  • Right now it is snowing like crazy and I am very happy that I went and had my new roof and gutters put on by Black Rock Roofing this fall! I have used this family owned company in the past for my rentals and relatives and have always been pleased. This time was no different. From the time of the in depth estimate by Joe, to deciding the color - the aunt of the owner who works in the office (her son is the estimator) took the time to find properties that the company had installed their roofs so that I could see what the roofing color and texture looked like on a an actual roof, to the expert help of Dave the owner, Dan's help, and of course, the awesome crew including the gutter men and the crew who made sure everything was put back right including the wires! I would not hesitate to recommend this company!

  • They came right away given a leak we had and had a huge crew. The work was done in two days which was impressive. We had a few shingles that were raised and they responded And fixed it that day. They also came back to fix two minor issues that were not completed during the install. In general I was pleased with the office staff and owners when I spoke with them. The foreman had limited communication with me and did not have great supervision of the crew. The biggest complaint was the poor job the crew did with cleaning up the debris from the tear off. They did come back two times and both times filled two buckets of nails. I also picked up about 200 nails and other debris including a lighter on my own. The owners were apologetic and professional but future customers may wish to be alert to this issue.

  • Wonderful. They are more expensive than other gutter cleaning companies but you get what you pay for. The wee prompt (immediate) professional and came back to add elbows and downspouts and no extra cost. Wonderful communication and service.

  • Excellent company, from top to bottom. Martin and Dennis Allen are very knowledgeable and were very helpful. I first met with Martin for the estimate and talked with him extensively about the work. He explained everything very clearly and was not at all daunted by the extra work (like building the porch roof) that we requested. This was not the case with other contractors who often saw these things as extra problems. The quote was quite reasonable given the size of the house and extra work/materials.

    The installation crew was fantastic. Everyone in the project was extremely professional and helpful. All my questions and requests were promptly taken care of. For example, the bottom of the original siding was stepped by our garage and we asked the crew if they could bring the siding down to get rid of the step, even though that part only had concrete behind it. The crew was able to attach the siding so that the bottom of it was at the same level all the way across. It looks much better. The trim work was expertly done and very detailed. They did a great job of properly re-hanging the gutters, fixing a number of problems that we were having with them.

    The work went quickly and I had a hard time keeping up with the crew to get the gutters painted before they were ready to put them back up. When I did run a bit late, the crew was very patient and completed the work after I finished repainting the gutters.

  • The company was several days late in arriving.  Some of the delay was due to weather, which was understandable.  When they arrived, they were at my property for 10min total.  Hardly a fair price ($99) for 10 minutes of work.  They left the gutter contents in my trash barrel for disposal.  For the price, I felt it would have been part of the deal to remove the contents.  Next time, I will just do the job myself.

  • It took me over a year of planning to define the project scope of work and then interview contractors for the job. I selected Black Rock Roofing because of their high rating and positive reviews from customers. I am so incredibly satisfied with the results and felt compelled to share my project with others planning similar work. Even before I selected and signed a contract with Black Rock, their salesman, Mark B. gave his time and knowledge showing me all of the options to consider (i.e. roofing material, siding styles / colors and most importantly window-door types). Once the project was underway, their work crews displayed professionalism and quality workmanship in all aspects. Black Rock has separate crews for installing roofs, windows/ doors and siding trim. All experts in their craft! My project was extensive and involved a complete "make-over" of the exterior from a 1970's Tudor style to a fresh modern look. The project duration was 3-months and sequenced in the proper order of replacement starting with the roof, then windows-doors and finally siding-trim. I highly recommend Black Rock!

    Attn Customer Service:

    I recently had a bad experience with Kaz Brothers and wanted to share my concerns regarding the quality of workmanship, customer service and billing practices. I hired your company to remove the ice from the gutters and the lower portion of the main house.  What resulted was a mediocre quality of work, significant damage to my landscaping and a bill about 17% greater than the maximum range.

     

    On March 2 I contacted Kaz Companies for an ice removal quote for my roof. In an effort to keep the costs down I requested work on only the main house, not the sunroom or the garage. The receptionist as well as Rob (Ext. 22) explained to me that they didn?t offer individual quotes but the range was $350-$700. I mentioned that it was a wide range but I was reassured that ?under no circumstances would it be above $700?. I accepted their offer to remove the ice using a steam machine as I had a new roof installed in 2014. I then arranged to be at the property during the work on Thursday, March 5.

     

    On Thursday, March 5 the foreman arrived with three workers. I provided the water and the electricity to power the steam machine. The foreman said that they would ?completely remove the ice from the gutters, cut back the ice a couple feet from the edge and using steam cut the blocks of ice so that there?s an avenue for the water to drain.? They were there for about 4 hours and I was there for all but the last hour. A workman mentioned something about ?coming back to finish? before I left but there may have been a misunderstanding.

     

    I returned later to find that there was a 6-8 foot section of ice that was not cut, but was still solid. I went onto my smaller roof and noticed that there was also ice in the gutters of the main portion of the house. They did a decent job but it was not as advertised by the foreman. I called Rob (Ext. 22) and left a voicemail referencing my concerns. The message further stated I took pictures and would forward them to his cell. phone.  He didn?t call me back that day or the next, which was Friday.

     

    Saturday I noticed (or I should say my wife noticed) that they had been indiscriminately tossing the 15-20 lb. ice blocks wherever they wanted with little concern for what was in the area. As a result in the front of the house they completely pulverized 2 bushes and severely damaged 2 more. These are mature landscape features that will cost a few hundred dollars to have replaced professionally. These bushes were in plain view and the only way to explain this is that they were lazy, reckless and/or poorly trained. I called Rob (Ext. 22) and left another voicemail mentioning the damage and that I had more pictures to forward him. And he again didn?t call me back.

     

    I assumed Rob or someone from the company would call me on Monday or Tuesday. Nope, but I did get a bill for $815.63. That?s about 17% higher than the maximum cap I would be charged based on the final agreement and conversations with 2 Kaz Companies employees. If the foreman had arrived and stated that this was a job outside of the range (even though it was only a portion of my total structure) then we could have made a decision at that point to hire your company or seek other bids.

     

    ***Bottom Line: 

    Ø  I was overcharged by a minimum of $115.63. I will only consider the max. $700 quote and nothing more.

    Ø  The customer service was awful. Your scheduler (Rob) received both my messages but refused to return either one over a period of 6 days. I doubt he even referred them to customer service, if that even exists at Kaz Companies.

    Ø  Your employees did reasonable work, but where was the ?100% removal of ice from the gutters?? I have pictures of ice in the gutters, not to mention the 6-8 foot ice slab that?s still on my roof. When you look at the pictures it seems as if someone just forgot which is why I called Rob to see if they were coming back.

    Ø  Your employees threw ?cinderblocks? of ice onto mature landscaping and have caused substantial damage.

     

    My proposals:

    1.       I will deduct the damages to my property from the $700 contractual maximum and remit back $400 as paid-in-full. I will be responsible for replacing the damaged bushes.

    2.        As an alternative, we will wait until the thaw and I will have a reputable nursery come out, access the damage and give me a price for professional installation of the bushes. They will not quote the price of seedlings but rather mature bushes. I will then deduct that amount from the $700 and forward you the difference, which could be quite a bit less than $400.

     

    In summary, I?m very unhappy with the quality of work, customer service and the billing practices. I have attached a check for $400. If you accept this offer to move along with our lives then please cash this check and as such will end our business relationship.

  • Gutter King did a great job.  The owner came out to give me an estimate.  He explained everything about his product and was very professional and friendly.  Gave me a great price and then installed the gutters within a few days.  Guys who did the work were on time and very efficient.  Gutters look wonderful.  They left my deck a little dirt, my gutters were filled with mud and leaves, but my hose was not working properly so it was hard to clean up.  
    I would definitely recommend using Gutter King!!!!!
