    I contacted Flue Tech in approximately November of 2015 to provide an estimate on some repointing work needed on my chimney.  The office personnel could not have been nicer or more efficient in calling back, leaving messages and handling the scheduling.  They apologized when they told me that the first appointment available would be in January, but I figured if they are a good company, then of course they are busy and I was in no rush.  
    Come January, I received several reminders from the office person that the appointment for the estimate was upcoming and she did her best to help narrow the time within the service windows.  The estimator arrived on time, was efficient and knowledgeable.  He walked me through some issues with access and explained that they would need to rent a cherry picker to get at the north side of the brick, which would add $1400 to the cost of the $1760 repair, a total of $3392.26 with tax.
    I contacted two more providers for an estimate.  Although one came in under Flue Tech, I felt that their ratings here on Angie's List and the way the estimator understood the work made them the best choice.  This is where the problems started.
    I called and left a message at the office, saying that I had received an estimate on January 9, would like to go ahead with the work, my number and address and the estimate number, 15425.  I waited about 2 weeks but never heard back.  I then called the office again and this time spoke with the office person.  She asked me for my phone number and address but could not find the estimate.  I gave her the estimate number, but she said that perhaps it wasn't in the system yet.  She took my information and said she would follow up and have someone get back to me.  I waited again approximately another two weeks and heard nothing.  I called for a 3rd time.  I explained to the office person that this was my third attempt.  She took my information yet again, including the estimate number, and said that she would have someone call me.
    That was approximately a week ago and I have heard nothing.  A true waste of time.  I would be careful as to this company's follow through.

    So happy we called Vermont Good Wood.  So much more cost efficient than buy wood at Stew Leonards!  We called them before Christmas and a few days later they came by.  We purchased a wood rack which they set up and loaded with wood.  The wood is good quality.  The workers were very friendly.  Will continue to purchase fire wood from them.

    James is a pleasure to work with - they were prompt and with the large crew, completed all the work in two days. We were concerned about our new driveway but were assured they would cover everything with tarps. When they left, the area was immaculate and all the repairs look great. We are looking forward to having them back in a few months to do some other work.

    Initially we hired Advanced Chimney Inc for a simple chimney sweep. At the time we had a non-working fireplace downstairs and a working fireplace upstairs. As we talked through options with them, given our existing flues, it made the most sense to put in a new, working fireplace downstairs and ventless gas fireplace upstairs. At the same time they redid our chimney. The downstairs fireplace is great. Advanced Chimney recommended a bellfire, which we're happy with, and they came, installed it and put in a new liner with no problem. Unfortunately since then it has been all problems. The chimney has stains on it that, though we have been told they will be fixed, remain. The upstairs gas fireplace had scratches on it before it was installed, they destroyed the wood hearth below the fireplace putting it in, the main log inside the fireplace was broken during installation, and we never received the remote control to turn the fireplace on. We made the mistake of paying them in full before they fixed the chimney or gas fireplace, and now have been waiting over a month for the repairs. We were told that the log is on backorder, and they're waiting for it to arrive to come and fix everything. We were then told it was in and they were supposed to come last Saturday to fix it - no one showed. For now, the chimney is still stained, the new gas fireplace is still scratched, the main log is still missing, the remote control is still missing, and the floor in front is still destroyed. Though we appreciated the advice they gave us through the process, we spent a lot of money for a job that was half well-done. I will re-post if these problems are ever fixed, but for now we're still waiting to hear back from Chris.

    We did not use this vendor. The price was fair. I asked to be here when the estimate call was made so that I could understand what needed to be done. It couldn't be done. The first request for an estimate was lost. I called 3 times. Because of there Angie's grade I called back again. He remembered my name, apologized and sent someone right away. We simply went with another vendor due to thorough walk through and explanation of why we needed the work completed.

    The price was fair, the estimate was very detailed. I had to go with my gut after reading a few of the reviews. I was struck that this vendor has a number of companies doing similar work. At the recommendation of another Angie's List member I did some background research. I was disturbed at the number of lawsuits filed. It seemed better to not get involved. I also didn't appreciate the way he spoke to his employee who came along on the estimate.
