    Nahmias, Dr. Jeffrey S
I was referred to Dr. Nahmias for a sleep study around 2004. From that first contact he was engaging, attentive, thorough, patient, communicative, and reassuring. He took the time to listen to my concerns, answered all my questions, was clear in his communications, and made sure I knew step-by-step what was going to happen. I have been following up with him monthly thereafter for about the last six years. Having an appointment with Dr. Nahmias is like injecting an effervescent ray of sunshine into my day. He is peppy, perky, and possibly over-caffeinated, and he makes me laugh every time I go to see him. How he manages to combine such a fun personality and sense of humor with unceasing professionalism is still something of a mystery to me, but I am ever so grateful for it. Even though my visits are fairly routine at this point, he continues to take time out to answer any questions I may have from month to month. He also takes the time, when I need it, to help me conceptualize a plan for my long-term care as upcoming life changes may necessitate treatment and functioning changes. When we have made changes to my medication regimen, he has reviewed all my options with me, and was responsive within the hour when I found a particular new medication to be ineffective. That responsiveness allowed me to make adjustments and move forward with minimal disruption to my functioning or even my day. He is usually punctual to within 5 minutes with his appointment times, and office staff are consistently helpful and accomodating. Millburn is a warmer and more traditional office environment; the Newark Beth location brings with it the sterily environment and inconveniences of hospital parking and navigation, but it is really a very minor thing that is easily mastered. When I first started seeing Nahmias, I was living in Elizabeth, just a few miles from either office in Millburn or at Newark Beth. I moved to the Toms River area four years ago and just recently moved even further south. Every month I drive an hour and fifteen minutes for my appointment, and though there are sleep specialists in my area I refuse to switch to anyone else. I've told him he is not allowed to retire. ;-) A really good doctor is hard to find. Nahmias is a keeper.

I hadn't slept well in 2.5 years. I came home and would try and try to sleep. I went to my regular physician and he was unsure if I should go to a sleep doctor. I went to Dr. Klapholz, he was amazing. He understood how sleep deprived I really was. He diagnosed me with sleep apnea severely. He tried his absolite best. I was so sleep deprived and I called and left a message with his office. I was adamant in speaking with him. He called me back PERSONALLY. I was so angry and sleep deprived and anxious. He truly understood what was wrong with me. He calmed me down and told me to come in on that Monday, I tried to apologize and he encouraged me that no apology was necessary. I sleep so well now! He was compassionate and extremely knowledgeable. He is a saint!

I have tremendous difficulty falling asleep and was sure that this would be a horrific experience, since I had no experience with this sort of thing. I was picked up at the 1st floor registration desk and escorted upstairs to the Sleep Center by Ashraf Guirguis, who stayed with me throughout the test. I was shocked when I was led to what appeared to be a luxury hotel room. Every effort was made to ensure as much comfort as possible: tastefully understated decorated room, excellent bed nicely made up with quality fabrics, reclining easy chair next to the bed, television, dimmer switch on lighting, closet for belongings, requisite observational camera & speakers cleverly hidden from sight. An extremely thorough history of my health and sleeping habits/difficulties was taken in a friendly and easy-going manner (I can't remember whether it was Jim, Randy or Steve--sorry! I'd spoken with all 3 of them so many times on the phone and they were all so nice, I got them mixed up!). I was offered refreshments and frequently (but not to excess) asked if my needs were being taken care of. I was wired from head-to-toe, but of course this was unavoidable. I warned Ashraf that I was a difficult person upon awakening and he took my being so the following morning completely in stride. After detaching me and completing what was necessary in the morning, he escorted me all the way back to the main hospital exit. My husband needed a sleep study done after me, and the staff there all welcomed him as warmly as they had me. When I needed to return for a 2nd study, their schedule was extremely full and they had me on a high-priority wait-list: they encouraged me to call weekly to check back with them and were not at all bothered when I did just that and certainly gave me the impression that they were indeed looking for a spot for me and frequently discussed my schedule vs their availability. During the 2nd test, I was welcomed back and everyone seemed to remember me and my situation clearly, although they never took it for granted that I would remember procedures or explanations and went over everything again, to be sure. They made an uncomfortable procedure absolutely as comfortable as possible.

They watch you sleep to see if you have sleep apnea or other sleep disturbances.  The experience was good.  The staff was friendly, courteous, took care of your needs, and answered your questions.  I will use them in the future if needed.

    Sameen, Dr. Mohamed
Dr Sameen is a very kind physician who gives you his time and expertise. He goes out of his way to help and is flexible to your needs. Dr Sameen has been there for me at other times when I have been hospitalized for asthma. He has his clinic right at Mather Hospital. You walk out of his office and next door is a bedroom which is kind of surreal but that is where the sleep studies are done. The staff were very professional during the study and he and they helped custom fit the CPAP and mask which is critical. From the patient point of view, the fit of the CPAP and mask are the only thing that matters and Doc Sameen had the right stuff.

    Kass, Dr. Lewis J.
I really liked Dr. Kass. I just thought that he was really great about trying to find underlying things that we may not have thought of that could have been causing the sleep disturbance. He was very detailed. He wasn?t trying to make us snap judgment but was really trying to think about it. He was very thoughtful and I didn?t feel like he was just trying to rush us out of his office like other doctors do. He took my son and guided him with some exercises. He did followup and he was good about that. He didn?t diagnose my son but I was really happy with the attempt that he made. There was never really any treatment given.

    John T Mather Memorial Hospital
Unless you want to be billed inaccurrately and have your insirance provider billed for incorrect services stay away from this hospital. the billing department is such a nightmare. I. had breast cancer and this hospital made me sicker than i even am. i just settled with the hospital for 300 dollars more than i should have paid. here is what mather does, you go there have a procedure and given them your insurance and think everything is fine right. WRONG. What mather does is they bill your insurance company get paid and oops! they found additional charges after the fact! For one biopsy they billed my insurance company 15 times, they claimed they were not getting paid which is nonsense. mather kept changing the bill every single time. why? i never got a straight answer from the hospital, i asjed. for backup and what i got was a bill that had all my comments and1600.00 in Miscellaneous charges. And i have unitedhealth Care whcih is a oretty good insurance company. on one of my bills they billed. me for being in a room for a biopsy when. i was at work. Their billing smacks of fraud. Trust me unless you like getting ripped off do NOT go ,ather hospital unless you are very wealthy.
