Handyman reviews in Hamburg

    Fresh Start Property Improvement
Very well at first. Came to the house, looked the job over and gave me a verbal price. Said they would be back in a few days with a formal written quote. Never showed. After several calls were made, they finally showed up with their quote. I asked about other work at that time; they said they wanted the job, but never came back with a quote. Called two other handymen. Both wanted the job; both gave written quotes the very next day. Their quotes, unlike Fresh Start, were complete, including a list of materials to be used. They were both using the same materials and stain Fresh Start said they would be using. The other quotes said they would be putting on a minimum of two coats of stain; Fresh Starts quote merely said, re-stain gazebo. Both of the other quotes were over $1,000 less than Fresh Start.

    Richard Miller
Richard Miller is a rip off. He came and he was coughing, coughing and smoking. He came with another gentleman who was the subcontractor to do the work. I showed him what I need done. It wouldn't be more than a few hours labor. I said I might have more work down the road for you. I've been calling and calling and haven't heard from him. This was before Christmas. I called again in March and he won't answer my calls. I wanted the work done before the end of the year. He said he was too busy, The last time I spoke with him, I used another phone and he picked up my call. I want my money back. Very unprofessional.

    KRW Home Improvements
Ken agreed to do all the above for roughly $28,500, starting after Labor Day and he loosely estimated that he would be done well before the end of October, which would have been roughly two months time. Kdoes not work long hours. In fact, I don't believe I saw him before 10am or after 4pm on any day that he worked. This job, was supposed to be compliant with building codes in the town of Hamburg, and he assured me that he would have all of that taken care of because he's been doing this is whole life.
This was my mistake, I took the man at his word and his word is not worth the wind it rode on.
I constantly was getting the run around from Ken about how his workers were lazy and the one quit and that is why he was lagging behind. I ordered a hot tub to be delivered the first week of November when I would be on vacation because Ken assured me that he would have the whole thing at least enclosed (I actually got him to sign that he'd have it roofed and sided by Nov 28, 2015. He told me he'd have the windows installed so he needed the money to buy the windows. So I stupidly paid him before he got them and then he never appeared back at my house.
The patio and foundation was $12,500 and installed by Battista Concrete - who did a great job. I paid Ken the money to give to Battista. Then in December the owner of Battista Concrete came to my door asking if we've seen Ken Walsh, which we hadn't. As it turns out, he never paid that money to Battista and it was only like $9,500 for the work, so he basically over charged me and walked away with all of the money.
We also paid him $15,000 for labor and materials and since his work wasn't up to code, and he never actually did the application for permit, I was forced by the town of Hamburg to hire an architect (Jim Whittman - I recommend him highly) to come in and submit drawings (which cost an additional $1,500). Then I had to go and select a new contractor and I'm paying him as he goes (Frank Tye Construction - also highly recommended) but I've had to shell out an additional $35,000 to fix the mess that Ken Walsh left me with.
To say that my experience with Ken Walsh has left a bad taste in my mouth would be the understatement of the year. The man has no integrity and will flat out lie to your face and walk away with your money.

    RJ's Home Improvement
RJ's Home Improvement never came back to do the job as promised. Several attempts to contact the owner resulted in promises to re pay the deposit and excuses. Check is in the mail etc, etc. I wound up hiring another contractor. Still waiting for my money back.

    Randy McWethy's HandyMan Services
Weight of the snow from November storm on the power lines pulled a supporting bracket away from the house, taking a length of the vinyl siding with it. I cut the power to the line and put a makeshift support to hold the siding up until I could find someone to do the repair properly.
Before I found Randy on Angie's list, I had a hard time finding someone willing to take on the job. Randy appeared within an hour after I called him. He got the job done that afternoon on a wicked cold (10 degree) windy day. He secured the support bracket better than it was done originally. He replaced the damaged siding so you cannot tell that there was any damage.
Randy is good-humored and friendly. He was especially kind and patient with my elderly mother who owns the house that was damaged.
I definitely will call Randy again when we need some work done.

    A+ Contractors of WNY LLC
Everything went well. Communication could have been a little clearer. I wasn't exactly sure of payment methods etc, when payment was due. Overall they worked efficiently and was done in a matter of hours.

    DB Home Improvement LLC
He did a bunch of little jobs and then gave us the bill. He said he'd been a manager at Home Depot and his ratings are kind of mixed but he was local. We wanted someone nearby. The work he did was good but he made a lot of promises and kind of blew us off. The stuff he was supposed to have done before winter, he didn't do it. I didn't hear from him for weeks at a time. He builds tanning salons so he basically just wanted to fill in the gaps in his time with our work and I feel like I'm bugging him when I would call and say that I need some stuff done. I ended up not hearing from him anymore and we're left with the stuff not done.

    Everything Outdoors
Very well.  Jake from Everything Outdoors responded to my initial phone call after I found his company on Angie's List.  Came out promptly and gave me a quote.  Originally planned to do the work by the end of June and it ended up being delayed to 7/10 due to their workload.  Jake and a co-worker, Joe, came out and completed the work today and everything looks good.  I would use them again for other 'handyman' projects around my house.
