I’ve been going to him for 7 or 8 years. I keep going back to him because of his good service and have friendly people. They are always very friendly and very helpful. They do a thorough job and they know what they are doing.

Cleaning went well.  After the cleaning I was told that I needed scaling and root planing because the pockets on some teeth were now measuring 4 or 5 - much worse than my last visit 6 months ago.  I was told that I had bone loss and could eventually lose my teeth - all this without a complete set of xrays being taken.  They wanted me to pay a deposit for this treatment on the spot.  I refused.  I have been going to Beacon Dental for about 3 years.  Before that I had gone to a dentist in NYC for about 20 years.  I have had occasional cavities.  At Beacon Dental, I was told so many times that I needed several fillings and was also nagged into having a fluoride treatment that I didn't want or need.  I began to wonder if the fillings were necessary.  Two days after my cleaning I went to another Dentist for a second opinion (Jonathan Kim in Fishkill).  He took a full set of x-rays and said that I did not need scaling and root planing, my bone loss was minor and my gums were fine.  I will not be going back to Beacon Dental ever again.

I will not return to this dentist - too many issues in the last 12 months have convinced me that this practice is more concerned with collecting my money than with providing me with high quality dental work.

    UPDATE 8/30/12
My sister and her family have also been using this practice for years. Recently, my sister began going over the Explanation of Benefits provided to her by her insurance company. There were discrepancies between the services provided and what was billed for. She questioned the administrative staff repeatedly only to be told that she was wrong (my sister is also a qualified ICD-9 Medical Billing admin.) Knowing that she was NOT wrong, she delved deeper and discovered that the office was billing for procedures that she had been told were NOT COVERED by her insurance - AFTER SHE HAD PAID CASH for these procedures. Neither I, nor my family (a total of 9 patients) will ever return to this practice.

I agree with other reviews which say they push services on you.  They convinced me that I should change most of my old fillings because they were deteriorating.  I now think that advice was suspect.  None of the fillings were causing me any pain or problems.  After they replaced a filling in a wisdom tooth, I started to feel pain in that tooth after a few weeks.  When I had them check it out, I was told the filing was too close to the nerve.  The tooth needed a root canal or it had to be removed.  The root canal was going to cost me $670.  I didn't have any pain before they replaced the filing!  Why should I have to pay when their work messed it up?  When I went to set the appt, I was told I would have to pay 50% up front before they would schedule it - a new policy.  I have spent over $1000 out of pocke there in the last year always paying right at the appointment.  That doesn't count what my insurance company paid. Suddenly I have to pre-pay?  It made no sense to me.  I had the money to pay it but I find the policy offensive and clearly indicative there their concern is for money not patient health.

There office manager badgered me for 10 - 15 min in her office trying to convince me that they had to institute the down payment policy because of missed appointments.  (Other people's missed appointments.  Not mine.)  I wasn't surprised at her obnoxiously condescending tone because she and the receptionists are always very brusque.  I was just shocked that she never offered to waive the policy even though I told her I would go to a different dentist.  They have made a lot of money off of me in the last year and I was treated like any new patient without insurance.

The office staff is great and the doctor is very straightforward, gentle and clear. I have never had a problem getting an appointment and they are very punctual. The office is lovely and I will use her again in the future.

There's noting "wrong" with the practice, its just that it feels more like a business than a medical institution.
They are very aggressive on selling you "services" strarting from flouride tratment to root canal and everything in between. And this is when you totally say no to cosmetic dentistery, otherwise I'm sure they will have even more options for you. I'm not sure if i really needed half the things I got done and they're not finished yet...
My husband refuses to go back. He had an interesting experience though- the very chatty assistant
who did his cleaning became very morose when he politely turned down getting braces, or whitening or flouride.....or anything! Funny enough he has perfect teeth with no issues!!!
On the flip side i will say the admin staff is friendly and prompt and so are the doctors. However, after your first appointment with the primary doctor, Dr Wong, you never see her after the first 2 visits.
Its hard to find good dentists-how do you really know? Hence my joining Angies list :-)

They are very professional, I never have to wait long, they are pretty inexpensive, and my teeth have never felt better. They are friendly and they are a pleasure to do business. I feel comfortable with them and I don?t feel like they are out to get my money. They accept most insurance and they have great hours; they are open until 8 PM and they are open on Saturdays. They even sent a Christmas present of a $20 credit to me and my husband.

They almost assault you with a list of procedures and try to scare you telling you you will lose all of your teeth if you don't do what they say. I just don't trust them. My fiance went around the same time as I but I think they already billed his insurance company before doing any work, so hopefully he also will be able to get out of it. Well, looks like they're going to try to get out of reimbursing him even though they did no work on him. Watch out for these people! they are greedy and have no regard for your welfare
