Driveway Pavers reviews in Hilton

    North Coast Property Maintenance
We have a 950-foot paved driveway. Since we're up near the Lake in Hilton, we get a LOT of snow drift as well as snow fall, and today it was particularly bad due to a snow storm. I called six plow services on Angies List, most of who didn't respond to my calls, said they didn't plow in Hilton, or wouldn't be able to get to me by the end of the day.
North Coast Sealing responded VERY promptly to my email and voicemail -- in just three minutes!! -- and was at my house within half an hour. He did a great, quick job plowing, including clearing snow away from our garage so I could get out, and was very friendly and professional. I definitely recommend them and would use this company again.

    Magic Seal LLC
The short review: Magic Seal did an excellent job prepping our very poor-condition gravel driveway and then paving it with asphalt, and we are very happy with the resulting driveway. However, I was deeply frustrated for two months beforehand at their lack of communication and commitment to a firm project date.
The long review: Our property has a 950-foot-long driveway, which has been gravel since the house was built in 1998. Even though we had a load of fresh gravel laid almost every year, the winds from nearby Lake Ontario and the recent winters had seriously damaged the driveway, leaving it with ruts and potholes almost the whole length.
In late July, my husband and I decided that we really needed to spend the money and get the driveway paved since fresh gravel was being eroded almost instantly. After researching on Angies List, I contacted Magic Seal and asked for an estimate. We promptly were visited by a representative who explained the options to us in a friendly, professional manner. We immediately had a good feeling about the company and asked for a contract with the written estimates for paving half of the driveway versus the whole driveway.
I promptly received a contract, but my name was misspelled and the estimates were incorrectly tallied *together* rather than separate (thus doubling the cost of the project). I called the office, was fairly quickly able to confirm that the numbers shouldn't be tallied, and corrected the incorrect information. After our August vacation roughly a week later, I received the corrected contact and spent about a week conferring with our financial advisor, then signed and mailed in the contract the first week of September.
    And waited.
No response from the company, which really surprised me. Any other contractor we've hired has immediately set a date for the work, if not able to begin immediately.
After a week, I called the office and asked if they had received my contract? "Yes, it's on the desk with all the other contracts, we'll get back to you," was the response. Okay, I thought, they've got lots of work in the early fall, glad to hear a local company is doing well, they should get back to me in a few days with a date, I thought.
    And waited.
After another week, I called again, got the same response. I politely emphasized that I very much wanted to get the driveway paved before winter, and if the company was too busy to do the work I understood and would simply go elsewhere. No, no, we definitely will get to you before winter, and we'll get back to you,  I was told.
This happened week after week, throughout September and into October, and I was getting deeply frustrated. I tried confirming at least "Can you estimate you'll do the work in late October, early November, some idea of when it will happen?" Again and again, the polite response "We'll get back to you" with no further specifics.
Part of the reason for my deep frustration is that about half of my driveway has shared access with two of my neighbors, and I very much wanted to give them a heads up when the work happened so they would be prepared for the lack of access for a couple days afterward. I was also starting to really wonder whether the company was just so busy with other projects that mine would be ignored for so long that winter would come before it could be completed.
I almost decided numerous times just to hire a different company, but I had signed a contract AND Magic Seal was very, very well rated on Angies List.
Suddenly, one morning during the last week of October, I discovered a stranger walking my property... who turned out to be a power company rep. I learned he was flagging the buried gas, cable, and telephone lines so the pavers wouldn't damage them when they began their work.
WOW! I was very relieved to learn -- albeit indirectly -- that the work was imminent, although it bothered me that no one from Magic Seal (or RG&E) had bothered to call me to make an appointment or at least alert me this would happen.
No further communication for yet another week, which made me concerned again that this project was being backburnered, and then suddenly a phone call one afternoon from Magic Seal saying they would like to come prep the driveway *the next day*. Yes!!!!!!! I ran to alert my neighbors about the imminent work.
The crew started promptly at 8 a.m. and quickly and thoroughly dug up, graded, and prepped the damaged gravel, then returned the next day and finished paving the whole length within half a day.
I was very impressed that the crew were polite, professional, and did not leave any refuse behind on the property, which has sometimes happened with other contractors. The resulting pavement is even and of high quality the entire length of the driveway, even including in the often-swampy lower edge of the cul-de-sac by the house.
I completely agree with the high marks on Angies List for quality and professionalism. I am still quite unhappy with their lack of effective communication, but I do feel they did great work and would cautiously recommend them to others. I imagine that a potential customer contacting Magic Seal at a less-busy time of year would get a much faster response and firm date for work.

    R&W Paving
Dealing with R&W Paving was an enjoyable experience.  Kevin Bucklin (Engineering & Design) provided me with estimates for several different alternatives.  They were a bit delayed due to inclement weather, but when they said they would be their to pave, they were there on time.  I was especially impressed by the professionalism exemplified by the R&W employees who paved the driveway.  Each had their own particular responsibility and went about completing the paving without any delay.  They were respectful of the property and left the job site in excellent condition.  I would definitely recommend this business to others in my area.

    R&W Paving
The job went perfectly! They came when promised and all of the workers who were at my house for this job were polite and professional. When the job was finished, Kevin went over the warranty and "care" recommendations with me. The workers cleaned up when the job was completed and the driveway looks beautiful! It is such a pleasure to deal with a company and individuals who are dependable, cooperative, courteous and reasonably priced. Thank you do much, Kevin and R & W. What a great company to deal with! Manel Paving
I obtained a nice professional estimate from Chuck Manel on Nov. 22, 2011 but decided to hold off due to the lateness in the season and because I needed to get a tree removed first.  The next summer after the tree was removed etc, i contacted Chuck on Aug. 1, 2012 to let him know I would like him to do the work.  He said he would stop by and give me a re-quote.  This never happened and I called back on Aug. 29th and left a message.  I never received a return call.  Two weeks later I tried again with the same result.  I tried a final time two weeks after that and still no reply even though I related the history to the person taking the message.  I eventually went with someone else because I never got a response from Chuck Manel so I had no idea if he was ever going to do the work and it was now late October.  I was happy with the quote and background information but his late of response or follow-up makes me question his professionalism.

    CHRIST PAVING CORP
I called to get an estimate and Jim Christ contacted me to view the site.  I was not available so he suggested that I mark off the area and he came to view it and left me a written estimate.  The price was a little higher than the average estimates but I was impressed with his speed and willingness to work with me.  I returned the proposal (signed) to authorize the work and met Bob Christ, who was going to do the actual work.  They contacted me and scheduled the work within 10 days as they promised.  They showed up exactly when they said and completed the work within the same morning.  The left the site in very good condition and even went so far as to sweep the street of any gravel or dirt.  The workers were conscientious, courteous and did an excellent job.  Even though I paid a little more than I hoped I am glad I went with them because I got what I paid for.

    North Coast Property Maintenance
Very good experience setting the appointment. I have a show car that I need to get out of the garage on the weekend. The office scheduler worked hard to make sure they came out on a day that would allow me enough time to drive on the driveway before the weekend. She called a couple of times before they could schedule it around my schedule. Very patient and courteous.

    AMERICAN SEAL COATING
They are extremely helpful, professional, high quality and very fairly priced. We recommend them extremely highly. They appraised our project at the appointed time, gave us an estimate and made an appointment that was most convenient for us. They advised us as to when we could use the driveway, for first walking on, and when we could move our vehicles back on to the surface. The finished job was exceptional.

    Cardwell Construction Co Inc
The work was excellent as it looks really nice. They knew what they were doing and I am happy with them as well. They were really hard workers and worked hard over several days. They were on schedule every day and finished the job when they originally said they would. The people I talked with at the company were very helpful and polite also. They were all very informative.

    Cardwell Construction Co Inc
I had three estimates that were almost identical and were presumably based on square footage and the cost of asphalt. Two of the companies (including Cardwell) were selected based on longevity and the BBB report;the third was in-town. The repair/resurfacing went according to our agreement and was accomplished efficiently and quickly with no unforeseen complications. After the fact, a neighbor who works on street design for the City of Rochester, inspected the job and inquired if a "water test" for identifying low spots had been done (answer: No) and commented that there was at least one small area that was not compressed/rolled as well as possible, possibly due to the asphalt having cooled prior to rolling.
