How to Make Kitchen Appliances Last Longer

    DC Appliance Repair
I was given DC Appliance Repair as my service provider by KitchenAid on a repair my dishwasher needed. From the moment I called them I was very impressed with their professionalism and attention to detail. Not something I see much when dealing in a lot of service industries these days. I was surprised when the service by the tech was even better. His name was Dominic and he was well dressed, professional, and very efficient with his time. I was thrilled with the overall experience and the online tracking of when my service was going to fall in the days schedule. Oddly enough the day they completed my dishwasher service I had a burning smell coming from my dryer. Not good news but at least I knew who to call. Once again the service was outstanding, prices seemed fair, and Dominic was prompt, professional, and took care of business. I highly recommend you make DC Appliance Repair your go to source for all major appliance repair. They will certainly be my go to source from now on.

    Orville's Appliances

Tim at this location of Orville's was very helpful.  He noted my interest in a certain color only GE makes, and priced it for me, although they don't carry GE products.  They can special order, and Tim wrote out a potential order pending my final decision, and the work to remove cabinetry necessary to accommodate any new refrigerator.

When I called him back to order, he honored the quoted price, which had gone up in the meantime, and placed the order.  When it came in, we scheduled a convenient time/date for delivery.  They are very good about calling with a two-hour window of delivery, and again a call when they are close to your location.

The delivery guys came in and measured doorways throughout to determine how best to bring it into the house.  After several minutes, they determined the only way was through the family room door...which was blocked by 4-5' of snow.  They were very nice about it all, and just said to call and reschedule delivery when I had the path cleared (about 30' - and no snowblower!).

Overnight I began to think perhaps my decision on this model wasn't such a good one, and the next morning I measured how far out the unit would stick from the wall.  It was about 5-6", and that meant it was a really intrusive piece of machinery in the kitchen pathway.  Sick about being so stupid as not to do the measurement off the wall (worrying only about the height, really), I decided to return to the store and inquire what, if anything, could be done to return the one unit and order a (more expensive, but better suited) cabinet depth from GE...yet another special order.  This being a Sunday, they couldn't honestly give me an answer until the following day.  I read their invoice, and it alluded to not accepting returns on special orders and something about 25% in a restocking fee.  Still, I was going to have to live with whatever I got for some time, so was prepared for the worst.

The following day, Tim called to say that they would take the original unit and put it into their floor inventory, and would not even charge the restocking fee.  I was responsible only for the difference between the first unit and the cabinet depth one, and they gave me a break on that price as well.  I was so shocked and thrilled, I nearly cried.  They really went over and above.  I realize they are in this for profit, and presume they will profit from all this, but they just made it so easy for me, when their stated policies said they didn't have to.

Meanwhile, I cleared the pathway all the same to the family room door, in the event it makes things easier for the delivery guys when they return to delivery my new unit.  Can't wait to get it, and sing the praises of Orville's Transit Road in the meantime.

    Streeter's Appliance Service
After our basement flooded Don came out to check our appliances per the advice of our insurance company.  He looked over everything and advised us regarding the need to repair or replace these items.  He arrived as he stated he would and was very thorough.

    Mike's Appliance Service
Mike arrived on time and immediately "jumped-in" to access the problem. Within a matter of minutes, he diagnosed the problem to be a plugged exhaust. It took approximately fifty minutes to clean the entire exhaust tubing and correct the problem. The dryer has never worked better and we were pleasantly surprised with the cost outcome. I found Mike to extremely personable, highly professional and I strongly recommend him for all appliance repairs.

Jim (this is a one-man company with an answering service) showed up the next day and pinpointed the trouble right away. Unlike other companies, he did not try to sell me anything. He pointed out that I had a high-quality hot water heater and it would be worth _repairing_ it not replacing it. He got the unit working right away but (as mentioned above) figured that a certain part on it would fail soon. I liked how he gave me the option to repair that part within 30 days to consider it a part of the same service call (and therefore avoid further service call fees). I think he was honest and was interested in just getting me back in service without having an agenda geared towards unnecessary sales or service.

My older refrigerator and freezer stopped cooling and freezing (on Sunday, of course). I consulted Angie;s List for a good repair person and chose Spincycle. I left a message on Sunday and they responded promptly on Monday morning. The repair person called a while later and said he could be here shortly. He came, repaired my fridge efficiently and quickly. He was professional and pleasant in demeanor. He said they would call back at a later date to see how it was working. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. When any other appliances conk out, I wouldn't think of asking anyone else to do the job.

Vic at Spincycle was prompt and very friendly. My dishwasher was making terrible loud noises at various stages of wash. He cleaned the food grinder and food trap. He leveled the motor and suggested I wait a few days to see if this would help. He also gave me an unofficial estimate of what a motor replacement would cost if these first adjustments didn't work. He suggested I look into the cost of a new washer and weigh the pros/cons of repair/replace and he did not push for the repair. He said someone would call back in 2 weeks to check up on things and they did. The adjustments he made made a big difference, though it is still louder than normal. We decided to live with it for the time being. I would definitely call Spincycle again for service.

The repair went very quickly and efficiently. A diagnosis was made of the problem and we were told the cost of replacing the necessary part before Vic proceeded with the repair work. The work was completed in less than a half hour.

We have an almost 14 year-old gas Maytag dryer. A few weeks ago, it suddenly started making an annoying loud rumbling noise, but it was still drying our clothes okay. Since the dryer was so old, we considered simply buying a new one, but then I decided to look on Angie's List to see if there were any highly recommended appliance repairmen. I found the listing for Spincycle and called them. I spoke to Vic's wife, who was very nice. She scheduled an appointment, that was two days away, from when I called. Vic was scheduled to arrive at 1:00 p.m., but he called about 10:30 a.m. and said he could come by earlier. He did come by early, diagnosed the problem, said he had the necessary part in his truck, and quoted the price of $98 plus tax to complete the job. He performed the work and left. He was here, no more than one-half hour. The dryer is very quiet now, we can barely hear it. Vic said he works on all large appliances and A/C units. We love him and highly recommend him.

If you are looking for cheap, Rick is not your guy. However, I've never felt like I was being gouged or taken advantage of. If you want a real professional who conducts himself in a very business-like manner, you can't go wrong with Richard Rockwood. He is based out of his home in Lockport, so when you call, you will get his answering machine. He is very busy. Also, I don't know how far south he will travel. Unless you tell him in your message that the work you need done is urgent, it might take him a couple of days to call you back, but he will call. Once you have talked to him and scheduled a time for him to come by, he is very prompt. He is also very reliable with respect to arriving at the time he says he'll be there to perform the work. One other thing. Finishing our basement took a few days. We ended up allowing him access to our home while we were away, and I never once worried about doing so. As you can tell, we think he is the best home improvement guy out there.
