Concrete Repair reviews in Altamont

  • Vinny came out promptly and gave us an estimate, which was very detailed including rebar, mesh and vapor barrier, in addition to the stone and concrete work that would be involved.  When Vinny and his crew arrived to start the job, they removed all the old concrete, set up the new floor, added stone and poured the new concrete.  Everything was finished in three days.  The new floor looks wonderful, and I feel confident it will hold up for many, many years.  Vinny is takes pride in his work, and we are very happy to recommend him.

  • I met with the owner to go over what I was looking to have done, which was to replace a walkway in back of our house and small patio area.  I decided to go with replacing the pavers with a stamped concrete design.  Marc (the owner) sent me an estimate, which I accepted and returned with a 10% downpayment, as he required.  I was a bit disgruntled when my check was cashed almost a month prior to the work starting.  Granted, the continuous rainy weather delayed the job, which I understand, but I believe the downpayment should have been held until the job was at least started.  I was given a time estimate to complete the job of two days - it ended up taking five (four work days and one day to let the sealer dry).  I think this should have been explained at our meeting.

The actual walkway did come out very nicely, and I am pleased with it.   The downside to all of this, and the reason I will not hire them again or recommend them, is the total disregard and disrespect they showed my property when they were there.  While I understood some digging was necessary, and access to the walkway area might involve stepping on some of my plants, the crew showed a total lack of concern and ordinary care.   Damage was done that was not necessary to get the job done.  They trampled and all but killed two large hostas, and then to add insult to injury, left our hose laying on top of them instead of hanging it back up.  They also stepped on and killed several other plants, pulled out my garden border fence and threw it on top of my other plants.  They couldn't walk a few steps and lay the fence down on the picnic table or lawn?   They also drove a heavy concrete machine on our lawn, killing the grass and leaving trenches in the lawn.  The alternative, which was to use a wheelbarrow, would have cost us an additional $150!  Are you kidding me??  Outrageous.  In addition, the cement truck when it backed out of our driveway drove up on our front lawn, leaving a deep furrow and dislodging several border stones we had.   No one bothered to replace the stones.  All of these angered us greatly.  Upon calling the owner to report this, we were told they "weren't finished yet" and they would clean up.   He did agree about the hose, but the other things I was told I should have expected as part of the job.   Not acceptable!!  They also washed out their concrete mixer in our driveway, leaving concrete sludge and a deep furrow.  Nice walkway, not nice the way it was done.  I have to say the crew, in particular Tony, was very pleasant to deal with.  Just wish they had been much more careful.  Major issue was the owner talking down to me on the phone when I told him what happened.  He even said I was the first person to EVER complain about this, and I know for a fact that is not true!  He was more interested in making excuses than he was in fixing things.

I'm very disappointed these things happened, especially since the main reason I hired them was their "A" rating on Angie's List.  Because of their disregard for our property I cannot recommend them.  Other contractors will be more than happy to take good care of your property, and fix or replace anything they damage.

  • Wow get a cup of coffee for this one.  For such a simple job its a wonder that the story is so complex.  I'll start with what I'll end with, that the company that sold me the hot tub was significantly more professional & CHEAPER (with a warranty).  This disaster started when I was approached by "Jim" regarding this patio & the instillation of a PVC privacy fence (that of course was MORE expensive than Bruce Fence Co. {a more professional establishment}).  He quilted me into giving him the work saying "he was my neighbor & being a smaller contractor it would be easier to stand behind the job" (laughable, read more).
Starting up the job I was immediately contacted by the Concord Pools salesman, he said that it was impossible to rationally communicate with James due to "yelling & demands".  Of course I had to take my time & handle the pool company myself & when "Jim" was needed I had to drive & see over him in the store as if I had a toddler with me. Obviously he was "in the know" regarding this spa if he was demanding the specifications & unit needs.
As it came the day of the pour I asked Jim if he could wait a day due to weather.  Of course he said no, because he had another job the next day.  This is because it poured the 3 days prior & was going to POUR THE SAME TIME HE HAD CONCRETE DELIVERED.  The driver of the concrete truck said "he waited a extra 10 minutes before he filled his truck because he couldn't believe somebody would be pouring concrete in these conditions" Crainville Concrete.  As the rain transitioned from showers to pouring there wasn't a proper temporary roof suspended OVER the concrete, exposing it to the impact of the torrential down pour, just a pitiful attempt to drape plastic over part of the concrete was it!  James returned & as he was cursing to himself so audibly my wife was offended to the point where she went into the house, he tried to unsuccessfully "save" JB 1/rd of the patio.
The following week Mr. Barry began to remodel my deck before a contract was drawn up, ordered $500 worth of paint with my Visa, & when the paint was wrong of course he had another job & disappeared again.
Then a Wednesday night at approximately 850 pm I was called & ordered to meet him Thursday morning at 1040 am at a supply store, seeing that this was totally rude, unacceptable, & out of place (considering I WAS PAYING HIM), I didn't waste another day.  I then told James that If he didn't logically get intouch with me I would have to take him to court.  He showed up the next morning (drunk/ hungover or high) completely uninvited & or unannounced screaming that "there was nothing he could have done" (um don't do concrete work in pouring rain) & kicked my $10,000 hot tub & said "f**k myself & call the town if I had a problem".
I now had to have another contractor finish the job he beeged to do & start a small claims case in Guilderland Small Claims Court.  It gets interesting here because I was approached by the Judge Joe Brown Show & asked if I would go on their show to mediate my case.  I agreed because I knew the show would pay his loses & I would not have to get a judgement when he lost in Town Court.
In typical character he went on the show & LIED LIKE A RUG!  James Barry took the opportunity to be honest & have somebody help pay for HIS MISTAKES to say "he had nothing to do with the set up of my spa" (when as described above he coordinated & tried to preform the work), "I called him to complain about a fence" (how could he respond if he never answered his phone), & lastly "he said to seal it before [I??] installed the spa" (another blatant lie).  The best is when said he was a "volunteer of a housing program that I used to manage" (this program paid him tens of thousands of dollars, oh yea & he almost burned down one of my houses, RULED HIS FAULT by Albany Fire Department.  Did I mention he took a oath on a Bible first, what a guy!
Obviously Judge Joe Brown couldn't differentiate the truth from the lies & didn't side in my favor.  Oh as a aside DON'T EVER GO ON THAT SHOW, ITS A SCAM!  A appropriate end for a completely inappropriate experience.
There are problems with every single job this "man" preformed in my home.  A kitchenette in my basement is missing a cupboard door, there is paint on my wood work from all of his jobs, a hole in my wall where he was installing trim, a $1200 fence gate that wont close properly, the above concrete "job", & lastly he walked off the job 1/rd into the remolding of my outdoor living space.
This "man" approached my wife alone in the grocery store saying "what the f**k is your husband's problem"  All in all this is a feble excuse for a worker let alone anything close to a professional contractor that you would not want near your property never mind to work on your house.  I hope that whoever reads can benefit from both my mistakes & honesty here, stick with larger professional companies, they grew for a reason.  I'll do my best to post pictures to let his work speak for itself.  A complaint has been filed with the NY AG & BBB.

  • My front porch had several blocks that had crumbled over time. I had consulted other contractors, but Anthony was the only one to dig out the block and get a real idea of what was going on and whether water had undermined anything. He developed a solid plan for how to repair the damage without causing problems for the rest of the portch. He also pointed out one corner of my house had been undermined by water which I had never thought to look for. He came when he said he would and finished the job in two days. The quality of the work was excellent and the porch looks brand new. Anthony is a little gruff, but salt of the earth gruff, if you know what I mean. Great guy, honest and very had working.

  • What we received was a concrete garage floor with numerous ridges and bumps, and concrete steps, both the top of the steps and also the sides, that are wavy and lumpy. Cracks started to develop on the steps after only 1 week. When defects were shown to the contractor, his response was ?What do you mean, it?s a perfect job.? Further complaints were met with the contractor interrupting and talking loud, even shouting, as I tried to explain my dissatisfaction. His solution for the lumpy garage was for me to get on my hands and knees with a sanding stone and rub it out myself ? ?the exercise will do you good ? you need it.? He said that if I kept complaining he would punch me. As he left he gave me the finger and shouted obscenities and insults.
