Eye Care reviews in Averill Park

    Albany-Troy Cataract & Laser Associates

This procedure extended for several months (spring-summer 2013), from the initial consultation, through cataract surgeries on each eye, through the post-opertive care and follow-up visits. Thus the single date listed about really is not applicable.
The pre-surgery consultation with Dr. Zieker and his staff was very thorough. I found him to be very personable and very good at explaining the procedure, including the risks involved and corrective actions that would be used if needed. He and his staff were also very good at answering my questions. The surgeries were performed by Dr Zieker at a separate facility (not part of the Ophthalmic Consultants practice, but apparently used by many ophthalmic practices in the Capital Region)--thus I do not believe the assisting surgical staff were part of the Opthalmic Consultants practice. The surgeries went well, although two minor issues developed after the fact (neither of which were the result of anything that happened during the surgeries themselves). Overall I am pleased with the results of the surgeries: my distance vision has improved to the extent that I no longer need to wear glasses except for reading and close-up vision.

The post-operative care and follow-ups, which began the day after each surgery, were largely provided by the optometrists of the Ophthalmic Consultants practice (primarily, but not exclusively at the Troy office). The post-operative care was very good. When some issues arose after the second surgery, the staff were especially responsive and were able to quickly diagnose the problems and effectively respond to them. Twice I needed to contact the practice during the evening and received call backs within a few minutes of my initial calls.
The one issue that some might raise with this practice is that on several of my visits I heard other patients complaining about the wait time before seeing the doctor. While there probably is room for improvement in this area, I do not consider it a significant issue. Things like patient emergencies happen in most medical offices and most patients want their doctors to spend as much time as is necessary with them. Sometimes the waitng room may backed up, other times the process runs more smoothly.

    Sax, Dr. Robert D.
Dr. Sax has been my doctor for several years and I have always been very satisfied with him and his staff. He is thorough, attentive to my concerns, explains what is going on and is very good about answering all questions. On a previouse visit (two weeks prior) he prescribed a treatment plan and scheduled a follow-up appointment. At the follow-up appointment he re-examined me and determined that my problem had been successfully dealt with. Upon hearing that I was scheduled to be out of town for a little over two weeks and was a bit concerned if the problem should return while and quot;on the roadand quot;, he suggested a course of action if needed..

    Kelly M. Primeau

Dr Primeau is an optometrist who works in the same practice as my ophthalmologist. Dr. Primeau was pleasant and efficient. She listened to my concerns and answered my questions. The support staff were also pleasant and efficient. Aside from a bit of a wait between various preparations and actually seeing the doctor, overall the appointment went very well.

    Glaucoma Consultants of Capital
Dr. Simmons scheduled me asap for a trabeculectomy. Operation went well. Follow up visits-2-3 times a week went well. He even came in twice on a Sunday to check my pressure. My pressure is under control now.
At the same time, I had a cataract developing in the same eye. Because I have a weird eye, he sent me to a specialist in NYC to do the cataract surgery and Dr Simmons is providing the follow up care.
I trust his professional judgement and my vision has improved. You rarely wait a long time and the staff is very professional and friendly.
    My experience there was excellant.

    Belhumeur, Dr. Ted T.
It took a good bit of diligence and care on Dr. Belhumeur's part, but the infection was cured and there was no permanent damage to my vision.I was very happy with the level of care I received. I continue to see Dr. Belhumeur for regular eye exams. My husband has also become his patient. Dr. Belhumeur and his staff are helpful, professional and friendly.I gave him a C for availability only because he has recently semi-retired and reduced his hours. There is another optometrist in the office however, so the staff is available during normal office hours.

    Eyedentity Eyewear LLC
The new lenses are great. (I did have to have one lens redone-but that was no problem for them)
I would go back because they treat you like a patient, not just another customer.

    Pamela Kaw MD
She puts me at ease, is thorough and answers questions. The staff is friendly and there is generally only about a 10-minute wait time.
