Does a Painting Estimate Really Matter?

Precision Painting Plus of Long Island
Probably the only job I've had done in the last thirty years in which the price was fair, the work was done on schedule, and the results exceeded my expectations. These guys are fair, clean, professional, and on time. I'd recommend them to anyone at any time!

It went great! Jeff gave us a good estimate and Ashley came out to help with the color selections. They are both so nice and easy to deal with. The painters were very professional and did a wonderful job. Would definitely use them again!!

    Just Right Carpentry & Painting
I am very pleased with the work that Joe and Tom and the crew did. Joseph did the initial estimate and he was very knowledgeable about what needed to be done. I have an older house - a tudor - and they were able to brighten it up and do any outside repairs that were needed. On days when it rained, they called me and let me know ahead of time and told me when they would be back. They worked neatly and efficiently and were extremely responsive to any requests that I had. I would certainly use them again and will recommend them to my friends and relatives.

    Timeless Decks & Renovations
My basic wood deck was only a few years old and needed repair.  Per contractor John Mignone's request, I emailed him photos of the deck.  Then for a 100 dollar inspection fee he came to my home to see the situation in person and give me an assessment of the situation and provide me with an estimate.  The inspection fee was applied towards the cost of the job.  My deck had been installed with the wrong nails that were and inch too short and were rusting, resulting in popping up boards.  The work was done promptly, neatly and proficiently.

The work area was secured and cleaned up prior to leaving daily-I did not have to clean up the area myself.  Mr. Mignone gave me good advice about selecting the appropriate color for the protective deck paint, which is different from the previous color and now blends beautifully with all the elements of the house .  Mr. Mignone was very conscientious and did a great job supervising the work.  He has many years of experience in his field.  His worker was a quiet, pleasant and hard worker and did a great job.  The repaired deck now feels stable and looks terrific.  If you want to save time and some money, investigate the type of protective coating you want to use and sample possible colors before you begin the job.

If you prefer less maintenance for your wood deck use two coats of elastomeric deck & dock paint, which is available from an established paint store, which I am told should last between 5 to 7 years.  In order to access raised areas, the painter placed a plank across two strategically placed fold out ladders-he did not need to use a scaffold.  This was an important detail, since my municipality verified that a permit would have been required for the use of a scaffold and I would have had to ask the contractor to obtain a permit, which he would have been willing and able to do since he was licensed and insured at the time that I hired him-a detail that homeowners should always verify.

    CertaPro Painters of Nassau County
It looked good until this year because the paint has peeled off on a large spot on the 2nd floor of our house. We called Louis Federico and he said it's past the 2 year warranty and nothing lasts forever. We feel that's a poor response as its only 6 months past the warranty. He also said we would have to pay to repaint the bare spots. Also the paint seems very chalky and I now see quite a few more peeling spots. Also he said back in June the paint would be analyzed by a representative from Sherwin williams. It snow October. I just called Certa Pro and they said it will take ten more days. Hard to believe.

It didn't.  Would never use this guy or recommend him.  I couldn't vouch for his quality.  I'm sure he does fine work, but I question his ethics as he mentioned this about his big deal, that were clearly not on provided, even in the fine print section.  As it's up the provided to review his big deal, shame on the owner for not checking what was published, and then bait and switching to make more money.

Precision Painting Plus of Long Island
They did a project a year and a half ago and the project didn’t go well. I didn't get anywhere with them. I spoke with the GM of the company and he offered to redo the whole job.  In terms of a fair evaluation of their workmanship they volunteered to redo the work at no charge. We are in the midst of talking about a day to start the work sometime after Labor Day. The problem with the outside paint job is the prep work prior to painting was not properly done causing the paint to peel. They are going to going follow the recommendation of the manufacturer of the paint company to make sure it works out properly this time. The name Angie’s List was a more effective tool in getting the work done than anything else I could have ever done.

Precision Painting Plus of Long Island
Very impressed with Precision Painters from start to finish.
They arrived promptly for the in-house consultation.   They listened carefully to what we wanted to do and why we wanted to do it.  They were flexible with their schedules and patient with us (we were trying to manage a baby while walking through the projects).  They were transparent about pricing - labor + materials, and they said at that point they would share receipts.
On the day of the project, a project manager came with the painters.  He re-reviewed all of the projects we wanted to complete, with care.   During the day, he came by multiple times, spending a good amount of checking in on the quality of work and that his team knew what to do next.
The quality of the work was excellent - they took the time to carefully prime the whole area, they filled in nail holes with wood filler, and they did 2 coats where needed.
Precision Painting walked me through the receipts for items - not charging me for materials they didn't end up using or materials they used in limited fashion and that were able to be re-used for other jobs.
I would gladly hire Precision Painting again.

    KMR Painting & Decorating
Kevin and his whole team are incredibly hard working, and the quality of work was fantastic. we got many complements about the paint job. His price was very competitive compared to the other two top rated painters from Angie's List.

Our house was dark brown color to start with and I wanted it to be off-white. Kevin and his crew was deliberating at  taping, covering our plants and windows. They spend enough time to prep for the best results. It was the hottest week (close to 95 degrees) and his team worked 8-10 hours everyday. Everything was gathered and organized after their day of work. I was very impressed with their working ethics and nice attitudes.

I will recommend Kevin to anyone who needs a paint job done. He may not be the best sales person with fancy talking and big book of picture profiles, but he's just what we were looking for - good value and superior quality.

    Mastercraft Remodeling & Construction Specialists
In the spring of 2010 Carmine gave us an estimate for the renovation of a small bathroom. His estimate was slightly higher than that of another contractor. We ignored items Carmine itemized, like leveling the floor and ceiling, getting walls plumb, etc.  We assumed that those were self-understood and selected the other contractor due to his lower estimate and his membership to BBB, NARI, and NKBA. Big mistake! We ended up with many issues, some related exactly to the items Carmine listed (like horrible tile work), and, even worse, with a couple of leaks that contractor refused to even check on. This expensive lesson made us appreciate the value of a thorough estimate listing up in front issues that could be expected and, where possible, price associated.

Therefore in November 2010 we asked Carmine to provide us with an estimate for the master bathroom renovation. Carmine impressed us again with his thoroughness: he studied the plans with great care, realized that some sizes did not add up and had an associate check all measurements from the plans. He found the mistake and therefore the plan was corrected. We decided to hire Carmine for the master bathroom project. At the time he was working on a whole house remodeling project, but he expected to finish it in 1-2 months. However the home owner kept adding new items to the scope of that project and Carmine was not available to start our project until June 2011.  (During that time we kept in touch and, though we were disappointed about the delay, Carmine made sure that we understood that when he started a job he finished it to the home owner satisfaction, no matter how long it took.)

Before the work started Carmine met with us to discuss & nail down all details; e.g. when he heard that waterproofing was a major concern he proposed solutions and their additional price. The work on our master bathroom project was an example of how a perfect home renovation project should be run. Carmine took care of every detail (from materials to the sub schedules to days he spent setting the ceramic tiles veins patterns to make it look like marble). He checked with us before making any decision and made cut-outs from cardboard to help us visualize the result.

The bathroom came out beautiful and it made us trust Carmine with more work we wanted done: we decided to remodel all house interior. We also wanted some repairs done to the exterior, which turned into a whole house siding and painting job. The project was completed in early March 2012. During this time Carmine was as thorough as in the first day and he did not consider any minor detail as less important than major work items. He juggled jobs based on craftsmen schedules, such that  the project went on at all times. His main concern was for us to be happy with the results and he worked with us to insure that.

We were so happy with the result that we already discussed our next project, the kitchen renovation, in the near future.
