Our back yard slopes downhill. There is a flat section near the house that was terraced: 2.5 foot retaining wall built out of railroad ties, and then flat stones laid on top of those for a short set of stairs leading down to next level. All of that was deteriorating, stones were loose, couldn't safely walk down much less haul the lawnmower down. Northern Scapes dug out the whole area, built a gravel base, then concrete blocks, then nice bluestone steps. That was two years ago: the steps are extremely solid, I expect them to outlive me. And attractive. It took a bit of time to get on their schedule. But the person who came out to do the estimate was punctual and professional, and the workers who spent two days on this project were pleasant young men who tidied up well.

A Great Choice Lawn Care & Landscaping LLC
They did the French drain. They started leveling and Rick removal, the rock hounder broke. They needed me to remove my pool so I drained it and it took longer then expected. So the company moved in to the next job and said would come back. They never came back. So I called and the owner was full of excuses and super rude. A month later I called over and over and left messages at least 6 times with no response. Finally we decided to contact our credit card company to get money back since the job was not completed. I needed to go to the company to get a contract and I told the office ladies I'd like to speak to the owner and that he never returned my calls. He finally called me a few days later and said he was not coming back. Claimed that the last time we spoke I hung up on him. Which never happened. Why would I hang up on someone who is supposed to be doing work on my yard? Doesn't make sense. They were informed that I was having a deck built, they dug out a spot for my in ground trampoline where my deck was supposed to go. And the owner threatened to charge me more for their waisted time. Even though I informed them a deck would be put there. He was terrible to me. I hope others don't get treated the way I did. I asked if he would finish and he said no. He doesn't want me to treat his workers poorly so he wouldn't let them come back. But it wasn't the workers who were bad to me. Just the owner. I would not be rude to them for coming and finishing a job. My yard is now a mess. The grass I had is tore up and there are drains drug through the yard that aren't supposed to be there. We went all summer with no pool because they made us take it down. Such a terrible company

Joseph Smith did exactly what we discussed and he left my property looking the same way it was before he did any work. You could't really tell any digging was done. Very pleased with the work that was performed. Joe is very hard working and thorough I would highly recommend him.

So far so good - the work was just completed and sealed and is a big improvement from the prior condition. Rob Peretore performed the estimate last fall. Sal Peretore and his employee Jason performed the work this April, once the weather cooperated. Sal was in regular communication with me and worked with me to address all issues and changes throughout, which I greatly appreciated.

    Craig Dunlap Excavating
He's a pretty friendly guy and does good work. Very professional. Did a really good job with the top soil, it's a very tricky placement. I haven't had a drop of water in my basement since he put that top soil down.

    Rick's Tree & Shrub Service
I called up the tree removal service; it's only like a half a mile from here. The tree was so high it was getting leaves all over the roof and branches were getting on the roof and animals were getting in the ceiling. I had like mouse infestations in here. So the first thing I did, I think it was early on in the Spring, I had the tree removed. They did really good and they were the cheapest too. They were only here like three hours but they wanted like four hundred bucks but they had to do a lot of things. They had to grind up the tree, so it took a while. They start at the top and just keep whittling it down until it's gone. They do good work. They even let me pay with a credit card although he complained a little bit about the credit card. He says they take 2% out of it or something, so he lost ten bucks or something; I forget what all. It wasn't a serious issue but most people take credit cards. Not everybody takes credit cards. These other people I paid with a check because of that fact. It was quick though. He was leaving and I just had a credit card in my pocket, and gave it to him and he left quick, because he was on his way out to another job. So I didn't have to monkey around, so he took the credit card. Yeah, he did good work. I have no complaints. Pretty nice guy, pretty good.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to replace the shrubs so I asked Joe for suggestions. He suggested Blue Stone instead of concrete (my suggestion). Now I have a beautiful Blue Stone patio. He also covered my porch with trex. It is great! I intend to hire him for any other project I need done.

I signed the contract the same day, and Joe was able to have the site PERFECT for the event. He was very attentive and stopped back many times to make sure that the grass was ready. We then hired him to do several more projects pertaining to the Wedding and all of them were perfectly done. I would HIGHLY recommend Modernscapes!!

From the first moment I engaged Chris Negley and his team at Elegant Estates to today, this firm has been simply outstanding to work with. They were able to help me turn the outside of a property I bought five years ago into an oasis where my family loves to spend time.  What was an awkward multi-level yard with crumbling decades-old rock walls leading to the lower level is now a three tier terraced outdoor living area with gorgeous trees, lush plantings, a beautiful built-in grill, both dining and seating areas and a fire pit we love to use on those cool summer nights.  Low voltage lighting comes on in the evenings, lighting the area with ambiance.  The stairs are wide, easy to navigate and beautiful to look at as you are walking out from the house.  Simply gorgeous.

They did such a great job that we brought them back the following year to attack the crumbling concrete driveway in the front, and now I have a stunning water-permeable paver driveway that is not only awesome as the water from above us on the mountain no longer rushes across my lawn (having sunk into the gravel bed below the pavers) but is also a gorgeous look from the street.  They built planters and added lighting, and have sensor under the pavers that will be connected this year to turn on and heat the driveway when it snows - no more shoveling for me!

EE does a phenomenal job.  Chris listens, draws up plans that can be delivered in a single job or through multiple over the years, and his crew is great.  I trust them completely to do quality work, and to care more about doing what is right for us as a family than to make the most on a job.  I would turn to them time and again for work - they are just that good.  Thank you Chris, Tyler, John and team - you are outstanding.

I called three tree removal companies from the list, and Steve was the most prompt in getting me an estimate.  He also charged me about half the price of another highly recommended company.  I was the first call of the spring, and he rallied his help and equipment to take care of the tree, which had become so overgrown as to encroach on my neighbor's house as well as mine.  He and his crew took care of the job neatly and quickly.
