My cat has been doing well but had heart failure a year ago.  Her appetite was decreasing but she was doing ok.  I took her to the ER at Coral Springs, not because it was an emergency, but I needed a place open on Sunday.  The vet checked for fluids on the X-ray and told me there wasn't any and that the X-ray would be sent to a board certified radiologist.  Next day I met with the cardiologist who told me there was fluid on the X-ray.  That is nothing compared to what followed.  Cardiologist, Dr. Carpenter, was very rough with my cat in that he kept doing things, taking her in and out of the carrier, moving her to the back and bringing her into the exam room.  Furthermore, they performed a urinary sentesis whereby they obtain urine with a needle going into the bladder.  Most of the times, vets use ultrasounds to guide them through this procedure.  Apaprently this vet did not.  In addition, my cat was on plavix which causes bleeding.  My cat bled for about 24 hours after the exam.  She was quite ill when I got home and there was back and forth to Coral Springs.  Doctors there were not sharp and not honest.  They were disorganized and couldn't even find her prior blood work.  My cat was continuing to get worse at home but I never got a call from the cardiologist even though she was in the hospital for about 2 days.  My cat died a few days later.  I don't know if she was still bleeding internally, or had heart failure.  Below are excerpts from my letter to Dr.  Carpenter, the cardiologist which I believe sums it up.
Dr. Carpenter, I have the highest regard for veterinarians, especially specialists.  I have also been to many specialty hospitals, including the Animal Medical Center, Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists, Yonkers Animal Specialty Center, Oradell Animal Hospital and Red Bank. I have used two excellent cardiologists in NY and they have been humble, brilliant and kind.  I have always been able to reach them by email or by phone.  While you could be brilliant, you certainly have not been accessible, nor have you been sensitive to my cat.  I have had the worst experience by far, at the Coral Springs Veterinary Circus, starting with your exam.  (This includes the front desk which is highly disorganized.)  ?...
After Dr. ____ performed the sentesis that morning, Emily bled profusely. Did you ever consider the fact that she was on Plavix and would bleed?  This bleeding continued for 24 hours.  Secondly, Dr. ______, on emergency, told me that Dr. ____did not use an ultrasound for this procedure and could have hit a mass in her bladder.  By the time Emily got home the towel in the carrier was soaked in blood.   How could you even have let her come home in this condition?  When I arrived home from work later that day, Emily was under the bed, lethargic?she was a totally different cat than she was on Monday morning and never recovered.  That was how she spent the next few days until her death, under the bed facing the wall. ?..
I?m really, really disappointed in everything about you and the hospital.  I have spent about $2,000 this week and although this is a small fortune for me, more than the money I have spent, I am sorry that once Emily went so downhill after your exam I let her suffer so much and received very little guidance from your staff.  I am just so sad to find such confusion, deception, lack of care and compassion, and lack of sophistication in your record keeping and amateurishness of your front desk.  This is supposed to be the ?Animal Medical Center? of Florida but I think it?s really the Animal Medical Circus in every way from the receptionists to most of the vets.  (With the exception of one tech who really mishandled Emily, I thought the techs were really nice and competent.) ?..
I don?t know what could have occurred during the exam and/or during the sentesis that caused her to go downhill so rapidly, whether it was too much blood loss or mishandling.  Emily had had a great year after the onset of CHF.  I always told myself she would never have to suffer and never left her alone too long so that I could stay on top of her condition.  This was far from the perfect and humane ending I had wanted for a cat who did not have a good start in life. Instead, her cardiac exam resulted in days of suffering due to who knows what.  I am sure however, of the lack of communication and honesty.

Wonderful! I experienced nothing but professionalism and courtesy from everyone I encountered from the moment I came in to when I left. Dr Hoskins was very open about discussing what my budget was for the visit since it turned out my older dog is developing a cardiac issue. Vet care is expensive especially in New York so I appreciated his openness especially since I had 2 dogs. He explained everything in a clear concise manner. Ed,the vet tech,is definitely Dr Hoskins' best holder of scared dogs because he handled my Charley better than anyone else I have seen handle him. After years of using low cost clinics to keep my dogs updated on their rabies shots,I realized I needed a consistent veterinary care for my dogs after a crisis with one of them. I am so glad to have found them through Angies List.

Dr. Carol Popolow is our dog's  regular Vet in this 3-doctor practice. She is caring, knowledgable, and most importantly, a straight shooter.  My only issue with the practice is that tests and labwork can run a little pricey.

Dr. Carol Popolow is brilliant.  When our old dog reached the end of her days (stomach cancer), Dr. Popolow was both candid and compassionate and didn't put Lucy through ineffective procedures or stick us with unnecessary costs. Can't say enough about her, and she's great with our new dog too.

I love my vet. Croton Animal Hospital has been treating my dogs for 20 years. They are caring and wonderful people. The place is clean and everyone knows me personally and they know my dogs as well. I can't say enough good things about this place.

I would rate him high overall. He is a really good vet. I have two cats. Their price is fine.
