    Cutting-edge Tile Installations, LLC
This last year, several big holes were made in my 110 year old homes stone foundation by rodents displaced by the Cornell Maplewood. I spent months trying to find a stone mason to fix it with a success until finally in December I found Cutting Edge Tile. They do Stone and concrete work in addition to brick and tile and their work is excellent and professional work from first contact to billing. It was a pleasure to deal with everyone who worked for the company, including Bill, the contractor, Angela in the office and Jake, the stone mason. Jake listen to all my concerns and a very skilled job in place with difficult access. He also cleaned up All the broken stone and concrete that the rodents had broken up. I couldnt have asked for the job to be done better. I wholeheartedly recommend them to everyone.

    Chimney Solutions
From the estimating and planning through the take-down of the old chimney and rebuild of the new one, the project was nicely done. I felt I was in the loop on the choice of materials and planning for the rebuild. The crew worked around gardens and landscaping that would have been damaged if they had not taken extra care. They also took care to protect sky lights and a recently painted outdoor deck from any falling construction debris. They were punctual, kept the work area clean and well organized at the end of a work day.

    Crown Construction Inc
It started 5/7/18 and is not done yet. There have been numerous mistakes in ordering material, very poor quality work, damage to our lawn and landscaping, work site not cleaned up, no follow through in resolving problems. Communication is non-existent. Nothing has gone the way we were told it would. This project has been a disaster.

    Chimney Solutions
We had a water leak due to crumbling mortar, no cap, and bad flashing. We also have a gas boiler, and the existing clay liner could not handle the moisture produced by the gas. To fix all these issues, I had originally planned to have multiple companies do the work (all of them wanted to charge us about 4 times as much as Chimney Solutions and take at least 4 months to do the work). In the end, I felt Chimney Solutions was the best equipped for the job, and they offered the most competitive and complete bid, so we went with them. We scheduled the work about 3 weeks out from the initial estimate, and 4 workers completed the job in 2 days. Overall, we are happy with the service, the work, and the value, and would choose Chimney Solutions again.

    Prime Time Painting & Drywall
Despite the fact that the house they were working on was built in the early 1800's and so could be assumed to have lead paint, the painters working for Prime Time Painting & Drywall took no initial precautions to minimize the release of lead into the environment. They began by pressure washing the entire exterior of the house (a practice classified as "not recommended" by the Tompkins County Health Department), which dislodged loose paint and propelled the paint chips onto adjacent properties. Concerned by all the paint chips left lying on the ground in public areas bordering the work site, I tested some of them for lead using 3M LeadCheck test swabs. All turned bright pink, indicating that lead was present in the paint. I showed one of the painters what I had found, but while he admitted to their pressure washing causing the problem, he refused to make any effort to clean up the mess until several days later (at which point the lead paint chips had been lying on the ground for a full week). The cleanup effort, when at last it was made, consisted of removing a small amount of soil from around the house that had been covered in paint chips. However, paint chips left in other areas beyond the borders of the property they were repainting (the pressure washing propelled paint chips quite far from the house itself, onto adjacent properties) were left where they landed, and in subsequent days the additional removal of old paint from the house by scraping left still more lead paint chips on the ground, both on and beyond the property where Prime Time Painting & Drywall was working. Ultimately, I spent several hours picking up hundreds of lead paint chips myself, and countless more remain on the ground where they fell. Obviously it should not fall on a concerned neighbor to clean up the toxic debris left behind by an irresponsible contractor, but this is exactly what happened. Prime Time Painting & Drywall took little interest in remediating the health and environmental hazard they created through their unsafe removal of old lead paint (the #1 cause of lead poisoning in American children). Anyone living in a pre-1978 home, or who simply would like to see a safe and clean work site maintained on their property, should look elsewhere for a painting contractor.

    KC Construction
Everything went fairly smoothly. They did a nice job with the siding. I would have liked them to be a bit more thorough picking up after themselves every day (i.e., I found several nails and/or other sharp objects around the house which is problematic when you have pets). In the end I felt like they were rushing to finish because the job ended up taking longer than expected due to the lead crew member being consistently pulled off the job to cover for another employee with an absenteeism issue.

    Duthie Painting Co
I felt the price was way out of line, perhaps because they really didn't want to do the work. Also, the idea that they might do the work in 2017, but might wait until 2018, seemed far too vague. I got another contractor.

    Genson Overhead Door, Inc.
They came out for the quote, arrived on time and gave honest advice (we were thinking of combining the 2 doors into one, but after they checked the area, recommended against it for structural reasons). They scheduled us with-in the time frame we requested and were prompt, efficient, and cleaned up after themselves when done, taking away the old doors and old opener as well. Additional info: 11 months into their 1 year warranty, one of the garage door tracks started sparking when opening/closing it. They promptly answered our email and sent a workman to check it out. He admitted they've never seen this problem before (he had checked with some more experienced colleagues who also never heard of it happening). He checked out everything he could think of and suggested having the wiring checked out. We were able to have that done the same night and all was fine there. The next morning, Genson workmen came out again (fortunately the electrician was also here) and they worked together to discover the problem. Over the 11 months, one of the lag bolts holding up the brackets for the opener, from normal vibrations, had clipped a power line for the lights. There was no way to know the power line was there at installation as it was 2"+ up from the end of the joist, behind the sheetrock ceiling. Genson took responsibility and covered the repair. Very professional, apologized for having to open up the ceiling and the mess that was made in doing so, but they were very careful when removing the sheetrock so that they were able to reuse the same pieces when they were all done. They cleaned up and everything works fine again. Definitely recommend this company to any who need these services!

    Gary's Painting and Small Repairs
Gary is always very professional in his work. He is prompt, courteous, and efficient. Gary is able to go above and beyond most other painters because he has the skills to perform minor repairs in the walls or woodwork himself, so is able to offer a more finished product. I've found his rates very reasonable and often favorable to others. His rates are why I and my colleagues and friends initially hire him, but the quality of his work and his easy personality keep us going back to use him routinely.

    Horizon Contracting Co
From beginning to end Mike and his team performed way beyond expectations. From initial estimate to final touch up and clean up their attention to detail was professional and courteous. They went out of their way to make sure that all of my upgrading needs were met. I love the way my home looks now. I recommend them highly and without any reservations whatsoever.
