Well & Water Pump Repair reviews in Brooklyn

    Quality 1st Basements
We used quality 1st on two occasions in the past year to address water in the basement of our brownstone. They first addressed the problem from the crawlspace - installed a sump pump, water guard trench, and cleanspace wall system (they also added support to the ceiling, which is the floor of a kitchen above). Their approach was sound, the cost was fair, and we were very happy with their service and the work itself. They then returned to address water coming in from the main basement area - we worked together on a reasonable approach that included adding a 2nd sump pump, a water guard trench and cleanspace wall system only where needed. This required a lot of coordination and communication with our plumber as well - all went smoothly, work was performed and cleaned up professionally. So far, so good! I am in construction myself and I reviewed their approach with other professionals including an engineer, and I have a lot of confidence in their products, their pricing, and their work.

I meant to write this review for a long time, since Eddie came.  He was very nice and friendly and knew his business very well. We saw other contractors who advised us a French drain for 25K and another contractor for 15K. Eddie advised us to waterproof from the outside as opposed to the inside (that makes total sense) and to install a humidifier for $1800.
We ended up not using Eddie's services and patched all possible holes where water could come in from the outside. Now our basment is dry. Thank you Eddie!

George was excellent with everything he did. He came with Alex, who is just as nice. When I first called George from Angie's List, I immediately felt comfortable talking to him. He was polite and pleasant and didn't rush me. Unlike many other contractors I've dealt with, George does not have a bad attitude. He says "thank you," "have a nice weekend" and things like that - very polite. Just from talking to him on the phone, I knew right there that he would be the one I would hire in the end.  I checked with DOB and DCA. Of course, George was fine with both of them.

Let me get to the point. George came with Alex on Saturday, 3/21/15, for a sub pump/water pump installation in my basement(well). He also fixed the concrete crack on my basement wall by using epoxy sealer. He patched and painted afterwards including tar caulking outside the house. In addition, he took care of a few other things for me such as toilet re-caulking, light fixture replacement, threshold installation(for hallway door). Not only was George quick, efficient, highly-organized and professional, he was also intelligent. One can always tell whether someone is intelligent by the way he does things. Because he is neat, clean and friendly himself, he would only hire assistants who are the same. Therefore, I am not surprised that Alex and the gentleman who came with George on Monday night (to finish up) were both friendly and pleasant. They were very careful. When Alex was here on Saturday, he always cleaned up after everything they did. He was always watching left and right, front and back to make sure he did not scratch anything as he carried the door to the balcony. He was very fast and he smiled from the beginning to the end. Needless to say, the gentleman who came on Monday night was just as careful and clean. My wife and I can't be any happier.

George: You have an extremely satisfied customer. Here's to a job well done. You deserve more than just 5 stars.

This was such a great experience. Jimmy and his crew were always on time, hard working, courteous, anwsered any and all of my concerns in length and they are fast, completing the job in just 5 days! They went above and beyond creating more work for themselves so the job came out perfect with no increase in the price. My basement that I thought was always going to be an unusable, dirty space is now beautiful, clean and water free! Anyone looking for that "honest, family run business" this is the place. I couldn't be happier.

They arrived promptly at 7:00am with a big enough crew and supplies needed to complete the job in one day.  Eddie the owner was on hand all day to oversee the crew.  They were all very professional, they began work immediately.  They covered everything in the basement in plastic so as to not get it dirty from the dust.  They moved very fast and when they came up on obstacles Eddie (who has 30 years experience) redesigned the plan on the spot to make it work.  They were finished earlier than I expected (around 3pm) and they took the time to clean everything up.  We had the system installed a day before the big rainstorm.  Normally our basement would be flooded, we checked all day not a single drop of water made it into our house.  We are so excited and pleased with the work done.   Eddie even called the next day to give my husband further instructions on what to look out for until the cement dried and settled.
They were amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I would recommend them to anyone.

Jimmy was professional and communicative throughout this entire job.  When he first came to give us a quote, we thought we needed a sump pump and a bunch of other expensive work.  He explained that we actually didn't need a bunch of the things we wanted.  He also warned us that some contractors might want to pour directly over our existing floor.  But it would not hold properly and it would crack.  Jimmy and his crew were on time every day they worked here.  THey arrived at 8am, when they said they would.  On the day the concrete truck was scheduled to come, they got here extra early and set up so that when the concrete arrived they were ready to go.  They were very prepared and professional.  We would totally work with Jimmy + his people again.

I am very, very happy with the work and professionalism of Eddie and his crew.  They came when they said they would come, they did what they said they would do, and they cleaned up afterwards.Eddie was easy to reach and to communicate with.
At first I had asked Eddie for his take on our water leak and mold problem.  I had been receiving conflicting reports on the severity of each problem, from different subcontractors.  Eddie said that neither the water leak nor the mold problem were severe.   Eddie explained that the traditional approach of excavating outside and around the foundation walls, and waterproofing from the exterior would be risky, since buildings like mine risked having the foundation buckle if the dirt were all removed.  Nobody else had raised that concern, and I was happy to hear a cautious word on the matter.
Eddie said that the only way to go - even though it was a bit overkill - was to put in a French drain, and to cover the interior walls with waterproof mortar.  This work was a huge, huge job, I later saw.
For the few months after the work was done, I was wondering why we hadn't discussed possibly doing the job piece-meal, first covering the walls with mortar, and seeing how that worked out, and only doing the French Drain afterwards, if it were critical.  (Maybe there is an easy answer to this, but we hadn't discussed it, and I was wondering if we had done too big a project from the start.)  However, when Eddie came to check out some moist spots after a few months, he pointed out to me that the French Drain indeed had been functioning, pumping out water that leaked in.  So, my doubts about the necessity of such a big project were put to rest.
Several weeks after the work was done, I spoke to Eddie and asked him about spots in the mortar that seemed still moist.  He said that it takes a while to fully dry, but that he would come and have a look if it didn't dry out fully in a few weeks.I called him again several weeks later, to report that the moist spots remained, and he made an appointment to check it out.  When he came in and saw what I was describing, he said "I am not happy with the way this looks.  I will have my guys come and put a damp-proofing coat over it." And then he scheduled the work and it got done in a half of a day.  Same punctual schedule, same easy-to-reach manner, same clean-up afterwards.  Very professional.  Very pleasant to deal with.
In short, as a manager of two properties, I have two lists.  One list is of subcontractors that I dislike working with, and will try to avoid.  That list is quite long.  My short list is of subcontractors with whom I enjoy working.  E+M is near the top of my short list.  In fact, I just recently tried to educate an acquaintance of mine who has done work for me, but whose customer service is lousy, by comparing his service to that of Eddie at E+M!

We had worked unsuccessfully with three contractors before him, who either were unable or unwilling to do the work; one also gave us an estimate of $3500 to "explore the problem".

The challenge was in finding where the existing dry well was, which ultimately required camera work.  Eddie brought his crew out 3 different times to assess the situation and to do exploratory digging, without charging a dime.  And every time, they put the backyard back together again neatly and were careful not to track through the house.

Throughout this process, he was extremely professional and communicated well--e.g., always calling before hand to remind us he was coming; always calling afterward to see if we had any questions/concerns.  In our 3 years in our current home, we have had many issues and have worked with many different people.  Eddie from E&M gave us our best home improvement experience, by far.

They showed me the problems and we realized the pump needed replaced.  They completed the job promptly and in a day.  It was not the cheapest but they did disclosed the price upfront.  They did a superb job.  They were very conscientious.  They communicated well, they were conscientious, and they knew what they were doing.  I was very pleased with their services.

Our house is 90 years old and the basement is showing its age.  The outside staircase leading into our basement has a tendency to leak during heavy rainstorms resulting in minor flooding from time to time.  We lived with this for over 20 years and never experienced any significant losses - it was just a nuisance.  More recently, one of the cracks in our foundation (we have several) started to dampen during rainstorms.  We decided to address both issues together.

We found Quality 1st Basement Systems on Angie's List.  The sales rep looked over the situation and recommended an inside underground drain and sump pump system for the staircase and a flexible patch for the foundation.  He was able to sketch out the work on his PC and provide me with an estimate on the spot.  We decided to try this approach instead of digging up the entire foundation and waterproofing from the outside.  (One contractor wanted $20,000 for this type of work.)

We signed the contract and scheduled the work.  The installation crew arrived on time and completed the job very efficiently and very neatly.  The results have been very good.  After the wettest August in the history of NYC (we live in Brooklyn) and hurricane Irene, we have had no flooding or leakage from the repaired crack.

There was one misunderstanding during this transaction.  I was informed when signing the contract that the sump pump would have to be hooked up to the sewage system by a qualified NY plumber.  Quality 1st Basement Systems could not do this type of work.  I was fine with that, but after the installation I reviewed the sump pump manual and learned that it was against code to hook up a sump pump to the sewage system.  Opps!  I did some research and learned how to connect PVC drain pipes to the sump pump.  I drilled a hole through the foundation and connected the necessary pipes to drain it outside - the only acceptable approach.  I never brought this to the attention of Quality 1st Basement Systems and ended up saving a lot of money by doing this part of the work myself.  My recommendation is that anyone considering installing a sump pump make sure they know where it will drain and work that out in advance with the installer.

Quality 1st Basement Systems has innovative solutions for damp basement issues and are a definitely worth checking out.
