  • Rob was quick to set up an estimate. His pricing was very fair and he didn’t try to sell me on work I didn’t need. After the work began he kept us up to date on progress, finished on time and left the place clean. We have many more projects in mind and we are definitely gonna call Rob from A Painter Plus.

  • Please do not publish my address. You ca put Beacon, but that is all. UPDATE 06/29/2016 : He is still working on remodeling the bathroom. He has installed and cut the glass shower door and is amidst installing the windows on our porch. He did do an excellent job on the tile work in the bathroom. We have been working since the middle of April to get this project done.

  • It went poorly on so many levels.
John had some delays due to an injury and he also had a bigger project going on at the same time as our small project. We had already paid our 50 percent deposit.
His estimator mis-measured and the gutter was 2 feet short and it took my husband's insistence that he finish it.
Two of the four storm doors he installed he did OK, but kind of on the sloppy side. He didn't measure properly. The handles are off. On the front door, it's not centered and on the side door, the handle is high. He said that it needed to be that high to clear the inside knob. But it was still higher than it needed to be.
The other 2 doors, he actually hung in the wrong doorways. My husband told him clearly and he said he understood. They were 2 very different doors, both in expense and in style. We reluctantly paid him. They need to get changed out but now the hinges and swing are wrong. He also said that he put them where he did because he thought our dog might damage the door. We never asked him to consider our dog's play style. It didn't even come up in conversation.
He said that he would able to do the work in mid-January and we've not heard from him and have been waiting a month.
Upon further reflection, he is so inattentive and lax in his professionalism that we don't trust him to finish.

  • John painted the garage. He was able to advice on the use of primer and paint best for the garage. It was done nicely. Because he was very professional and cordial, I have hired him to do other jobs in the house and also referred him to my sister.  Very important: he did not leave a mess.

  • Ayron was terrific to work with.  He gave us an estimate that was half of what 2 other contractors gave us.  Though I know I'm supposed to pick the middle one, I didn't and I am very happy.  Whenever someone says that they want to 'do it right' I take that as we are going to do more than you want or need and charge for it.
Ayron was very straightforward.  His work was great and he is such a nice guy.  He stuck strictly to the budget, though the timeline was a bit off.  I didn't care as I wasn't in a huge hurry.  A lot of times small companies have to juggle jobs.  He came and finished both jobs in a week.  Very happy.  Will definitely hire him again.

  • I needed my attic gutted because the previous owner had installed drywall with no insulation behind it, also the basement carpet need to be removed to prepare for new flooring. I called Local Dad repairs and spoke to Terri, she was very helpful setting up an appointment with Jeff, the owner. He showed up on time and we went over all the projects I needed to get done. He gave me a lot of information about my house and the work he could do for me. Within a week I had a firm estimate and we agreed on a start date. The work started on time and finished early. Jeff got a building permit and met with the inspector for me. Everything was done to my satisfaction, the crew cleaned up both areas very well. I would like to thank Jeff, Terri and their crew for the outstanding work and I look forward to hiring them again.

  • It was excellent. he gentleman that came and did the work for me was knowledgeable, courteous, cleaned up after himself and he couldn't have done a better job. There was no additional charge on top of the big deal. He did it all by himself. I helped a little bit but it was definitely good. I like everything about him. Not a single bad thing to say. He was excellent the whole time. He came on time and everything. The fix price basically was $140 for four hours so price was excellent. I can't say enough good things about this guy. I would use him again with a heartbeat.

  • Jon evaluated the oven quickly, found the part on the repair clinic site, and came the day after it arrived to replace the igniter.
Quick, friendly, responsive, & easy to get ahold of.  Strongly recommend.

  • My partner and I recently bought a house that had already been through a remodel, but with work that left a lot to be desired. We had a long list of items that we wanted done by a professional - some tiny (like installing new towel bars or caulking a tub) and some large (like waterproofing a dirt basement or repairing the gutters). We reached out to several providers on Angie's List, but decided to go with Jeff of Local Dad Repairs.
Why? Well, first things first. You can't beat the name, right? Local Dad? It was like, awwwwww. That's sweet. If my dad was local I'd totally make him do the work. But he isn't. So the next best thing would have to be Jeff.
Seriously, I emailed my list to Jeff. He arrived on time one evening to walk through and give us his impressions of the work that needed to be and could be done. He was quick, knowledgeable, and suggested other future projects without being pushy (a couple of which we added to our list because they were such great ideas). He let us know what items on our worklist were unnecessary or could wait for a few months or a year. And then he gave us a quote for a reasonable hourly rate.
One thing really sealed the deal. When he came into the basement, he looked at the supports and suggested that we call in an engineer before doing any waterproofing or digging. Although we didn't follow that advice to the letter, he was the only provider who looked past our immediate requests and made recommendations that weren't just upsells for him, but that clearly took into consideration the long-term investment that we had made in the home. It was as though he actually cared.
If he doesn't really care, he fakes it REALLY well.
We engaged Jeff for two separate days - the first day was for some general stuff that he did (with a helper) over the course of a few hours and they were great, did a lot, cleaned up after themselves, blah blah blah. You've seen this in the other reviews.  But he also left a couple of projects unfinished. Boo, right? No. He stopped one project at the point where he recognized a potential problem that would need the attention of a master electrician (required according to the codes in this town). He stopped another at the point where a better idea for completing the project became clear. Since we planned on having Jeff back for a second day (which hasn't happened yet, but will this weekend!), the unfinished work was not a problem. I'd much rather have things done right and well.
The second day was gutter day. And this was out of control. In a good way. Seriously, IF YOU NEED WORK DONE ON YOUR GUTTERS, CALL LOCAL DAD. The team Jeff brought in was in and out in a matter of a couple of hours - to remove and replace all of the gutters and downspouts on a house. And the price could not be beat. And the gutters look amazing.  And they work like a dream. We had a massive rainstorm the day after the gutters were installed, and - with the exception of one tiny spot that Jeff is going to come back to fix - worked perfectly. The foundation of my house was dry, even though the world was soggy.
So all of the work he's done so far has been laudable.
One thing - He's busy right now. So if you want him, you'd better call him NOW.
Another thing - Communication between visits is occasionally imperfect (some delays in responses, and some details get missed, etc.), so you may need to follow up and/or nudge.  Or maybe not.
Have you read this far and not called Local Dad Repairs yet? What are you waiting for?

    - Virginia B.
  • I've had several visitors comment on how good the cabinets look.  They look perfect.  He's pretty much a perfectionist.  I think he is vastly under-valuing his work.  He's too cheap.
