Bee & Jay Plumbing & Heating
Quite honestly, I was incredibly disappointed by what happened with Bee&Jay. As soon as I saw them listed here I recognized the name from when I grew up in the area, and I had high hopes. They dispatched a plumber and were prompt about doing it. When he arrived on site he discovered that the problem was worse than we expected though. The smell that was coming from our basement wasn't from a busted cap as we thought, but from a broken pipe that was seeping sewer gases into the house. This plumber was somewhat new to the company though and asked his supervisor, who is one of the owners of the company, to come out and help him assess the situation. This is where the real trouble started. When the owner came out to look, he started going on and on about how huge of a job it was going to be and that he needed to bring someone else out to take a look to help him figure out what the quote would be. They came back a few days later and explained how we would have to open up the foundation wall, excavate about 20 sq ft of the basement floor, around 100 cubic ft of ground outside, to build a complicated housing outside the house, and then repair all of the excavation being done, just so we could build a new house trap and vent. About 5 days after they came out, we were called and given a quote of $8,775 to do the repair work. When we heard the price we tried to get more information as to what the price included and were given very general answers. We asked for an itemized run down of the costs and were basically given a few general ideas of the work but when we pushed more on understanding why the construction part was so high, they backed off, explained how asking those kinds of questions would cause people to stop answering the phone, and they just told us at that point they would give us a bill for the visit when they came out and that would be it. Since we still needed the pipe to be repaired, we called around to various family friends looking for a reference and found that we actually knew someone who is married to a plumber who does this type of work. He came out and looked at what was wrong and almost choked when we told him the price we were quoted. Unfortunately, through this process we discovered that not only was our pipe broken, but our septic wasn't draining and the fields were completely caked and useless. When we bought the house, our home inspector didn't do a deep investigation into the septic so we missed this. Something that started out as a bad smell in the basement turned into needing to replace an entire septic system. After all of that though, the amazing thing is that replacing the entire septic system, fields, and the broken pipe in the basement, we only spent a few hundred dollars more than Bee&Jay's original quote to simply repair the pipe. After having 5 different plumbing and septic companies coming out along the way, all of which amazed at the quote we received both in its price and unnecessary configuration, it's very clear that Bee&Jay were trying to get one over on us. I will definitely not be using them for any service in the future and would recommend to everyone to watch your wallet, and go with a different company.

    MOLINO PLUMBING & HEATING LLC
He replaced drains in the bathroom.  He piped and replaced existing drains in kitchen plus connection for dishwasher and fixed our water pressure problems.  Also put shower faucet back on.  He is a hard worker and very pleasant to deal with.  We would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.   Our sink faucets and drains have never worked so good in our kitchen since the day we moved in 35 years ago but Mario solved the problem by repiping and redoing the setup!  A vast improvement!  Thank you Mario!

Local Guy Plumbing & Drain Service
We called Local Guy on a tiny leaking pipe under the kitchen sink last summer, and he did a great job, so we called him in after the whole shower apparatus was destroyed. He advised us on how to get the replacement parts for free (you think I remembered there was a lifetime guarantee? Thanks for the $289 in savings there, Dave!), repaired everything perfectly, listened patiently to our tales of plumbing woe, was extremely patient with our deranged four pound Yorkie who seemed to feel her new mission in life was to sabotage all work, and actually advised us on how to solve the tankless water heater problem...Amazing! He also accomodated our extremely limited time schedules. I cannot tell you what a difference it makes in the quality of life to enjoy a luxurious shower without living in terror of a blast of icy water...which stays icy until you go down to the basement to reset the stupid thing, usually with a head of conditioner. Furthermore, considering the fact that we spent well over a thousand dollars in useless attempts to fix the water heater, and Dave saved us the cost of buying all the shower hardware, this may be the best spent money we have invested into the house. I recommend Local Guy to everyone. Is it wrong to think of Local Guy plumbing while enjoying a nice long shower? Not when you are thanking your lucky stars you hired Local Guy!

Dave Goldberg Plumbing & Heating Inc
My basement sink drain was clogged. Mike was persistent and snaked the drain several times but the drain still drained slowly. He had to return to the shop to get a longer, heavy duty snake. He did not charge me for his travel time to get the snake. With the big snake he was able to clear the clog.

    BESTWAY PLUMBING SERVICES
I chose them because 1) they had acceptable reports from Angie's List, 2) their price was the best. The owner/boss was friendly and accessible on the phone. Two guys showed up, not the owner who I had talked with on the phone, and they seemed competent and were very polite, but they didn't seem quite as experienced as I had expected. At the end, they had some trouble resealing the hole that the snake went in and then said they had to charge me an extra $25 to repair the plate. Not a huge deal and I probably should have asked to talk with their supervisor at the time, but didn't. They were still very nice. But after they left it annoyed me that 1) they weren't quite as experienced as I thought they were, and 2) I ended up paying more, when one of the main reasons I hired them was because their price was so reasonable.

DeGasperi & Son Plumbing & Heating, Inc.
Showed up promptly at 7:30 a.m. and spent the entire day installing my new oil burner and water heater. It seemed to take quite a long time (13 hours!) but they did a professional job. I do not think they were that knowledgeable about setting up the boiler once it was installed and I had my oil company (Burke Oil) do that. He also needed to come back and install an expansion tank on the water heater which he did promptly. Overall I would say good, but not excellent.
