    Chimney Solutions
From the estimating and planning through the take-down of the old chimney and rebuild of the new one, the project was nicely done. I felt I was in the loop on the choice of materials and planning for the rebuild. The crew worked around gardens and landscaping that would have been damaged if they had not taken extra care. They also took care to protect sky lights and a recently painted outdoor deck from any falling construction debris. They were punctual, kept the work area clean and well organized at the end of a work day.

We had a water leak due to crumbling mortar, no cap, and bad flashing. We also have a gas boiler, and the existing clay liner could not handle the moisture produced by the gas. To fix all these issues, I had originally planned to have multiple companies do the work (all of them wanted to charge us about 4 times as much as Chimney Solutions and take at least 4 months to do the work). In the end, I felt Chimney Solutions was the best equipped for the job, and they offered the most competitive and complete bid, so we went with them. We scheduled the work about 3 weeks out from the initial estimate, and 4 workers completed the job in 2 days. Overall, we are happy with the service, the work, and the value, and would choose Chimney Solutions again.

Some confusion about the time/date of the appointment and it got cancelled by the office staff the first time around. Technician was late to arrive but friendly and thorough.

It went just fine.  People were good-humored and cheerful, in spite of the fact that the space between the chimney and the neighbors fence meant their work had to be done in tight quarters.

Well. They arrived when they said they would and made sure we understood what needed to be done and why.

Tom is such a professional!!  Scaffolding was built and the chimney was taken apart piece by piece and a sigh of relief was had by all when the area of the missing bricks was reached.  Everything was taken into consideration including the flowers in my mother's garden.  Work was done in a very clean manner and safety was always taken into consideration.  When all the work was done you would never have know someone was there working. Tom and his worker always arrived on time and our project was done in a timely manner.  Communication from request of an estimate to the finish of the project was always professional and timely too.  Any issues were resolved easily with understanding, discussion, and agreement of both parties. I would highly recommend Tom to anyone and I would also consider him for my masonry needs in the future.

A bit ragged, fault of techs. Liner pipe jammed and tore chimney. The unit they sent was wrong. Rescheduled quickly and all went well. Nice save.

    Hearth & Home Ithaca
We were doing this work through the demands of our home insurance company and so needed to have it done in the winter, even though winter is not a good time to have any kind of patch put on the chimney. We got estimates from several contractors, both individuals and companies and felt that the explanation and price offered by Jeffery Kells with Hearth and Home was reasonable and his willingness and availability to do the work promptly sealed the deal. The quality of the work and the punctuality and courtesy with which it was performed were very good. My only complaints are with Hearth and Home the company, rather than the people who completed the work. Firstly, Hearth and Home charged us $108 for a visit that I thought was just an estimate. This is not good. If you are going to charge clients for a visit, that should be clear at the time the appointment is made, not after the fact. Secondly, after charging us, we did not hear back from Hearth and Home until WE called them asking for the estimate for the work. But, as I mentioned, these complaints have to do with the business end of things with Hearth and Home. I would recommend Jeffery Kells as a contractor without hesitation.

    ITHACA STOVE WORKS
We were very pleased with our experience. They maintain a nice, clean showroom representative of a variety of fireplaces and stoves and appurtenances. Sue is extremely likeable, courteous and helpful. She took her time as we discussed our options and kept us apprised of delivery dates. The technicians are similarly courteous and helpful, as we contacted them on occasion to discuss technical minutia related to the installation. We've been extremely pleased with our fireplace which kept us very warm through the Winter and look forward to years of trouble-free service. When we contacted them recently asking whether they serviced kitchen stoves, Sue was kind enough to return our call the same day-even though they unfortunately do not service them.
