    SLR Industries Inc.
Excellent. We had a slight puddling problem near the garage after completion and the owner came back as soon as possible, made a small adjustment and it now drains beautifully. We hired them again to install a concrete pad for our wood pile and again, excellent and timely. Very very pleasant to deal with.

It was such a relief to get rid of our tired old and cracked concrete patio and install a new patio that made us want to BBQ and relax outside more than ever!  Thanks to Shawn and his capable team at SJM Tile and Masonry.

The Owner, Devon, was very cooperative and very pleasant. I told him what I wanted done and how I wanted it done and he accommodated me.
First I was concerned that my buried sprinkler lines would be damaged because they ran exactly where the trench was to be dug to pour the 4" concrete base I wanted for my new walkways. I was very happy to find that his crew was so careful that none of the lines were damaged and any anticipated repairs I expected to be made to the lines were not necessary.
Since my previous driveway had tire ruts in them, because of the poor soil under my existing driveway, i wanted him to remove at least 6' of the soil and replace it with a solid base. They removed and carted away between 8"-10" of soil depth and replaced it with a base of RCA, a crushed concrete and stone. It felt very solid after a week of settling. Devon, himself, laid the new asphalt driveway and steam rolled it to make sure it was to his satisfaction.
As for his crew, they accommodated me with any requests I had as the work proceeded. All the work was accomplished during 6 days of actual construction.

    Condos Brothers Construction
Work started in March of 2010 with the removal of existing driveway and old front walkway. Primary grading began with several loads of RCA spread out. After many calls, they finally came back at the end of June. Final grading began and they realized the whole driveway was too high so they removed all of the RCA they put down.  Now I was back to the existing crushed stone that was under the old driveway. After grading was completed, I noticed many areas that were soft under foot when I walked on it and told them about it.  The foreman said not to worry about that, it would be ok once the asphalt went down (first red flag). Belgium block edging went in and these guys were very good at what they did. Front walkway was layed out with paver edge and paver strips every 8 feet. Very nice job again. From research that I have done prior to the job, it is well understood in the industry that there can be no organic material under the driveway otherwise there will be problems with things growing up through the asphalt, such as mushrooms and cracking due to ground movement.  Basically, that's what the supposed 6 inches of RCA is supposed to take care of. Asphalt must be laid on 'dead' ground. They told me that even though they removed all the RCA they put down, what was under there originally was fine for the job (another red flag). Asphalt went down and the job was completed. It looked wonderful...for about 4 weeks.  The hairline cracks started. I called them back and they said it was from tree roots. They said when it gets sealcoated next year it would be fine. Next year came and it was cracking all over the place so when they came to sealcoat it they filled the cracks and assured me all would be fine, again blaming it on tree roots. I said what about these areas where there are no trees and they said there are roots everywhere under ground. The majority of the cracking was where I told them the ground  was soft underfoot before they even laid the asphalt. I have cracking on the walkway where there aren't any trees or car traffic. I have mushrooms popping up all over the place and dips in certain areas as if the ground has settled. Here it is, 4.5 years later, and now the cracks are opening up to as much as a half inch. I called them back but again they tell me it's from tree roots, even though there are no trees near the majority of the cracks. I was told Paul (an owner)would come out and look at it but of course nobody ever comes and my phone calls go unreturned.  So, 4.5 years later and $10,000 out of pocket I have a driveway and walkway full of cracks ranging in size from 1/16 of an inch to 1/2 inch in width. Of course now the wider cracks have crumbling edges which is just the beginning of what is to come.  In all fairness, the laborers were all truly good craftsman but the lack of a proper underlayment is the cause of all my problems.  I'll never understand why a business with a long history on Long Island would cheap out on their jobs by not doing the proper prep work. Now that 4 1/2 years have past, I can honestly say that the 25 year old driveway that was replaced was in better shape than my current driveway. The old one had the aggregate showing and broken edges due to no edging and was showing signs of wear but there were very few cracks. If the job was truly done with 6 inches of RCA as was contracted, and 2 inches of asphalt, there would be no problems. Of course, they tell me different.

    Killpatrick Construction
On or about September, 2014 we engaged Killpatrick Construction to perform work on our driveway.  We obtained his name from Angies List where he had a good rating.  He told us that he would pitch our driveway in a way that there would be no overflow of water into our garage and no puddling that would wear away the asphalt in front of the garage.  At first he advised that we needed drains near the driveway but he thought better of that and told us that the drains were unsightly and we would not need them if he pitched the driveway correctly.  He came with his crew to perform the work, but, before he stared he told us he could brick our front entrance so it would match the front of the house - the front needed work, but we had not thought about doing it then.  He said he could improve the walk.  We agreed and the front walkway was done first - and done to our satisfaction.  The driveway estimate was $4,500.00 - the walkway was estimated at $300.00.  But, we asked that he enlarge the area of the walkway which made the cost $1,200.00.  The entire cost for both the walkway and driveway was   $6,000.00.

The driveway was started next.  But, it wasn't pitched the way he said it would be and, consequently, we had puddling in front of the garage as before.  Calls to Killpatrick went unanswered for the most part and when we finally got him to look at the garage he told us that it was not pitched correctly.  Weeks later his crew returned and tore up the perimeter of the driveway, leaving the interior of the driveway in tact.  It remained like that for nearly two weeks, afterwhich his crew returned with additional asphalt which was applied to the original asphalt as well as the perimeter of the driveway.  He said "you're getting two driveways for the price of one".

After he assured us all was well with the driveway, we had rain and our garage started to fill with water.  We needed newspapers applied to the garage floor to catch the water.  He returned, and because we were unable to lock our garage, he tried hammering the garage door lock to make it fit.  That didn't work.  The last thing he handed us was weatherproofing which he told us to apply under the garage door to prevent the water from entering.   He never came back to see the water in our garage, although we called him over 10 times.  To date,  our problem has not been resolved.   He continues to ignore our phone calls.

I would simply say that there are certainly those businesses that cater to those looking to save monies in all aspects while simultaneously sacrificing quality and service.  More often than not, I find Angie's List to include those who have some amorphous idea of what they should be paying, when in reality we are calling experts in their respective fields to offer their advice.  Rob was absolutely not the most expensive, but he was certainly the most conscientious and prepared to provide sage advice and detailed ideas as to how we could proceed.

Rob, arrived at my home two years ago for some minor work and is now a good friend and someone I would recommend in the highest terms without qualification.  His prices are commensurate with what I have found previously and his level of concern, professionalism and caring far exceeds any company I have dealt with, regardless of the project or nature of the work.

I would state unequivocally that once Rob had offered suggestions (to a homeowner not literate in this particular field), his promises were only outweighed by the final product.  We could not be more pleased with the effort he placed in beautifying our home and the requisite pride he takes in all jobs he handles.  There was no pressure, hard sell or added stress.  Should you have a question, his office is staffed with knowledgeable people and a return call is always placed. His crews were polite and there was always an adherence to time, neatness and a faultless alignment with the job description.

Do yourself a large favor should you be in the market for these services and call him. I am not someone who writes to this extent unless I felt compelled by wonderful business acumen and a company that deserves the accolades it receives.

I cannot say enough about how good Peter and his team were. He arrived promptly to give us an estimate and worked within our budget. He began the job on the day he said he would. He and his crew showed up promptly every day. The work they did was truly professional, and so were their worth ethics. Each day, they cleaned up at the end of the work day.

Our patio is beautiful, as well as the matching walkway. All repair work was done in the same professional manner as the major work. We could not be more pleased.

We will certainly use Peter for any future work we need and would recommend him without hesitation to anyone.

    Thanks, Peter!

    GENERAL BRICK DESIGNS
Mr. Costanzo and his crew came at 8:30 AM as promised. He walked around to each site where work was to be done with his crew. When the work was completed Mr. Costanzo went to each location to make sure that the work met his standards. He finished the cement work on the steps at the side entrance. All the debris was removed from the steps and driveway areas.
I was impressed with Mr. Costanzo's knowledge of masonry. His crew did an excellent job.  I will use his firm for any brick repair
work to be done in the future.  Mr. Costanzo also looked at our archway brickwork and suggested that we look to see if any changes occur after this winter.

There were a couple of mistakes that I saw but nothing that anyone else who looked at the patio would notice. There was a boot print in the coloring of the patio. I would use them again in the future if needed.
