As always, the provider performed excellent work.  If you want a cheap or poor repair, do not use this professional person's services.  If you care about quality and thoroughness, and if you value your antique clocks or watches, this is the man to trust.  I know of no one else between Albany and Syracuse who has John Kovacik's ability and integrity.  He has a very well-equipped shop and can do almost anything you might need in the way of high grade watch and clock repairs.  We are very lucky to have someone with this kind of ability living in our area of central New York.

When I called Mr Lewin he asked me to monitor the grandfather clock for several weeks to see if there was a pattern to it stopping to chime the hour.  I did so and called him back, shortly before Christmas.  He said it sounded like the fan type thing that spins before the clock chimes was hanging up (excuse me but I do not know the proper name for it. ).  He said he was going on extended holiday and would be gone for 6 weeks but would call me when he returned and make an appointment to come back out.  He never called and when I called him in 8 weeks. There was a message on his answering maching stating that he would not be back until April 1st.  I called April 1st and left a message and called again on April 10th and left a message.  He didn't return my calls.  Out of frustration I emailed him on April 11 ,He finally emailed me back on April 15th telling me that it sounded like there was another issue with the clock that probably needed attention and that his warranty only covers bushing work done.  That was not what he told me.  He told me he would put the clocks in as new working condition and his work would be guaranteed for a year.   So he said he could let me know when he could travel to take another look at the clock, however there would be other fees involved or I could hire someone else to take care of the situation. When he told me that for the additional fee the clocks would be totally overhauled and put in "as new" working condition that is what I expected and what I paid for.  The clocks, especially the grandfather, was returned to me not in proper working order.  He cashed my check for $877.40 and now does not want to stand behind his guarantee.  He never once mentioned that his guarantee only covered bushings.  If he had, I wouldn't have paid the extra money for a complete overhaul, which evidently neither clock got.  I have reported him to the Better Business Bureau and they just closed the case today because neither mr Lewin or anyone from Lorraine's Collectables replied back to the bureau. I feel I was taken advantage of .  The sum of money I paid was not a small one and I do not see why I should have to foot the cost of someone else comming in to fix what he did not.  Unfortunately, small claims court doesn't look to be an option because the case would have to be open where he is located which is several hours from where I am and I am dissabled and cannot make that trip.  I would like everyone to know that this repair service does not stand behind it's work so unless you have money you wish to throw away, find someone else who will honor their guarantee

    Doug The Clock Man
I have a grandfather clock that I inherited from my father that was no longer working. It is a family heirloom so I obviously wanted to have it repaired.  This gentleman came out and said that he would have to take the clock back to his shop and have it cleaned up and fixed. He charged me 250 for the estimate and took the clock with him.  This was in the spring. He did not come back until September, but finally brought the clock back to put back together. He said that he would have to glue the striker arm on and let it sit, and that I was not to turn it on for a few hours. I said that I was not comfortable with that because he would not be able to demonstrate that it worked properly. He said that he would come back if it was not working.  It did not work, so he did end up coming back out to repair it. He came back out and got it to temporarily work, but a few minutes later it stopped working again. I tried to get him to come back out to repair it, but I was never able to.  I finally had to take him to court to get my money back which I did.
