Hvac Repair reviews in East Rockaway

Horrible experience. This company installed our hvac unit incorrectly. Because they flipped the coil and botched the installation, we now have an infestation of mold within the entire HVAC system. We had a lennox representative verify this, and he provided us with the attached paperwork, stating that the incorrect installation by New Mechanical Systems led to an overgrowth of moisture, condensation and mold. Because New mechanical Systems had such poor workmanship, the drain pan failed as well, and left us with an entire leak that caved in our daughters bedroom ceiling. New mechanical system will not even acknowledge are claim. Steer clear of this company.

The basement installation of the hot water heater and boiler went fine. The system is approx. 10-12 years old. The requested re-positioning of the thermostat in the den has resulted in a hanging wire that was not affixed/bolted to the wall in an unfinished and leaky garage. The boiler has encountered rust damage in a lower quadrant  that has necessitated sanding and a rustproofing application. An outflow pipe that was defined by a yearly Natl Grid service check described as crimped to fit  when the system was installed fell out and  was replaced with a fitted one by a service contract that was in place with National grid prior to the installation of the new system. The tank above the boiler was replaced with a larger sized one. With the assistance of the aforementioned existing service contract with natl grid, the system performs capably though on colder days it seems that a larger sized system might have been more appropriate

Ray Jr came over one evening a day after I submitted a request for a dealer to contact me on He walked me through my options and left me with some literature. He was efficient and knew his product offerings well and there was no sales pitch pressure. Price seemed comparable to another quote I received. I was eligible for around $500 of lipa + mitsubishi rebates and a 30% tax credit so the total cost for 2 units including the electrician was b/w $5-6k. I was not present during the installation but I was told it took roughly 4 hours for the 2 units (one on each side of the house, both second floor). The work site was clean and nothing extra was left behind for me to clean up. The units work very quietly and are a huge improvement over window ac's. Time will tell how the electric bill fares and how well this system works in the winter for heating.

After finally reaching an endpoint to repairing the damage from Sandy which included the installation of a new carpet, we had a leak in our antiquated cast iron radiator which was beginning to saturate the carpet. Jason from Mako arrived within hours of our call and diagnosed and fixed the leak. Before entering our house he introduced himself, laid down a floor mat with the Mako logo to insure the cleanliness of our home. He also diagnosed problems we were having with our zone valve and the safety valve on the gas boiler. He took the time to drive to a supply store to find the right parts that our old radiator needed. After completing the job, as he was writing the bill A new problem developed; a pipe broke on the tankless water heater and he went the extra mile to stay longer and fix that as well. He was always considerate and polite, expressing concern about procedures that affected the work we put into renovating our home after Sandy such as our new paint job. It's nice to have a caring technician!

I had to have a new Boiler installed last year after Irene, and went with another company with an "A" rating here on Angies List. Not sure i even looked at T.F.Obrien at the time. Anyway, that install went great, and wrote a nice review for them as well.
So, after Sandy hit, I knew that getting a new boiler would be tough, so i called ( the old HVAC company ) right away. Being an existing customer, they said they would get to me right away. A few days later i received a call asking what i needed. I explained i needed a new boiler as the basement had flooded again. He said ok, and would call me back to book a date. a week and a half later after numerous calls, he said he could get me on the schedule in 2 weeks.
2 Weeks later, no call. I called again left messages with the secretary, on his voice mail etc.. Another 1.5 weeks later with no call backs i began the hunt for a new HVAC company on Angies List.
Mind you during this time, we were living in our house with 4 little kids, no heat. I did end up purchasing a generator, and about 8 portable electric heaters. Was pretty cozy to be honest.
So, as i begin to look for a new HVAC company on Angies list i come across T.F O'Brien and a bunch of others i would consider for the job.. I began calling and asking for someone to come give me an estimate. Most companies told me they were only servicing their existing customers, and might be able to get to me in a few weeks.
Finally i get to T.F O'Brien, and they get me an appointment for the very next day! Knowing I am a new customer not an existing customer i thought that was awesome. Nobody else would do that. Turns out this was the best choice i could have made, and i should have started with them!
They came and looked at my damage and gave me an esitmate on the spot. He also confirmed that he would be able to get my install done in 2 weeks, and would be in touch in a few days to confirm everything.
few days later, i received a call, and everything was on track, except that Slant Fin was no were to be found. Wanted to make sure i was ok with another brand with the same or better specs. Company called Carrier. Turns out now that i have this Carrier installed i love it. Much better than my old Slant Fin. No more standing pilot light. The carrier has a self ignition. Great feature..
Anyway. i accepted the replacement model, and they confirmed they would be at my house the following week.
Next call i received was that following week from them confirming that they would be to my house on Thursday afternoon to begin the job mid afternoon. That thursday i received another call letting me know the guys were running a little late, but they would be there in an hour or 2 to start.
3 men arrived with a van and a truck. I met with them, all very nice and polite. They had a look at what the job was, asked a few questions, and i reminded them of the additional pipe work that needed to be done. They said no problem, we will get started removing the old boiler, and install the new one the following day.
Everything went smooth, and they came back and finished the next day. Nice guys, very polite and they did a great neat job.
They did have to come back the following week as the downstairs thermostat was not working. I called to let them know of the problem, and they sent someone out to fix it the same day. great after sale support.
I can say that I am very happy with this company ( T.F. O'Brien ) and will be happy to recommend them.

The salesman went into details explaining the units. He also gave the advantages of hiring them for service. While the job was being completed we had one complaint they came in a couple of days and fixed to our satisfaction.

They were very good and fantastic.  They were on Angie's List.  I've called them in the past to repair a washer and a dryer.  I was going to pick somebody else and I just happened to have an Angie's List book on my dining room table.  I opened the book up and realized I had used these people to repair a washer and dryer in the past so I called them.  I was very happy with them.  I didn't compare price with anybody but I'm sure it was fair.  We used to call them with the old furnace when we had a problem and they would come in and repair the old furnace.  This time it was under four feet of water so there was nothing they could do for it.

On the phone they were friendly, professional and knowledgeable.  However, they say that they service Nassau County, but do not service all areas of Nassau County.  They should update Angie's List to include only the towns that they provide services in.  Relying on their statement that they provide services in Nassau County, I spent about 30 minutes researching the company (largely all positive) before calling to find out that they will not provide services in my area.

    Rocklyn Fuel Oil Corp
The serviceman listened to my complaints of lack of hot water (something that my old company routinely dismissed as illogical since they installed the furnace and hot water coil), spent about an hour cleaning and making adjustments to my relatively new furnace, and changed several hoses and valves in the hope of alleviating my hot water chronic problem. There was no charge for this vs. the $225 my former company charged me last year.
