Driveway Pavers reviews in East Rockaway

    Blacktop Unlimited Inc
It needs to be separated into 2 parts: WORK CREW and OFFICE The WORK CREW was punctual, approachable, and answered all my questions. The job was completed within 2-3 hours. The company appears well capitalized as 2-3 trucks with equipment were on scene. The roller, however, left scuff marks and minor damage on the concrete sidewalk approaching the driveway. The use of a wood plank to lay over the sidewalk probably would have mitigated any damage and should be considered by the company for future jobs. The OFFICE was contacted through Angie's list. After 7-10 days, I was contacted by Angies list with the name of a different provider since the company had not yet responded to my initial inquiry. Within a week after that, I was Emailed a proposal that inferred an onsite estimate (approx $3.50 sq ft). With that, I was left telephone messages nearly daily. After I verbally agreed to the job, I was told I would be contacted to schedule the job. However, the next contact was by IM telling me WHEN they were going to do the job. This was with only a few days notice, which necessitated on the fly work vacation day changes - which adversely affected others - and a visit to Village Hall on the morning of the job to obtain waivers for street parking. A better level of client/contractor coordination should have been considered by the company. However, that being said, it is into the 2nd week of completion, I have driven on the driveway ( parking in the garage) and next week i am told I will be able to park on the driveway. The job looks to be done well. Without the unusual methods for booking / contacting by the office, a higher grade would have been achieved.

this needs to be separated into 2 parts: work crew and office CREW - They arrived on time and completed the work in a timely fashion. The company seems well capitalized as they arrive with several trucks and a full crew. The workers were approachable, professional, and willing to any my questions. The basic instructions were not to drive on the driveway for 1 week and not to park on it for 2 weeks. I am into the 2nd week, have driven on the driveway, and all seems fine. OFFICE - I made the initial request through Angie's List to the company. After about 1 week, I received an Email from Angie's list suggesting a different provider since I had not yet heard back from Blacktop Unlimited. A few days after, I received an estimate and i agreed to the proposal for replacement. I was not notified about the on-site estimate, but phone messages were left almost daily after the estimate was Emailed to me. Once I agreed, I was notified by IM that they had set the appointment without first contacting me with their available dates. I had to scramble to get time off from work with very little notice and to arrange street parking privileges with my Village on the day of the job. I would have appreciated being contacted by the office and been able to review the particulars of the job , as well the timing of the job person to person.

    Suburban Asphalt Concrete Co Inc
Contacted Suburban for an estimate.  After two calls they showed up back in October.  After two follow up calls were not replied to I contacted them today 1/19/15.  Response was woeful.  "I can get to it when it gets warmer:.  No explanation on why calls were not returned or no contact was attempted to be made in over two months.  Also, NO APPOLOGY OFFERED!  Stay away.

    Suburban Asphalt Concrete Co Inc
Found Suburban Asphalt here on Angies list. Called the number and left a message. Tom the owner called back the next day and we setup an appointment for him to come look at what I wanted, and give me an estimate.
Tom showed up for the appointment as scheduled right on time. Looked at what I wanted done, took his measurements and gave me a price. Told me he could be onsite in a week or two if I wanted to move forward.
I had called Tom back a week or so later asking if he could come one more time to give me a new quote, as we wanted to remove and pave over an existing a plant bed on the side of the driveway. Tom was very nice, and came over the next day to discuss.
He mentioned i need to get the the sprinkler head removed before I could move forward.
A week or so later, I had called tom again to come have a look, because i had some concerns about a spot near the middle of the driveway that would usually pool water in heavy rains. Tom was very nice, and offered to come once again and look, and offer some ideas. We also spoke about the new gate we were getting, and I asked him if he would remove the existing gate for me. He said yes, no problem.
Finally several weeks later, we had the sprinkler head removed, and booked the job.
Tom called me the 2 days before the job was to start and asked if he could come one more time to show his son what was being done, as he would be running the job. So the next morning they both showed up, we went over everything, and we were all set to start the project the next morning at 8am.
As expected, the crew was on time, and got right to work. They removed the plant bed, the stone and everything. tamped down the dirt, and got it ready to be filled with asphalt. Next they went to work removing the driveway gates. These posts were buried in concrete, and buried deep. It was no easy task, but the guys powered through, and did a great job.
Next, they cleaned up a bit, and removed the remaining items from my backyard, so they could start sealcoating the backyard.
One guy started seal coating, and the rest of the crew went to work laying the new asphalt. They worked quickly, and with great care and skill to make sure it was even and had some pitch towards the street.
Once the job was done, they cleaned up everything. All the dirt, the remaining little bits of blacktop. When they were done, they put some caution tape at the front of the driveway to block anyone from driving or walking on it.
All in all, Tom, His son and the entire crew did a great job from estimate to completion. I have already recommended them to friends, and will be happy to continue to do so.
For such a small dollar job, they took the same kind of care and attention someone would expect for a very large expensive job.
Hats off to this family run business, who remember how to do it right.
