    RELIABLE APPLIANCE
    After the horrendous experience I had with Planet Appliance, I tried this one because it was the only other recommendation that I received from Angie's list. It turned out to be the same company under another name. Paul was asked to call me and make an appointment. He ignored the request. I found out that was what he decided to do by accident when I called the office back after they called him to find out why he hadn't called me. I have a professional appliance repair service coming tomorrow. I will not pay $600.00 to a repair service that has abusive, disrespectful repairmen. I assume that's the price with this service because that's what the other service charges. I don't know because Paul was too busy being nasty and angry for no reason instead of telling me the price. Thus, I'll never use this service. And I don't recommend them.

    Steve's Appliance Repair
    Steve came the day after I called him.  He immediately diagnosed the problem.  The door flap on one of the two French doors become dislodged and prevented the door from closing.  He removed the door flap, reset it properly in the brackets, and reinstalled it.  Now the door closes properly.  He charged me only the service call fee, which he told me in advance.  I'm sure if I called Sears, where I originally bought the refrigerator, they would have charged much more.

    Steve was very responsive, called me back on a Sunday shortly after I left a message. He was reliable, came just a few hours later to assess our fridge. He was honest, informed us that we were in need of a new refrigerator, and explained why. We were very grateful for his responsiveness, reliability, and honesty, and will plan to use him again in the future when in need of appliance repair.

    Scheduling a visit the first time for them to diagnose the problem was an all-day affair. It then took a month for the part to come in. Since then we've tried three times to schedule an appointment for them to repair it. They only make repair visits Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, so you have to have one of those free. Once you schedule a date, their scheduling system is to robo-call you the night before you schedule a visit and tell you the 3-hour window they think they'll be able to visit you. This robo-system doesn't work. Both times we actually got to the point of scheduling an appointment, I never received a call (or an email). They have various stories - we can't store multiple phone numbers in our system and the landlord's is the only number we have; the robo-call hangs up if it doesn't get a person (what on earth for? Leave me a voicemail!), whatever. I called both times in the morning to confirm the time and neither time did the window happen to coincide with the time I'd been able to arrange to be off work. Spoke to a supervisor by phone but all she could offer was the work "processes" they have in place. Well, those are clearly for their benefit, not customers'. We could play this game forever but I'm moving on to another vendor.

    Our Maytag gas dryer (which came with the house when we moved in) stopped working.  It is approximately 10 yrs old and the machine was fine, it was turning, timers etc. were all working.


    The heat was not coming on.  Did research online and decided to call someone.  Checked online reviews and Steve came up to the top.


    Called him and he said that he could come right away (a couple of hours) and we said fine.


    While here, he gave various other suggestions on our Sub Zero fridge (which he does not service) and our GE washer.  Gave us a few tips on keeping the dryer vent clean - which it was.


    He quoted a price and said that it would have to be in cash.  Had to go look for the heating element (to fire up the gas in the dryer) in his truck as he does not overstock them.


    He came back in, plugged the heating element in, bolted all the covers and door and the dryer started to work again.


    This repair was done on Monday and today is Wednesday and we got a call this morning from Steve asking as to how the machine was working.  Told him that we used it once after it was fixed and everything seems to be fine.


    Steve mentioned that he would come back and fix if there are any other trouble relating to this part for free, within the next 3 months or so.


    We wish that all vendors were this honest with pricing and this punctual with work.  Yes, most online research shows that other vendors may have charged the same amount that we paid Steve, but we would work with Steve anytime.  We would strongly recommend him over and above anyone else.

    Another otherwise honorable repair service we used in the past was nice enough, but they did not answer their telephone for several days, while all my food in my fridge began to suddenly spoil, following their repair, 2x, on our fridge ran into a fluke snag, and I had already paid $ to them, which I could not afford to pay again to an additional firm.  My emergency voice mail messages to this repair service went unanswered and caused me tremendous agita.  That situation has left me cautious.  I was glad to hear that Steve repairs items around the clock when emergencies occur, and previous reviewers confirmed that Steve answers his telephone on weekends too.  That was now very important to me.

    On Wednesday afternoon, our oven's heating element had a very serious problem.  I called Steve and he said that he could probably help, that he would come the following day within a 2-hr window of time, and that he'd call to confirm prior to his arrival. 

    On Thursday, to my surprise, he not only confirmed, but he came early.  Steve quickly accessed the situation, and said that he would return the following day to install the repaired item with a new part, hassle free.  I did not have to search for this part myself.  Good.

    On Friday, Steve again arrived super punctually, installed the new oven part correctly, and tested it to make sure that it really worked. 

    But I waited until Saturday to write the review, because I had a lot of cooking to do for a large dinner.  Originally I had been greatly concerned that we would have to cook the food elsewhere and be very inconvenienced.  But thanks to Steve's on-the-ball tenacity, everything was smoothly corrected within one day of his arrival, which was a huge and very welcomed relief! 

    While Steve was at our home on Thursday, based on other reviews that I read, we also asked him to look at our clothes dryer because it was not appropriately drying our clothes for a very long time already, and it had begun squeaking too.  Oy! 

    On Friday, Steve additionally fixed the heating element of the clothes dryer and cleaned out the lint tube.  I am excited and eager to have our clothes dryer successfully dry items again in a normal span of time, instead of the unbelievable 2-4 hours that it regularly used to take. 

    Steve gave us more advice about using our clothes dryer in the most effective manner.

    The plumber, Jayson, came on time and gave us a price, which we accepted.  He performed the requested tasks.  The work was clean and professional.  After he left, we did notice that he used the drain cap and rim from the old faucet instead of replacing it with the ones that came with the new faucet, which we had purchased at Home Depot.  We called the office, and he called us back early the next day.  He said that the box containing the new faucet did not contain a new drain, as it should have.  He acknowledged he should have mentioned this and apologized.  We told him that the old drain rim was partly corroded, so we wanted this replaced.  He came back to our house a bit later with a new drain cap and rim from the same manufacturer as the new faucet (Kohler) and replaced the old one.  We were very pleased with their responsiveness to this issue and overall very pleased with the work.  We would definitely use them again.
