AXterior SolutionsI couldn't be more pleased with Xterior. I am thrilled that I found them on Angie's list. They were communicative, professional, hard-working, fast, efficient, and cleaned up beautifully. I recommend them 100%! This is one of the very best companies I have ever worked with, from the owner through the building crew. A+++- ronnie h.

AGKontos Inc. Roofing SpecialistsMy husband and I needed to get our fascia board fixed, along with a new roof. We had Brian come out to give us a quote and he was so personal, yet professional, he really gave us a good vibe! Our financial situation has been difficult due to COVID, but Brian and the rest of the GKontos team were extremely patient with us and willing to work with us any way they could! The available financing options they have made it easier for my husband and I to budget out the expenses. The responsiveness and ability to make us feel cared about over the phone and in person, was a huge reason why we decided to go with GKontos for a fascia board (and roof down the line!). We are extremely grateful for the quality of their workmanship, and the quality of every one who works for GKontos. We are very much looking forward to getting our roof done by them in the future. Do not hesitate to go with GKontos. They are worth every penny!!- Marisa I.

ASuperior Exteriors of the Finger LakesSuperior Exteriors saved my front porch. My house came with a front porch addition that had started to sag away from the house. I asked Kim if it could be saved. Her crew dug out all of the supports, replaced them and shored up the porch against the house again. Superior also replaced my roof. It required a complete tear off with 3 layers of shingles on it. I was happy with the price for the amount of work involved. Plus pleasantly surprised at how well the crew cleaned up after they where done. I originally contacted Superior because it is a woman owned business. I was pleasantly surprised in her competitive pricing backed up by excellent work. Whenever I need work done to my house inside or out Superior is who I call.- Suzette G.

ANU-Life ResourcesJeff was invaluable in helping to assess a mold issue on a property that we were trying to purchase. He quickly returned phone calls, answered questions in an understandable way and gave direct clear advice. I highly recommend Jeff and his company!- noel h.

AExplicit ExteriorsExplicit Exteriors is without doubt a first-rate company. Jason and his team have seamlessly completed 3 jobs for us, both interior and exterior. They pay attention to detail, work cleanly, complete jobs in a timely manor, and are trustworthy. What sets them even further above most other topnotch contractors is that they are creative thinkers. One such challenge was finding the right design for a partial roof over our front door, one that blended with the existing structure. The design was perfect and looks as though it was part of the original design. I'm very picky and would not hesitate to recommend Explicit Exteriors for any of your upcoming jobs.- Erica D.

APerfect ExteriorsIt is obvious that efficiency, quality, and rapport are important to the Perfect Exteriors family. Every person we came into contact with, whether directly from the company or a company contracted from outside, was respectful and dedicated to delivering the highest quality materials and service. The owner, Ed, took the time to drive an hour and a half to meet with us and answer any questions we had about the process before we committed. After receiving quotes from different companies, Perfect Exteriors had the best pricing. But it wasn’t only the pricing that made us choose Perfect Exteriors, it was the knowledge, experience and respect that they showed right from the beginning. Ed kept in touch throughout the entire project, proving his care and dedication to his customers. While the work was being done, Milton and his crew were absolutely amazing!! They were consistently prompt every morning and worked hard all throughout the day. They left their workspace clean at the end of every shift, which was important since we have a puppy and 2 young children running around. Throughout their entire time here, they, too, were courteous, kind hearted, and respectful. The true star of the show is the project manager, Steve. He is a man of many talents who repeatedly saved the day! When something unexpected would come up and seemed overwhelming, he was able to quickly assess the problem and deliver a solution that worked! He takes action and gets the job done, all while being respectful and kind (but firm!). I am so happy that Steve was part of this process! Overall, I can not recommend this company enough!! We will definitely be using Perfect Exteriors again for any future projects! Thank you, team!- Aeowyn B.

AMack Of All TradesI had a lot of various tasks addressed in my 1850's home in Victor. Indoor painting, deck staining, curtain rods hung, replacement of door hardware, refinishing an old closet, gutter work on small roof, replacement of dryer vent , odds and ends repair in the home. They replaced my water heater as well. I had several different handy men and all were very polite and responsive. They were good when I gave suggestions or asked for attention to detail. Very pleased overall. More work planned in the Spring!- Terri H.

AMy initial contact with Leelands was 10 years ago. I really admired the work they had done on my neighbors house. I just couldn't afford slate repair or replacement at the time. The employees were always courteous and patient. Fast forward to May 2018, I had exhausted all the patching my roof could take. I contacted Leelands, Donna promptly scheduled Luke to come out for an estimate. Luke was on time and provided honest feedback. I recieved a Photo Report, Field Condition Report and Proposals a few weeks later. It took me a few more months to decide how to proceed. In October, Leelands sent Gabriel and Miguel to make the repairs. They were prompt, courteous and worked diligently to finish the job. After a rainy 2018, my roof is still leak free.

AI made the phone call on Monday afternoon. A very professional young man was at my home Wednesday morning, and by the mid afternoon it was all fixed and looked like nothing had ever happened to it. I told him he was the answer to an old lady's prayer! The only drawback was the price, but in these times everybody needs to make enough to take care of themselves and their families, and he did spend quite a bit of time on it.

DWe used The Powell Company for several jobs on our house near Oneonta before realizing our mistake, so we have the experience to warn others. First, this company makes some very stupid “mistakes”. For example, they put a downspout directly over an electrical outlet, and they replaced items on our house that were NOT the rotted ones. We had to call them back to move the downspout so it wouldn’t block the outlet, and to replace the correct items; they got angry and blamed US for cutting into their profit because doing the work the right way would cost them money. Second, they cut corners or use cheap materials despite the impact on their customers; for example, they used plastic gutter brackets that broke in a season instead of metal ones that hold up year after year. Third, good builders try to think ahead and account for contingencies in a project in advance and fairly, but in our experience Powell didn’t use its imagination because it just put all risk of an unknown or cost overrun on us. This can result in large avoidable and unnecessary costs for the homeowner. Third, being lawyers, we recognized that proposals Powell gave us, which become binding contracts once signed, were, in our opinion, unfairly one-sided — they protected only Powell in any contingency that arose during their work and if any litigation came from the contract. We tried to change this to protect ourselves too, but could not. We have found other builders who are fairer from the get-go, or who will promptly agree to changes to lopsided proposals, and such an attitude speaks volumes. Last, but certainly not least, we foolishly didn’t get other bids for a few jobs that Powell did. When we wised up, we found that Powell cost 2-4 times what other builders did for the jobs we were doing. Bottom line — we caution anyone considering using The Powell Company.

FFirst I want to say I had been a QA/QC manager for 3 years at a major company who rebuilt trains & warned all the contractors at time of bid/estimate if you can't handle that DO NOT BID! I am willing to pay more for a quality job. We supplied @$500 in material our selves. The first day Roger Pike & his father Wendell Pike showed up 3 days late, they were using a saw-saw instead of circular saw to cut 2x4's, 2x6's, etc. When I questioned this Wendell & Roger said some bull about the only circular saw being on a different job crew. I said they 'only cost @ $40.00!. They said only having one keeps it (the saw) from getting stolen. I knew then we were in trouble. Many broken promises & not finishing a job. The mickey mouse duo were not even qualified to be amateurs in home improvements. They cut corners every place they could. I actually fell thru the brand new front porch steps they built less than 2 weeks old. I was told 'Not to jump up & down on steps'. Your kidding. I was hurt pretty bad. The 2-3 week total time for completion became 8 weeks before I said no more. A BRAND NEW $200.00 window installed in pump house has paint on it's sides from being ripped out from another location! Rear porch roof was hacked at new roof we had put on the house @3-4 years ago & left open to let the rain come in & damage ceiling in house. Wendell screamed 'No way' it is his fault, 'You are making things up!' Repeatedly did not show up as promised, claimed car 'won't start' & yet the crews said different. Their crews were just as bad on knowing what they were doing. Both Roger & Wendell kept trying to get more money. When we gave in we never saw Roger again or talked to him on phone. They frequently blocked us so we couldn't ask why they didn't show up as promised. We verified this by calling on a different phone & he answered., shocked it was us. They also had no address on the contracts, they wanted cash only, I paid via check which they immediately went to my bank & cashed the checks. Assets seem well hidden. Other contractors asked to bid on finishing the porch roof refused unless they ripped out his out of square & extremely unsafe rafters & underlayment etc. They used dry wall screws to frame porch floor in areas! (They rust & would collapse). Wendell actually texted me & said: "If you know so much about contracting, why didn't you do it yourself?" None of the 3 jobs are complete at all. I have gone to the police it is that bad. See warning on web by someone else AFTER we hired them . Google: roger pike bad contractor or Wendell Pike They seem to have a habit of excuses & not finishing any jobs. They also use different names:R7W Painting, R&W remodeling, R&W contracting, R&W Home Improvement, Roger's (this or that), or similiar names. They also needed to use our tools a lot, contract for 2x8 rafters & joists at 16 oc & install 2x6 on 24 oc with curved boards. I also have a yard of trash & full of construction debris I now will have to pay again for someone to remove. They also refuse to supply the name of their insurer that they showed me paperwork at bid to cover damage done to property. I have @400 pictures before, during, & after for proof of above and some text messages to/from them..
If you have already been 'got', contact the NY state police or reports@badbusiness-alerts.com
