    Livewatch Security
My family bought two LiveWatch systems. We spent about $2000.00 and it turned out to be a complete nightmare. The sales people will tell you anything that will get you in the door, the customer help team can not make a decision if their life depended on it, the activation team needs to be trained better with regards to their systems and how they work, and the "Supervisors" that everyone has to go check with need to answer the phones so decisions can be made in a timely manner. This company expects our households to live around their system, they need to develop a system that lives around the household. We were made promises and told this system can do things it can not. In the end (within 21 days we returned everything) it cost us $19.95 twice for monitoring activation fees and $50.00 to return the systems although we were well within their 45 day return policy. Please save your self money, aggravation and frustration. Find another company to work with.

I ordered my first system directly from Simplisafe. I found this systems to have many glitches. The company was friendly and they would go out of their way to help for the first 30 days. I received false alarms on door sensors, the phone app worked for about a week (I paid extra for that service thru monitoring), I called and they told me they would credit my a account one month for the inconvenience and to uninstall/reinstall the app. I thought they really stand behind their product. So I ordered a system thru Angie's list and parts from them directly to complete the system for a friend. While that system was in transit, my system panel stopped responding to the brain, again I called and (my 30 day trial just expired) the customer service rep acted like I was wasting her time for something really stupid. She told me to pull the batteries out of the panel and reset it, I did and it worked for another few days.

My friend got his system. We were going to put it in that weekend. My panel went out again but I couldn't call, it was evening and their office was closed. I called the monitoring dept. to see if there was an after hours number, they told me "No". My friend watched me work on this fail able home security system over the past few weeks. The app not working still, the panel going out three times, the sensors saying a door was open when it wasn't, and so on. He didn't want this in his house.

I informed Angie's List. They noted the account for the part I bought thru them. I contacted Simplisafe and they allowed me to return his system because it was within the 30 days. I asked them if I could return mine for a partial refund and customer service told me, "No, but I could try to sell it on Craigslist." -  I'm not going to sell a faulty system to someone trying to secure their home. BTW, I didn't get the credit for the monitoring I stated above, they charged me. I guess you are supposed to keep calling during their business hours, wait on hold for half an hour and then tell them you got charged. Then they apologize and tell you they will give you two months free monitoring. Then they charge you and you get to play the game over again. Now I have their system in a bag sitting in a closet. These guys are a true waste of time, energy and money. There is nothing simple, safe or reliable able them, except their 30 day return policy. I still haven't seen the refund for my friends system but maybe it will be on my next statement.

I installed the product.  It appears to work well.
I am disappointed in the quality of the door and window sensors.
    The mounting hardware is crap.
They need to rething the contact closure assembly. It is not a very attractive or stealth unit.

    Frontpoint

We were contacted within 15 minutes of inquiry.  They were very thorough with the explanation of the product and services.  We received the equipment within a week.  It was easy to install and the activation from Frontpoint representatives was thorough and professional.  We are so much happier with this system than any we have had in the past.

Once we had chosen the right products for our home, installation was scheduled within a week. When the technician arrived he was on time, courteous, and knowledgeable.  The installation was completed in a timely manner, and he was patient and provided training on our new system, until we were comfortable to operate it after he was gone. We were assured that our new systems would be easy to use, and they are!

Simplisafe sells various security sensors along with environmental sensors that are programmed into a cell phone transmitting base unit that Simplisafe monitors. items are ordered online and are shipped to the purchaser. items arrive and purchaser installs them and they self connect to the base unit. Sensors can be named online for quick id and messages are sent if triggered. unit self checks with home monitoring service each week. Triggered sensors also prompt a phone call from live human. This is a good product that does the job and is economical.

They system didn't work right. So I cancelled it. I called the main office and spoke to the manager there. She was snide with me. They still want $358 because it's a 3 year contract. They said it was on my contract. I didn't have my glasses, they didn't give me time to get, it was pressure pressure pressure and I just signed. They never said I was under contract for 3 years. I had to call every month so my system could even work correctly. I paid for nothing. They take the money out of my account without my permission. I was to pay $40.99 per month, yet they kept increasing my bill monthly and one bill was upwards of $55.99, another bill was $59. You just can't trust them. I then cancelled, now they say I owe them all this money.

They were really, really prompt and had it in within 3 days. I was very impressed. The installer was really, really nice. He was super polite and very skilled. It was a pleasure. They had a deal and the installation and equipment were free. I just pay the monthly fee.

    CEI Alarm
When our house was built all entry points (windows and doors) as well as infrared motion detectors were hard wired in.  Recently, all the windows and doors were replaced to provide for more efficient ones and with the replacement my wife and I decided to refresh our home security alarm system as well as it was 15+ years old.  Refreshing the security system would allow us to determine the exact level of security we wanted to retain in our home.

Using Angie's List, we narrowed the companies we wanted to use down to two local firms.  (If you are considering putting an alarm in or upgrading I strongly suggest you do not do this without looking at Angie's List.)  One company we were familiar with, the other company we were not.  We interviewed the company we were familiar with; got a lot of sales rhetoric and little else of value.  It was my job to interview CEI Alarm and see what the benefit would be by using them rather than the first company.

I drove to the company offices unannounced and asked to speak with someone about alarm system upgrades and/or replacement.  Dave Sinclair, President of CEI, introduced himself and we began to converse about what type of systems are currently in the market place.  As we progressed, he invited security consultant Rick Nichols to join us.  After a 90 minute discussion about alarm systems and what CEI does and does not do (much to my relief there was no sales pitch or "is your family really safe" rhetoric involved) I invited CEI to review my system and give me a bid.

Rich Nichols arrived on the date and at the time agreed upon.  We spent 2 1/2 hours discussing the pros and cons of adequate, good and excellent home security options.  In the end I chose a system that was a blend of my existing hardwire system and the addition of varying wireless components including a wireless cell.  Rich indicated that he would sit down with Dave and work out an estimate for the work.

Approximately 5 days later I met with Rich again and reviewed the estimate.  My hardwire requirements drove the cost of the work up considerably due to the labor involved.  (I knew this going in as an average labor for all the companies I spoke with was $75.00+ per hour for work on existing systems and we have a lot of doors and windows.)  The overall costs of the additional security upgrades were acceptable.  We discussed contract terms for monitoring and ownership of the system when the contract expired (which is extremely important to know) and agreed on the total estimate price.

Prior to installation, I spoke with Glenda Mueller, office manager, twice to complete necessary paperwork and assure that all the I's were dotted and the T's were crossed.  I was grateful she initiated these conversations as I had forgotten many things of importance for an operational system.

Alex Chmelewski, CEI's installation/service manager arrived on the date and at the time agreed upon to do the necessary work and install the new pieces of the system.  The work took almost 10 hours to complete.  Alex reviewed the system with me and made sure I knew how it worked.  He was neat, clean and efficient and the final product revealed that.

Three days after the installation Rick called me to inquire how the system was working and if I had any questions.  The system works great and I told him even though Alex was thorough about the system nuances I had forgotten how to rename zones.  Within 2 minutes of completing the telephone call with Rick, Alex called from another work site and walked me through the procedure again.

I am grateful we chose CEI as our alarm company.  They held to their bid, completed the work in a timely and expert manner and I received what I paid for.  This is a local company that cares about customer service and will make sure you know every option available to you.  I found no hidden agendas or sleight of hand, if you will.  I would recommend this company to anyone looking to install or upgrade their alarm system.  They will work hard to earn your business and retain it.
