AVILDesigns, LLCIt was a great start, I got to choose inspiration images and had a designer devoted to my project. She had great ideas and we really got the ball rolling. Unfortunately, she ended up leaving the company before all of the decisions were finalized on our project. Once alerted that the project was not complete Bryan immediately connected me with someone who could take over. The new designer was in touch within a day or two, asked me questions to get a feel for where we were at in the project and what still needed attention. Her advice was wonderful and matched what I liked to a T. I loved the extra attention she spent on recognizing that we have a exuberant 7 year old boy and 10 year old girl and recommended items that were family friendly, washable when possible, and also pet and stain friendly while keeping with the feel and elegance of the room with practical items within our price range. Some of the suggestions that she made I didn't even know existed (a frame TV, what?!) I have no confidence in my own design skills so I leaned on her to help me make a lot of decision that many would consider minute and other designers probably would have ignored. When the renderings of the design were unveiled, I was elated to see them, however the measurements seemed to be off a little bit. I mentioned it and they were corrected and back in my mailbox within hours. Then, when I was indecisive and made an unexpected change with one of our furniture items last minute, she gave back up suggestions depending on how I went with it. She sent me the link to every.single.item that was proposed in the rendering so I did not have to search on my own. In the meantime Bryan worked hard at getting me the name of the contractors in the area to help complete the project when we did not know who to hire. I would recommend this design team again and again! Very professional, helpful, and really good at their jobs. I can't wait until all of the final touches are on it, and I can host a gathering to show off what a wonderful job it was! Thanks Ashley and Bryan!- Allyson L.

ALife by DesignThis was a huge project! Paula designed and her husband Charles, did the architecture. Paula was so fabulous, that we hired her to be the project manager, and what a PM she was. She had no problem calling contributors whenever needed. She introduced to several previously completed projects and they were beautiful as well. She took us out to meet several cabinet makers, including the Amish gentleman that we hired. I cannot say enough about Life by Design, you just cannot go wrong by hiring them. We will definitely have them out here again and again.- Judith H.

AA & L DECORATING INCJudith Swiderski knows what she is doing, and is very helpful in her decorating advice. The job A & L Decorating did on the windows was excellent, but the price was high. You pay for good work, however, and that is what I got. It was a great job.- GERARD C.

ATHE HOME STYLISTshe spent time talking with both my husband and me about our uses of the rooms and our likes and dislikes. Then she made some recommendations. She very skillfully helped us reconcile our differing opinions on styles and colors. Julie is a very competent professional with good listening skills and a good eye for layout. We were both very pleased with her suggestions.- Valerie C.

AHomemade DesignWhen we decided to redo our kitchen in April of 2012, we knew what we wanted fixed, our budget and that's about it. We started talking to contractors, kitchen design centers and researching ideas. We quickly realized we were in WAY over our heads. A lot of places offer free design services if you buy all of your materials through them. We didn't want to be tied down. We didn't want a complete tear down to the studs, either. Homemade Design to the rescue! First of all the price was an absolute steal for the service provided. Amanda and co. Listened to what we wanted and came up with inovative, functional and beautiful solutions. Our house is old. We wanted to keep that 1920s feel, but still have a dishwasher, granite countertops and stainless appliances! Amanda had the brilliant idea of only replacing the bottom cabinets. She also gave me excellent instructions on how to refinish my existing cabinets so they look like new. This was a perfect solution for US. Homemade Design gave us ideas for layout, cabinets, lighting, wall paint, appliances, furniture, countertops, backsplash, faucets, sink, and cusions for built in. She would have recommended flooring if we wanted, but we didn't. Now, Amanda is more like a consultant...( I actually called her my kitchen remodel therapist). You still are ultimately responsible for the plan and what works for you. If your measurements are off (like mine were) that's on you. I was adament about no island and no microwave over the stove and so she didn't put those in the design. Some suggestions were not my style. And I said so. Honestly, if I picked out my own kitchen it would be so safe: white subway tile or something. Amanda gave me the guts to mix patterns and create something spectacular! It took almost a year to complete ( contractors fault) We did a lot of work ourselves. We bought the cabinets, backsplash tile, light fixtures, table and banquette cusions through Homemade Design at a great discount, we checked!! If you try shopping for any part of your kitchen, the volume of choices can be overwhelming. We loved having Amanda narrow it down for us. Communication was through email, mostly. She never took longer than three business days to respond to my million questions or concerns. Awesome. 5 months later, my kitchen is a dream come true. And I owe it all to Homemade Design!- michael d.

AWe have 2 small rooms that are a challenge for us to decorate. My husband is disabled & we require space for his motorized wheelchair, which further limits what we can do. Bryan, the owner, & Dorothy, our designer, listened to our requests & designed 2 beautiful rooms that maximize the limited space. Once we approved the design & furniture, they immediately provided a list of carpenters so we could get started on some built-in cabinetry. We were also provided with a list of all the furnishings & websites so we can purchase what we can afford. We had never used a design team before & I didn't know what to expect, but I'm so happy we did! Now we have a direction & vision of what we can do to truly utilize those rooms. We also have control over the budget & can do what we can afford as time goes on. Bryan & Dorothy were absolutely wonderful to work with & I would definitely use them again!!

AMatthew was originally hired to assist my nephew in preperation for the Parochial High School Admissions exam. Building a relationship with Matthew was the best thing for my nephew. Matthew was very safe going into this situation creating a trusting a environment. Not knowing what he was walking into, Matthew quickly learned that my nephew’s academic inabilities were far more important than preparing for an high school entrance exam. Immediately Matthew begin working on creating a plan of action. He is very patient, yet intentional about holding my nephew accountable. Moreover, he follows up and send reminders for my nephew (I.e. don’t forget to bring your book home from school, remember to work on your math). Although we have a long way to go, it’s safe to say that we are seeing some progress. Thanks Matthew.

DWhen we chose Kinetic Kitchen to remodel our two bathrooms, we selected them for two reasons: Excellent quality workmanship in a reasonable time frame. Unfortunately, they did not meet either of those expectations. (It’s ironic, because the Kinetic Kitchen designer told my husband and I that contracting with them is like a car dealership, which I interpreted as paying top dollar knowing the work is going to be excellent in the least disruptive way. Instead it feels like we went to the used car lot to buy a broken down Ford Escort for the cost of a Lexus.) This is what went wrong with our remodel: - The project was estimated to take 4-5 weeks. It took over 19 weeks. (Yep, over four months). - The grout was two different colors. They took out the grout and replaced it, and it was still two different colors. Third time, they used a coloring agent to make it all the same color. They blamed the manufacturer, but in my simple Google searches the first rule is to start with enough grout to do the job, which they didn’t do. So hopefully this coloring agent they used will not fade in the next few years. - They have no idea how to put in a heated floor. They had no plan. They ordered cable for 70 square feet when they needed 30. When the 70 feet didn’t fit, they doubled up the cable sporadically around the floor. The floor had extreme cold and hot spots. So after the whole bathroom was done, they had to take everything out, rip the floor up, and replace it all. One would have thought this time they would create a proper plan that would work. Nope! Their plan was just plain wrong. My husband ended up contacting the manufacturer for guidance and created the plan to map the cable. Kinetic Kitchen did not even know the spacing between the pillars and they proposed laying the heated wires under our vanity (which is against the manufacturer’s recommendations). Again, they truly had no idea how to install this. - There were lots of little things, which goes to my next point, they did not care about the details of the project. The lights were touching the wood of the mirror, the threshold was a big block of wood and not tapered to be even with the floor, the doors were not sanded enough, and the towel bars were not properly anchored. To their credit, when we pointed these things out, they fixed them to our satisfaction. But sometimes, it was not an easy conversation to convey what was wrong and to get them to agree to fix it. Why not just pay attention to the details the first time and do a good job? They just wanted to be done with the job. - When we requested to speak to the owner Vic about the problems, he refused to speak to us. (This is the same man who came to our house to determine feasibility of our remodel, who then proceeded to talk to us for 30+ minutes about his daughter going to a Canadian college cheaper than colleges in the US. Suddenly, he didn’t have time to deal with us?) - FINALLY, I SAVE THE WORST FOR LAST. One of the Kinetic Kitchen employees flipped out and started screaming at my husband and I. Apparently he was upset about having to fix the floor and felt the best way to deal with it was to yell at the customer. Yep, with our children in the house, he yelled at us to “LOOK HIM IN THE EYE…” and he had to “EAT CROW…” by being here. His boss was standing right next to him as he yelled at us. After that, he continued to work in our house (can you say awkward?) and apologized three days later. We were at their mercy at that point and just wanted them to finish and leave. My words of advice if you are considering Kinetic Kitchen, JUST DON’T. We are normal people, not overly demanding. We paid SO much money and just wanted the job done and done well. In the end they fixed everything, but the whole point of using Kinetic Kitchen was to have the project done right and within a reasonable time frame, at which they completely failed. If that doesn’t convince you, the very unprofessional behavior of their employee yelling at the customer is a huge red flag.
