    Top Cat Chimney Sweep
We had a large squirrel nest in our chimney. Brian came out to take a look and said that although it was large and difficult he could remove it. He did so over the course of a few weeks. It was difficult and messy but he got it done with basic sweeping tools and a buddy. during this time period he recommended doing repairs to the chimney because we had loose bricks that were holding the current cap/mesh solution on. The situation was crumbling. He also recommended a re-pointing job and a new cap. re-pointing was a sorry job if you ask me, the top edge of the chimney remained unsound as I found out later. The chimney cap did not cover the opening and they cut scrap of metal mesh to cover the space. Water can still get into the chimney further degrading the cement. Squirrels can also get in. Furthermore, the cap is held in place by 3 tiny screws and a whole lot of smeared on construction adhesive caulk. Seriously. after they left I went up look and took pictures. I sent them to him and he said that they chimney was crumbling so they couldn't get any screws in very well and that the current solution would hold. He also said he had his buddy go up here and do the install. His buddy is not a chimney guy, just his buddy who was along for some extra cash. The actual chimney guy didn't do the install. While I'm not a chimney guy myself, I do know how things work, how things are built and how to do a number of installations. Along with the power of google and looking at my chimney job I see that these guys scammed the **** out of me and that I will be redoing this job myself soon, or finding a real professional to do it. 3 self tapping sheet metal screws barley even in the brick, large gaps between cap rim and chimney rim, unresolved cement work, adhesive caulk smeared all around the perimeter that will not last one freeze thaw season and is also so this it's not sticking to anything. it;s just a smeared mess. totally inappropriate material to hold on a large steel cap. I could literally pull the cap and top bricks off with one firm tug, tearing the whole thing away. I need it to stay put through the winter. I hope it does. I called many times to get Brian to resolve the thing, sometimes I got a call back with an excuse and a promise that he would come back to make it right. He eventually stopped calling back and I have a ridiculous $800 chimney repair that needs to be redone from scratch. A few times he left a message that he was going to come by but didn't know if I was home. The chimney is on the outside of the house, accessible by a ladder. You know? I'm not one to leave bad reviews unless things are really bad. This is as bad as I could have imagined. It's so much of a joke that I can't wait to show the real chimney guy I call to repair it. A real crap job by a sorry "company". I can't imagine what this guy was thinking. Plus, he only took cash or checks made out to cash. all in all, a really silly operation Overall the process took well over a month and is unresolved

Mike responded right away to my request to check the chimney and recommend repairs. We agreed that the chimney could not be saved and would have to come down. He had a few ideas about replacing it and one of these was to not replace it but close the wall and install a pellet stove for  much better heating. We took this option. In a few days we got our estimate which was all inclusive and reasonable for the work involved. Everything on the contract was easy to read and we had only one question which he immediately answered and we set  up a start date.
The crew who showed up was professional and worked hard to keep to schedule. I saw they did not cut corners but did a thorough job. They did not leave on any day they were there until they cleaned up everything even though I said it was OK to leave the remains till the next day. They took every scrap of material away and the yard looked better than I expected.
The second half of the job which consisted of building a stone wall where the fireplace was and installing the new pellet stove came out amazing. It is way better than we imagined it would be. As they did outside, the work was done clean and Omar even mopped the floor and cleaned the windows.
Special thanks to Chris, Brian and Omar  and two others whose names i did not get for a Great job.
I will definitely use this company again when the need arises.

When I got it home my husband and I had to cut the plastic away in order to unload it. We carried the smaller box into the house and put it in the master bedroom where it is going to be installed. The larger box was much heavier so we had to open it and carried all the pieces individually up to the bedroom. The items in that box were in perfect condition, but frankly the box looked completely undisturbedifferent and I find it hard to believe it had ever been opened. We didn't get around to installing it until about 2 months later. When my husband opened the smaller box containing the actual fireplace he discovered it was seriously damaged, and appears to have been crushed by something heavy being placed on it. (My husband is a structural engineer). When we contacted Ashleigh's they refused to do anything, insisting that they had inspected it, I had signed that it was in new condition and that it looked like it had fallen off a truck. I pointed out that I was never given the opportunity to inspect it myself and was forced to rely on their representation, that it did not look like it had fallen off a truck and that they loaded it onto my truck so that would be their responsibility if in fact that is what happened (which is NOT the case). They also pointed out we had picked it up 2 months ago. I argued that their reasons for not helping us would be the same if I'd called a week later so that was just nonsense. They absolutely either knew it was damaged when they loaded it or they never inspected and just lied about it because they are apparently supposed to inspect in order to have any recourse.

They performed the installation above and beyond what was expected.  They were kind enough to fit us into their busy schedule due to a deadline we had.  Mike came out as scheduled and gave us the free estimate.  He was on time and very professional.  After receiving their estimate we scheduled a day for the work.

On the specified date/time they arrived as stated.  The crew worked all day...but due to unforeseen problems in the chimney they were not able to install the liner.  Mike came out to the house with a camera and examined the chimney more closely.  They saw some of the obstructions and also discovered a couple places closer to the top where the bricks had fallen out.  Thus the job was scheduled for the following Monday.

Day 2:  The crew, led by Paul, arrived, again on time.  This time, they attacked the job with even more determination...they knew exactly what needed to be done.  They went into our bedroom, had to put 2 holes in the wall to repair the chimney.  After 5-6 hrs, they were successful in getting the liner all the way down the chimney.

They did all the repairs, vacuumed the bedroom, cleaned the walls and left everything spotless.  The job was completed to our amazement and satisfaction.

I called Mike to find out what the additional charge was for the additional labor and materials...he said nothing was owed!  What?  He said what he quoted was the price...amazing!

When I went out to finish with Paul and the crew, they were even picking pebbles from the cement out of the flower bed.

I will not have anyone else work on our chimney.  They are outstanding!

    Complete Chimney & Home Maintenance
They weren't able to do the inspection, and other people had to come out. It was an unusual situation, but it wasn't their fault, because of the way our chimney is set up. The service was a fail, they couldn't do it.

This is some of the best service I have received from any kind of contractor. They were friendly, punctual, quick, cleaned up after themselves and they didn't charge us labor to replace a part that was incorrectly installed originally. Great company and great work!

Jay gave us an estimate that he stuck to, gave us great advice on other jobs and was extremely professional & helpful.  We started small with a chimney repair which he completed on time & cleanly.  He gave us tips on a future job we asked about (front walkways) and gave us solutions that we will be excited about being able to have him do in the near future.

He was on time to the estimate & gave us an accurate time frame on when he could do the work & how long the job would take.  He was there when he said he was going to be and followed up on our questions & phone calls.

We chose him based on his Angie's List reviews & couldn't have been happier to add another to the profile-- great job Jay!

These guys are the ultimate professionals and have tremendous character.  It was an honor to have them in my home.  They were truthful, hard working and impecable in their work.  They provided me with two options and really went through the pros and cons with each on and recommended the less expensive option not because they didn't want to do the work or because they were trying to get the job done quickly and not do a thorough job, but because it was the best solution for the problems my wife and I were experiencing with our chimney.  I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.  The work performed was a big job and they did everything like it was their own house.  My wife and I were impressed and continue to be even to this day.  We look at the job they did and talk about it often and are very thankful for people like those that work at JP Chimney Services.  These people are worth every penny.  They left nothing to chance and completely clean everything when they finished.
