    Portchester Connection
Being the daughter of a contractor and the wife of a chef, I vetted over 12 contractors. Several of them never called back with estimates, were not transparent with the services to be provided, or provided astronomical estimates under the guise that we were "located in Westchester". We were impressed as soon as we met Mike. Mike pointed out a few things as soon as he walked into our apartment for the estimate that other contractors never noticed. This demonstrated to us that Mike was well-equipped with the experience that made him a safe, knowledgeable, and honest contractor. Mike gave us a fair and reasonable estimate and was willing to respect our budget. We never felt as if Mike was trying to overcharge us. Even when we ran into unexpected hurtles, Mike always took the time to explain and offer options that were safe and in accordance with our budget. Mike listened to our preferences and offered professional suggestions to improve our vision. Thanks to Mike we finally have our open-concept, modern kitchen and dining room that we envisioned. Mike transformed our space into our dream come true!

    M.G. General Contracting
It went outstanding! I'll be using them again! You should too! The guys were on time everyday, quoted prices that ended up being spot on, explained and detailed what needed to be done and the length of time it would take, were neat and clean and provided an outstanding outcome. My basement was dated and they upgraded with new windows, doors, p. aint, drywall and trim work. My bathroom needed updated cabinetry and replacement of fixtures and flooring and my family room needed some drywall replacement and ceiling work from a leak with refinishing of our hardwood floors. Place looked so good while they did it, I asked for an extra project to be completed ( new windows in the room) that was accomplished perfectly and for the cost quoted. They kept the mess to a minimum, cleaned up every day at the conclusion of it and made my home look brand new.

    Update: 1/8/16
I have really struggled in decided in whether to post an update but since my kitchen isn't a year old.... During the install, I noticed that the workers had ripped the freezer door off my brand new french door refrigerator. I did tell Jeff this but he offer any solution. What I didn't notice until recently was they bent the hinge on one of the french doors which has been causing my fridge to fill with condensation. So much of my food has been ruined. One of the hinges has come off a cabinet. There a few other items that i have issues. I still love my kitchen but disappointed in the damage to my fridge and the lack of attention to detail on some items.

Overall I really love my kitchen. I met with Jeff in November 2014 to discuss options to add additional counter space to my single sided galley kitchen. His idea was to build cabinets to the ceiling and then build a 12" custom cabinet (with sliding doors). During the consultation, I decided that I also wanted built-in put in my living room, which he was able to do as well. The final plan was to remove existing cabinets, paint, replace floor, put in new base and upper cabinets, and custom cabinet  with quartz countertops.
Like some others have said, sometimes communication from Jeff can be lacking but in the end most things worked out. As for timing I was told it would take 5 days but it ended up being just over 2 weeks as there was some issue with cabinet doors. The reason I selected JR Laminators because I felt like Jeff wasn't try to oversell anything and he just wanted me to be happy with my new kitchen.

    My Home Tile Kitchen Bath
The person in charge (Gem is his name) had the WORST actitud I have ever seeing in customer service.  I ask his name and he told me "I haven't told you my name, you won't recognize my name since it is from Turkish" kept talking to end with "and you never have being in Turkish or will go, so, you don't need to know my name"... it is funny that I actually had being in Turkish twice and told him.  Then he took 10 minutes to explain his name belong to the most-mayor-best- (etc) Turkish king ever so he should be treated as a king himself (???!!!).  After I refuse his first suggestion and ask him to quo a different one, he went really crazy, and ask me if I will buy him if he make the quotation and if I have the 1500 to make the purchase!!!
I just got out with a big headache from his actitud.  What an waste of time and pace of mind. I will really need to take the rest of the day off to survive this nonsense.  I just can say STAY AWAY FROM THIS PERSON.

    SJS Home Improvements

I purchased my coop apartment knowing it was in need of some major updating.

I interviewed several contractors before deciding on SJS.  It was a good decision.

The work was done well, and on time.

Steve was incredibly responsive, and he and his crew were a real pleasure to work with.

    DEANE INC
Terry Scarborough was incredibly helpful in designing our kitchen. She had many good ideas, listened carefully to our preferences, worked and reworked the design. She was very knowledgeable, had a great design sense balanced with the practical and functional issues. We ultimately did not go with her proposal as the cost was just too high. Nonetheless, we appreciated her high quality service and know that if you can afford the very best (or at least better than we can afford), then Terry is the right designer for you.

    CHAMPION HOME REMODELING
You offered a custom design consultation at an attractive price. That was exactly what we needed to help  make a decision and proceed with cabinet choices and possible future remodel.
Dan Vitulli of Champion Home remodeling  called me within a couple of days as you promised, to schedule a visit.  He asked for my wish list, and an idea of what I wanted and needed. He offered his professional suggestions and started to measure.  A week later he arrived with plans in hand and concrete suggestions.  There were aerial views, cabinet layouts and sizes, etc.
I could not be more pleased and highly recommend him.  He listens carefully then executes.

TRI COUNTY BUILDING SVC & DEV
Richard, the owner of this business, showed up on time for our appointment. He was very pleasant and professional, and appeared to be very knowledgeable. We met him at an earlier stage of the project planning and he had many suggestions and tips to share with us. It was as if we were getting a free consultation! I was impressed with how much time he spent with us in the first meeting -- he made us feel that we were important clients and that wasn't a bad feeling at all.

In that first meeting, we told him what we were thinking of doing, which included gutting all the existing cabinetry, backsplash, floors, doors, etc. We asked him for a rough estimate on the spot and he mentioned a figure, which later turned out to be the price just for demolishing and installing cabinets. If we knew then that their price doesn't match our budget, we would have moved on to find another contractor. Since we thought that Richard was a nice guy and the price seems to be good not realizing our "misunderstanding" of what the price included, we had two more meetings. We don't have complaints about those meetings, as they helped us shape the final design for the new kitchen. During this process, we asked him several times for a realistic estimate based on the changing scope of the job. He seemed to be postponing talking about the price. We were starting to feel that the project was starting to get a little too big. Eventually, after a month and a half later since the first meeting, he gave us a quote for the job which was more than double the initial figure. Even with all the nice ideas made by Richard that will undoubtedly make the kitchen look beautiful and function well, his price was just too high.

I don't want the readers to think that our experience with this company was bad -- Richard was trying to be helpful and was generous with his time spent with us along the way. His price is high because his main clientele is high-end houses perhaps. The only minus was that we think he should have been clear about the price earlier in the process, or whenever we asked to talk about it. He maintained his pleasantness all the way till the end, though -- even after he figured that we weren't going to hire him, he wished us well with our project. We may consider hiring his company in the future if we have a bigger budget.

    The Kuken
We selected The Kuken for our (very simple) Kitchen and Powder Room updates because they were the lowest bidder. The design was nice, though could never seem to arrive at our house less than 3 hours late. We met with the owner: Mike Park, five times to finalize the details before our custom cabinets went into production. The first attempt to install (I took a day off for this) was pretty disappointing: the designer never showed, the dimensions were wrong, the mirror was missing, and there were fascia and trim pieces that apparently were never ordered. The designer came by a few days later and confirmed that she'd written down the wrong measurements on the order. The owner and the designer said they'd revise the order with the correct dimensions and would be sure to include the missing pieces. The second attempt to install (I took another day off for this) was a complete disaster: the designer never showed, a different installer arrived using the OLD plan/measurements, which meant the doors were still the wrong size, the fascia and trim pieces were still missing, the mirror arrived but it was also the wrong size and the hardware was wrong. I called the owner and designer twice (no answer) and left VM messages and sent an email outlining the issues. They never called me back. We heard from the Kuken a few weeks later and he wanted to come by again to take more measurements. At this point, we had had enough of their incompetence and lack of communication and I couldn't take any more days off of work. We wrote a letter to them requesting a partial refund, considering I took days off of work and they were still trying to work out the issues with the cabinets. Meanwhile, we asked for a Saturday installation for the third attempt, which was done without any significant issues. Now that the work is complete (12 weeks after production was complete), we heard back from the Kuken owner regarding our letter and he said a refund was out of the question because "tweaking" the product is part of their installation process. I've never seen a contractor with such abysmal customer service. This wasn't a case of a product needing to be "tweaked", this was a clear lack of attention, communication and Quality Control. We'll be telling everyone we know to avoid The Kuken - it's not worth the time, money or frustration.

    JUSTIN JAMES WOODWORKING
The cabinets he made blend in perfectly and are actually more functional and designed better than those we were matching. Our kitchen works much better now and it wasn't a major reconstruction. He's a very nice person to work with too. Highly recommended.
