What Does a Child Psychiatrist Do?

Psychiatry reviews in Buffalo

  • D
    Suburban Psychiatric Associates
This has happened to me twice -- once at the Amherst office and one in Hamburg. In each case, I was receiving therapy from a licensed clinical social worker, as they have very few actual psychologists. I have an out-of-town psychiatrist I have seen (via Skype) for more than 7 years, and am very satisfied with his expertise and care for me. He has repeatedly offered to speak with a Suburban therapist to coordinate care, but he has never received a call or email from any of them.
I was repeatedly told that it would be better for me to use one of their psychiatrists (average wait for first appointment is several months, other than waiting, your only other option is a nurse practitioner, who can prescribe meds but has no higher psych training), but I told them I wanted to stay with the one I had. In BOTH cases, I soon received a letter terminating my therapy because of my alleged "failure to maintain a therapeutic relationship." Neither of my two therapists had the "courage" or common courtesy to call and tell me this -- I learned about it from a form letter.
This is nothing more than a naked money grab by these people, and I have since heard of MANY similar incidents from friends who knows them VERY well and have had to surrender to their game. I finally agreed to see one of their psychiatrists, who took me off all the meds I was on and changed it to one of the many meds you see advertised on TV as the latest "cure for everything." I had horrible side effects immediately and could not reach their psychiatrist by phone or email. Then I was told to stop by and pick up a refill -- which turned out to be the wrong medicine. Again, I could not reach their doctor by phone or email.
I went back to my out-of-town psychiatrist and Suburban soon concluded that I had violated some unwritten rule and I was tossed out of therapy while I was in very bad shape and very depressed.
It was an awful experience -- TWICE, one at each office -- and I would never go back there again. If you care about your mental health, you won't go near them.

    Madiha Mirza MD
She is extremely knowledgeable about the medicine and the science of the medicine. She stays up to date. She goes to conferences. She read the research. She is not especially conservative in how she prescribes medicine but she's not irresponsible. Her medical analogy is really impressive. She's doesn't spend very much time with you as a patient. Just like a little bit to know you but it's pretty quick in and out of her office. Sometimes you walk in to her office and she's still doing her files from the previous person and hasn't taken the time to look at your name before you're sitting in front of her and that could make you feel like a box or something. The ambiance of her office is horrible. I can't believe any psychiatric professional would have a waiting room that has a little boom box on the floor. They have signs everything in all capital letters.

I would highly recommend her. She is very knowledgeable about current medications and she works very well with children. The office is small but the staff is friendly. Vicki is above average while her staff is average. She is able to get us in. In the nature of what she does, it is not like you can make an appointment an hour or half an hour before. It is like, "I will talk to you until I need to." And so, once you are in there, it is okay but once you are waiting, it is not so great. We travel probably about 40 minutes to get to her office and we would go nowhere else.

My 17 year old daughter goes for and quot;counselingand quot; with Holly Burgos. Holly is very accommodating and tries her best to help my daughter. So far I believe she's helping her to understand her emotions and how to handle them.

Treatment was nothing more than pushing pills to already addicted patients. Prescribing meds to addicted patients with drug arrests for the same meds led to severe medical conditions leading to cardiac arrest.

She is wonderful. I have been seeing her for years and I can highly recommend her. For women, she would be a good choice. She is easy to talk to and she is responsive to women's needs. I don't think men would have a problem but I think she's especially good for women. I think she is pretty perfect. You can't get in there immediately but she sees people regularly. She's on a suburban street and it's pretty private. She has a one person staff who is not super friendly. I pay when I'm there and I have never been billed.

I have never have to wait very long in the office and she explains things really well so her communciation is great. She is very empathetic, understanding and knows her medications. I will use her again in the future.

It's great experience. He monitors the medication used to treat my depression and anxiety to make sure it's effective. I've noticed a difference. Psychiatrists won't be able to take all your problems away, but he's making them manageable.

    Tan, Dr. Alfonso R.
Arrogant, condescending, interruptive, rude, disrespectful.  No such thing as empathy here in this psychiatrist's office.  The only reason I stayed through his abusive manner was that I waited seven-eight weeks for the darned appointment and wanted that darned perscription, which wasn't the one that was recommended for me by his higher ups.

    Michael J Lynch MD
Dr. Lynch is very thorough and knowledgable.  He takes time to explain details about my illness and makes sure I understand him.  He takes more time with me than many other psychiatrists that I have had.  I would highly recommend him!
