    Joseph Miele DDS
In February 2020 I went to Dr. Miele for an apicoectomy #3 which he performed with painless precision and expert skill. I greatly appreciated his warmth and detailed explanation of the procedure. He thoroughly prepared me for what to expect during and after the procedure. After the procedure he followed up with a phone call to see how I was doing. I feel he strongly cares for his patients and is an excellent surgeon. My only issue has to do more with his practice than with him as an oral surgeon. Before I decide on any elective medical/dental treatments I will ask the practice to contact my medical/dental insurance company to determine how much of the procedure will be covered by insurance and how much the patient will be responsible for, so I know exactly how expensive the elective surgery is going cost me. Dr. Miele assured me that his office would contact my insurance company and let me know the how much the apicoectomy would cost me. His office followed up with an email to me indicating that the estimated cost would be $419.20. I didn't pay close attention to the fact that this was an estimate and not the actual cost of the elective surgery. In my past experiences I have always received the actual patient cost of the elective surgery. So you can imagine my surprise when I received a subsequent bill from Dr. Miele's practice for an additional $370. The surgery went exactly as Dr. Miele had described it and there were no complications so I didn't understand why I received this additional bill. When I called Dr. Miele's practice, it was explained to me that my dental insurance only covered part of the bill and that the remaining balance after my payment of $419.20 was $370. Even if the initial quote I was given of the cost of the procedure was just an estimate, it seemed to be way off since the subsequent bill was almost as much as the initial estimate. So I called my dental insurance company to see how come there was such a discrepancy in the price of the estimate by Dr. Miele's practice and what the insurance actually paid for. Here I learned to my surprise that Dr. Miele's practice never submitted a "Predetermination" to my insurance company. This was a technical term that I was unfamiliar with, but it apparently means, that the medical/dental practice will contact the insurance company and describe the procedure to determine how much the insurance company will cover and what the Actual cost to the patient will be for that procedure. This is what I thought I had asked them to do. When I called Dr. Miele's office and inquired about how come they did not submit a "Predetermination" they (Nicole) responded and said that their practice does not do that unless specifically asked by the patient. Their normal process is to go online and view a "Fast Fact" listing from the insurance provider and determine from that what they think the insurance company will pay for and then they can provide an estimate to the patient of their cost. Apparently my dental insurance did not cover some parts of the procedure so that the estimate I was given was grossly inaccurate. This aspect of Dr. Miele's practice does not serve their patients well, as it leads to unexpected bills like the one I received. It also places too much responsibility on the patient to know the technical term of "Predetermination" when asking Dr. Miele's office to inform them how much the procedure will cost them before making a decision. If I understood the term "Predetermination" I would have specifically asked Dr. Miele's office to submit one to my insurance company before choosing to have the procedure done. I strongly believe it is a disservice to their customers to not make the effort to get a "Predetermination" by default when the customer is asking how much the procedure will cost. So I would caution you if you are trying to decide to have an elective surgery performed by Dr. Miele that you specifically request a "Predetermination" from his office so that you will not be surprised with any additional costs to your procedure.

    Melinda Blume DDS
I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Blume and her staff. Not only is she a great clinician, but a kind, solicitous, intelligent and funny person as well. I went into her office in horrific pain and quite nervous, in anticipation of the procedure and never having been to this office; but I actually left smiling and without any pain! (And my case was particularly difficult) I am exceedingly grateful. If you need endodontic services, this is definitely the place to go. And she takes insurances other practitioners refuse. This shows the high level of concern Dr. Blume has for her patients, which exceeds by far, the singular desire to just earn an income.

Dr. Michael Lee is one of the best dentists I have ever seen. He truly goes above and beyond than what is necessary. Goes Above and Beyond. One time, I had a bone spur coming out the side of my gums. Dr. Lee ground down the bone spur so it stopped hurting. He said it's not usual to do stitches but he did them nonetheless because he said it would make it heal faster. Extremely Gentle. I also like that Dr. Lee is extremely gentle and is always asking if something hurts or not. Not enough dentists do this. I felt so much more comfortable. I know Dr. Lee has been practicing for a while and really technical proficient. But, what makes me feel really comfortable with him is that he REALLY seems to care about you. He really wants to make you happy. This is unlike other many other dentists in which you're just another patient to come in and out the door. You can't go wrong with Dr. Lee.

    Neil S Stearns DMD
I have the highest anxiety when it comes to dental work. I have had terrible childhood experiences which have followed me into adulthood. I have been a patient of Dr. Stearns for almost 20 years. I have the most gentle cleanings and always leave feeling super refreshed afterwards. I have had to have a few cavities filled over the years and the experience is always pleasant. Dr. Stearns gives painless injections which is always a plus! I would never go to another dentist and dread the day that he retires. I refer him to all my friends and family.

Center for Smiles - Dr. Nicholas Rallis & Assoc.
I have never seen a practice MORE MONEY HUNGRY than this one! Vidya Sartorious, in charge of billing, had told me my insurance covers everything I would pay for the day of my visit and I ended up paying over $300 out of my pocket. I then called after I was only reimbursed for $75 by insurance. She said she never said that I would be entirely reimbursed and then hung up the phone on me. I asked for a cleaning, she then charged me for x-rays, a comprehensive oral exam, and a cleaning. She made it very clear several times that I would not have to pay a penny out of pocket, and that my insurance covers everything. She just wants your money. This practice does not care about the patient at all. She also tried to get me to have a jaw exam, which costs $500 which I didn't find out until after I was in the dentist's chair, about to begin. Do not waste your time here! Save your money and go to a better practice that is friendlier and will not lie to their patients. This is a reoccurring theme with this practice and there are many reviews about Vidya taking money from people.

    Shuyuan Yang DDS
Dr. Yang is a prosthodontist so why not get one of the most highly trained dental specialist for the same price as a regular dentist. I have been going to him for the past four years for routine dental checkups, had several fillings repaired and two caps installed. Totally satisfied with all of the work performed. His manner is always very professional, gentle mannered and caring for the patient. He never pushes a cosmetic or a dental procedure on you but calmly explains what he has found and what your alternatives including deferment would be. He does specialize in jaw pain, relief from sleep apnea and cosmetic work. However, he personally performs all services including your bi-annual teeth cleaning and polishing. Dr. Yang was a teaching professor at NYU's Dental College and many of the area's dentist were taught by him and still consult with him on their difficult cases. Chris his cheerful office admin assistant keeps you well informed of appointments and works closely with your insurance carrier letting you know what is covered and your share of any cost could be before work is performed. They are both very honest and fair people that you deal with at the office and you never feel rushed or that the office is over booked. All of my appointments have been pleasant experiences and I have been seen within 5 minutes of the appointment time.

    Lawrence Kaplan DDS
WORST Dentist EVER. BEWARE! Lies to patients telling them they need extensive dental procedures when they don't. THIS GUY'S A FRAUD. Tried to perform surgery on my gums, telling me I had Periodontal Disease and he needed to cut up my gums and stitch them back together?! Tried to talk me into a very pricey payment plan to pay out of pocket because no insurance covered. Then gave me free books to try and build trust and make himself look good. Went for a second opinion and had nothing wrong with my gums or mouth! WOW! People like this should be thrown in jail. STAY CLEAR!!!

    Koeppel Dental Group
I found Dr. Koeppel on Angies List and after reading the reviews, decided to make an appointment. Having been to his office 3x for consultation and x-rays it seems the doctor and entire staff seem genuinely concerned and caring. The real work begins early next year and will be quite a process. However, I am looking forward to fantastic results and to be able to write again with another positive review.
