    A.M. Shield Waterproofing Corp
I had an excellent experience with AM Shield from start to finish. The cost estimate was competitive and the job was completed on time, on budget and according to the specifications. I highly recommend them for all waterproofing work.

Guy and his team, including foreman Al Hayes, were extremely good, the best contractor we have ever worked with. They came immediately, did an excellent job in a very complex cleaning job of a sewer backup in a basement filled with stuff. They did so efficiently, with complete consideration for us and for helping us sort what to keep and not. They removed truckloads of stuff. They left us with a remarkably clean basement with no residue from the back-up and fully sanitized. Their whole crew was courteous, pleasant, respectful and very careful of all our things. Guy was always part of the process and always immediately responsive to calls and questions. He went above and beyond, taking time to advise us on a variety of house issues, which was very helpful. They later came back and cleaned the attic, which had been filled with black dust from a roof installation, again as well as before. Al also repaired some tile work for us in his spare time at a very reasonable price. I believe the pricing for all of this was quite reasonable for the very fine work performed. I cannot recommend them more highly.

We had water damage to our basement carpets from a flooded window well.  The team dried the carpets, vacuumed, treated with anti-mold spray and  left them as good as new. They were reasonable, good to work with, and made sure we were happy with the service provided. Very happy and highly recommend them.

    DUR-ALL Environmental Inc
Richard was great.  He was extremely responsive throughout the entire process.  He was extremely patient explaining the work and getting us scheduled.  The work was completed in a professional manner in one day.  Very impressed with the entire process, and if we face other asbestos issues in the future, I would have no issues reaching out to Richard.

Junior responded promptly to my inquiry and was ready to do the job quickly at my convenience. He showed up on time and was prepared with all the required paper work (proposal, license and final bill all typed out). Not certain the exact number of feet to remove (we couldn't see all) he came prepared with bills for different lengths. Job originally was going to be $350 but the work turned out to be a little more than expected. The proposal made reference to needing air sample and filling fees to various agencies. I questioned this and he explained that jobs under 250' this wasn't needed. I asked that be clarified in the proposal and he said he would send me another letter indicating this. I didn't want to be at a closing to sell my house and have this come up as an issue. The work was neat, clean, timely so I have no regrets and whole heartedly recommend him.

I was worried that I have mold in the house and have used the mold deal on Angies List. Bob came 2 days later and inspected every little corner of the house and was permanently giving me advice on other aspect of the house (unrelated to mold) which will save me time and money in the future. I was worried that I had mold/water damage in one section of the living room and Bob explained that this was not mold and has to do with the paint/tape that was used which is showing signs now after few years. He found some mold area in the basement and just advised on replacing the ceiling tiles myself. I learned a lot from him during his visit (he really takes his time to ensure the job is done properly and doesn't just rush). I heard many bad stories from mold inspection companies where they just make you think you have mold and then charge you tons of $ to get it fixed. Bob does definitely not fit into that category. I only had few little areas of mold and he explained how I can just get it fixed myself. During the inspection he noticed that my dryer vent pipe was not closed properly (hidden in the ceiling) which was letting hot air stay within the house which is harmful - the collected lint in the ceiling could have eventually cause fire since I am using a gas dryer. Thank you Bob!

They came and did a survey of the premises looking for areas of mold. performed and air quality test.  After receiving the lab reports with the results we scheduled and appointment to perform the remediation. They were prompt, professional and polite.  Performed the remediation. Followed up with a visit a month later to check the status and make sure everything was ok.

    United Environmental Safety
We first contacted United Environmental Safety, run by Mark Katz, back in November 2011.  We hired United Environmental Safety to remove asbestos from our basement prior to move in, we stressed the need to have the work completed before our move in, particularly as we had a 4-month old baby.   The experience has been a nightmare since.
United Environmental Safety cancelled last minute twice to committed dates, they advised of new requirements just 3 days prior to a date they finally indicated they would make, and then did a 'bait and switch', redefining the contract terms upon arrival to do the job.
Some specifics:1.  We signed a contract with United Environmental Safety / Mark Katz based on UES/Mark's promise that he would have the work completed in December.  UES/ Mark Katz failed to meet that commitment, cancelling the December 15th date he indicated work would be performed and not providing an alternate date.  Mark chose not to have anyone from his firm come  to the property or he never talked to us directly (outside of a couple of emails early on).2.  We waited and UES/ Mark Katz finally provided a new date of January 4th.  I arranged for the day off from work.  Again, last minute UES / Mark Katz cancelled with little notice - I absorbed the cost of time taken off.  Again UES/ Mark Katz refused to provide a new date for work, this time now with our move in date around the corder.3.  Finally UES / Mark Katz scheduled a new date of January 21st.  This time, just 3-days prior to contract he indicated he would need an inspector there - it may be that regulations require it, however he should have provided earlier notice that he had such a need.  He provided an inspector's contact and told us (via his office administrator) to call - we did, and were shocked to find out how much this person wanted  - and with less than 3-days to the job it seemed we were being 'encouraged' to use their selected inspector.  We did some personal research and found that the inspector should be independent - we called other firms, independent from Mark, and found charges to be much less.  We called UES / Mark Katz to indicate we would be using another and it took some time before they acquiesced to using an independent inspector.4.  On the day of the appointment, we waited for over an hour (we received no call they were coming late) and were about to give up.  Finally two people came.  We explained we wanted the asbestos in two pipes removed, per a previous contractor - the asbestos to be removed was only in the corner sections - I explained that to the people who came.  Instead they discussed charging per linear foot of pipe and that they could not do just the two pipes.  They called Mark on the phone.   Then they offered to do part of it using a soaking method but advised that I "could not show the inspector" that part of the job.  I asked them to leave.
I sent a letter to United Environmental Safety requesting full refund of my monies given they failed to deliver on commitments on multiple occasions, redefined what is in the contract, and ultimately failed to deliver on their contractual obligation by providing zero service.  Mark Katz refused the request, offering a paltry insulting token sum of money, claiming that he had met his obligation despite doing no work.  Mark Katz ducked my calls, never returned any requests to speak, and never reached out to me. It would have been certainly better to hire someone who is has the decency to try to work out an issue fairly.
I have been reminded of two very important realities:
    1.  Do not hire a contractor until you check recommendations for that contracting firm.  I do not recommend United Environment Safety.  It was months of aggravation, rescheduling, and ultimately a fail in delivery service.
    2. Always consider the person you will be working with as well as the firm.
