I needed to replaced my mailbox today. They asked the right questions and presented the options. I went home, checked the situation and returned to purchase what I needed.  Problem solved.

This was our first adventure in hiring landscapers and we were very pleased. I had purchased a number of plants from Greenscapes the prior summer and all grew beautifully, so we were confident in the quality of their plants. Pat came to the house and talked with us about what we were hoping to do, took measurements, and a short while later we had our estimate. When we decided to cut the scope of the project in half they were very accomodating and understanding of our budget. When it came time for the work to be done, they handled contacting Dig Safe, and in one day most of the work was complete. I was especially pleased that after the first day they set the suggested plants in place but did not put them in the ground. Instead, we had an opportunity to review the placement and even choose from a selection of additional plants that they left onsite, then returned the next day to install them. When we returned the second day, all the work was complete and looking beautiful and they cleaned up after themselves completely - no trace was left. The grass has now grown in and we love the new look of our front lawn. Initially, the price was much more expensive than we expected, but that was primarily due to us never having used landscaping services before. The final price was right in line with the estimate and we feel we got a very fair deal for the work that was done. Even though we were a small job, when we visited the nursury to discuss plants Pat personally walked us around and took as much time with us as we needed. And again, their willingness to make a second trip to our property just so we could preview the plantings before they were in the ground was very impressive. When we are ready to move on to the next area that needs attention, we will be calling them again!

There is one person in particular, Judy, is very personable and helpful.  I try to go when Judy is there because she is outstanding.  It is a locally owned business so the prices aren’t as competitive as Lowe’s, but their prices are fair and it is easier to go there.

The initial phase of the effort went very well.  The owner (Tony) came by, took measurements and pictures, later returning with a nice photo-shopped example of what the property would look like after the work was done.  He made great suggestions for plants and cover that would be low maintenance and were very attractive.  There was a little sticker shock, but we decided to go for it. That part went very well. When the day came, a fleet of workers arrived and set to the task with gusto.  They took care to not damage the existing lawn by laying down wood and tarps to protect the grass.  All the work was done in a timely manner, and the end result was a near perfect match for what the original proposal photo said it would have looked like. That part went very well.  If the story ended here, they'd be getting A's for every aspect of the work. Within a couple of weeks, we discovered that our basement now would have gallons of water pouring in from one of the basement windows when it would rain!  For the entire life of the house, neither us or the prior owners had ever had a problem with water.  It turns out the new terracing of the land cause water from the roof to now flow directly to the basement window well, where it would fill up like a swimming pool. Getting Tony to now come and visit was like pulling teeth.  When he did show up, he was stand-offish and defensive, taking absolutely no accountability for the problem.  We'd go around and around, agreeing that the terrain was causing the water to flow as it did, but he would not budge in his position.  If I wanted this problem fixed, I'd have to pay for it.  Getting sick of the problem and just wanting a solution, I agreed to the additional $300.  Once he got me that far, he re-thought the number and jacked it up to $350.  Cash.  He did not want a paper trail for any of the money spent, either for the original project or for the correction. The story's not over. The river-stone cover that he promised would never need attention is COVERED with weeds.  So much so, I can't see the stones for large sections of this.  Basically, he lied.  I now have to spend more time weeding this than I did before. Bottom line?  If he'd have assumed responsibility for the problem his design, proposal, and execution had created, I'd be one of this biggest fans.  Because of his argumentative posturing and refusal to acknowledge in any way the problem, I'll never use him again.

About three days later the service department called, my mower was fixed.  Serviceman says we had a lot of trouble diagnosing the problem.  He said he took two hours of labor charges off the bill. Total bill came to over $585.  I asked him what they had to do and was given a list of things they had to change, none of which were the electric clutch that originally they told me was the problem.  I never received a phone call from them that other things were wrong and it was going to be more expensive then what I was originally told. The lawn mower worked the first time I tried it, but the second time I used it the same problem with the PTO returned.  I thought maybe it was a fluke but when I used the mower the third time it failed again, this time it eventually wouldn't work at all.  I called Cazenovia and they came back and picked up the mower again.  I told them three times that I want to know exactly what was wrong before they started working on my mower.  Two days later they tried to reach me late in the afternoon but I was unavailable because of a family emergency.  My daughter left a message that I would call them the following morning.  Before I could call them the next day they called me to say my tractor was fixed.  I never got a call telling me what had to be done in spite of saying I wanted to be told what was wrong before they started the work. They replaced the electric clutch for the PTO.  I was told they would not charge me the transportation fee and they would only charge me for one hour of labor.  The bill was another $325, making a total of over $900 for a tractor that is over 20 years old.  The tractor is working fine now but it cost me $900 and I have no idea how much of the original bill was really necessary.  They replaced a drive belt saying it was showing signs of wear, I have a replacement at home that I could have used when it broke but they saw fit to change it for me.  The way I was treated reminded me of car dealers 30 years ago.  Just change it and tell the customer about it later.  No communication with the customer.
