How to Make Kitchen Appliances Last Longer

    Sears Appliance Repair
Technician did check, said it needed a thermostat and that he would order it. Never heard from him or the repair service after that. I called Sears. They said they would send a technician. I told them one had already been here and no repair was done. Since it was less than two weeks from when I received the appliance, customer service replaced it.

    All Boro Appliance Repair
The company said that my Bosch dishwasher needed a new control board. I paid $265 for the repair, which did not correct the issue. I called to make a follow-up appointment and waited all day and the company did not show or respond to phone calls. The company sent another repairman who said that he would call Bosch to figure out what the problem might be. I never heard back and the dishwasher has now been out of commission for a month. I called Bosch and got the name of a recommended repair service company. It was not the control board but another part that had broken. I've called All Boro Appliance Service Center for a refund and cannot get someone on the phone.

    Steve's Appliance Repair
Very precise and efficient. Told me on phone the price for visit that would go toward the work if done. Came and located problem immediately and gave me estimate. Very reasonable. He had the replacement piece in his van, so fixed the problem in a matter of minutes. Very efficient. All the while, he was pleasant, very friendly, courteous, and clean. Couldn't be happier. Will definitely recommend.

    Steve's Appliance Repair
I called Steve and we arranged to meet on Sunday, January 19th in the morning. He arrived on time. I asked him to see if a refrigerator in an apartment that I had purchased was able to be repaired. It seemed like the compressor was gone. He attempted to change a relay switch. It worked for a few minutes and died. The unit was not fixable. He helped me arrange to purchase a new one with a great price. It will be delivered and the old one removed in a day. Steve was very knowledgeable and courteous. I will definitely recommend him for all appliance needs. His fees were reasonable and surprises.

Let me start by listing the things that I really appreciated about Steve
    • Follow up
    • Punctuality
    • Efficiency with regard to time and effort
    • Thoroughness

I called Steve around the second week of  August to repair my dishwasher which had water pooled at the bottom.  I casually asked if he would also look at my washing machine which kept "walking" and which had problems with the hot water supply.  This washing machine is old and was given to me by a former tenant.  I had already begun shopping for a new machine and expected that Steve would tell me that this was a junker.
    Follow Up
Initially Steve told me that he was busy and could not get to my place for about five days.  I had the same response from four other appliance service people.  However, it was only Steve who called me on Friday evening to tell me that he could come on Saturday if I still needed him to do so.  I was very happy to hear this since I had had no luck getting anyone else.
In the meantime, the work on my wood floors had begun, so I could not take up Steve's offer immediately.  What astonished me was that Steve called back five times over the next ten days to find out if the floor was done and if he could take a look at the machine.  I never expected this kind of follow up.  When I remarked on this, his response was, that this was an unfinished task on his to do list and he would not feel right until the job was done - by himself or someone else.
Steve gave me a call when he was ten minutes away and arrived before the time that he had stated.  This was important because the apartment was now being painted and I was needed notice to get the place ready.

Efficiency with regard to time and effort

Steve looked at the dishwasher and determined that the motor was not  functioning.  He said that he had a replacement for the motor in his upstate residence and that he would get it for me, if I did not mind a used part.  Of course, it would be significantly cheaper.  He will be fitting that motor this week.
We then went on to the washing machine.  Steve told me that this was one of the last machines made that did not have computerized parts and therefore would be easy to repair. He took the machine apart, put in the water mixer valve and then noticed that the old hoses looked like they were wearing out.  He offered to replace them with new steel clad hoses for no charge.  In fact, I insisted on paying him half of what he paid for the hoses.
All of this took less than 15 minutes.  Even as he gave me advice on the positioning of the drain pipe and the optimum load levels, Steve kept working.  He was very happy to have me around watching him work and explained what he was doing at every step.  This meant a lot to me, as a woman, because I get very tired of people who assume that women have no interest in anything mechanical and are unable to deal with such things!
My final criterion for evaluation is in some ways the most important one.  I enjoy being around people who enjoy their work because they never leave things unfinished or shoddy.  Steve falls in this category.
Even though he did not work on the dishwasher that day, Steve made a point of getting the wet vac from his truck and cleaning out the water that was pooled in the dishwasher so that I would not have stinky water in the kitchen.
The washing machine was put together, with replacement screws for those missing.  Steve moved it back into place, showed me how to reset the machine to prevent it from "walking", how to adjust loads to lessen the stress on the machine.  None of this was absolutely necessary but all of this showed me the respect that Steve had for labor and the love he has for the machines.  This is what makes a fine workman.  Thank you Steve

My old GE dishwasher wasn't draining properly.   Steve took a look at it, and said it would be best to just replace it.  He bought a new GE dishwasher and delivered it to my apartment.   It wasn't an easy job to install it, given some electrical and plumbing challenges, but Steve was resourceful and creative, and was able to set me up.    New dishwasher looks and works great.
Steve is forthright and honest, and he tells you exactly what is going on.  He showed me all the technical aspects of what he did while installing the unit, and he made sure I understood everything.  He is punctual, and he returns calls promptly.  He is easy to work with and easy to talk to.   I highly recommend him.

I have two ovens that had stopped working and on one, two burners were not lighting. Steve checked them, determined the causes of the problems, cleaned out the burners and their ignitions and installed new oven ignitions. He was quick, personable, knowledgeable and efficient. He saved me a lot of money and aggravation. I'd happily use his services again.
