Home Health Care reviews in Reno

At first I thought Ho'okele was great. I was very happy with the level of care and trusted them with my mom completely. Until two very bad things happened. One of the caregivers brought bed bugs into our home, which was a real danger to my mother who was unable to get out of bed if And when the bugs started to attack her. We were forced to move my mom on a gurney into a hotel for a few nights, and pay a lot of money to get the house fumigated. And the whole event upset my mother a great deal because change was very difficult for her to tolerate and exacerbated her dementia. But what made it especially bad was that the owner of the company, Bonnie Castonguay, refused to admit that her employee was responsible, even after we found out that the same thing had just happened to another Ho'okele client, involving the same employee! So it was obvious to everyone how the bed bugs were brought into our home, but Bonnie never would acknowledge it. And then something even worse happened. We found out that cash was suddenly missing from my mom's purse and we suspected a new caregiver that had just started with us. When we brought our suspicions to Bonnie's attention, she refused to believe us and suggested that my mother had simply lost track of the money. Several months passed, and more money kept disappearing. Then one day our bank called to tell us that the caregiver's husband was trying to cash a check and they wanted to know if it was okay. We said absolutely not, and the bank immediately notified the police. Finally she was caught in the act, but because Bonnie ignored our concerns, at that point we had already lost $400 in cash and over $7000 in stolen checks! But here's what made the whole situation much worse. We later found out that this same employee had stolen from another Ho'okele client, and wasn't fired. In fact she was placed in my mother's home immediately following that incident! Needless to say, we felt completely betrayed by Bonnie. How could she assign a known thief to care for my elderly mother suffering with dementia? Bottom line, both of these terrible scenarios never should have happened, and I hold Bonnie Castonguay directly responsible. Ho'okele could not be trusted to keep my family safe. They knowingly put my mother in danger, not once but twice! And when we expressed our concerns, Bonnie denied any responsibility and never even offered to make things right. Therefore, I absolutely do not recommend them, and in fact would warn people to beware of hiring them.

It is a world-wide organization and each group is individually owned. I have used them since last June and they charge an hourly fee. Overall, they are very careful about screening their employees; I don't know how they could screen them any better. They are careful about finding someone who matches my personality and schedule. Some care givers are better than others.

The REX Health Care service company was in immediate contact with my sister upon her return home from the hospital and set a comprehensive plan for both nursing, physical therapy and home care needs. Every individual who came to the house was punctual, knowledgeable and extremely caring and helpful. I don't think we were disappointed in any way. When we had questions we contacted the 24 service line and they provided excelllent resources and made sure that the follow up personnel were well informed and all support was coordinated and complete.
I would highly recommend this service to anyone needing medical home care.

They were just right on it. They caught something that we didn’t catch about him and had to get him to the hospital again. They were very helpful. They are from Reno which is quite far from us, but they were still willing to help us. They were a couple of things that they did that made it good like; the nurse that came out. Previously when we said that Ted has the shakes today and he may have a fever and we have to go back to the hospital that would easily be crossed over because they paid attention to what we were saying so we really appreciated that they saved his life and they had other members than just the nurse who came to see us and I don’t know what exactly to call them, but they were people who asked a lot of questions about what kind of illness ted had, and they found out that the reason for his fall originally was an undiagnosed colon cancer, and when we spoke about that they went to work and got us some money from the cancer society to take care of some of the needs that we had. They were several things we had to do for ted; he couldn’t walk for a while until after the brain surgery. We had to have a hospital bed and they got life alert for us at no cost. They got us some cash to do other things. We had to lift one of teds chairs so that he could get in to his wheel chair more easily and all kinds of things like that. That was all the things the helper from St Mary’s did. We were just thrilled and didn’t expect any of that help. They really went above and beyond to help us.  We didn’t go to their office so I don’t know anything about their office environment but everything else was good.

Her name is Renate, and she is a registered nurse. She comes to the house and we don't have to get out and go any place, so that is a big plus. They are about a 45-minute appointment for my husband and me.

In the begining I just needed some help as I was not able to bathe my mother. I called Circle of Life mostly because they accepted the insurance that my mom had. They came promptly, and explained their services. Once we signed up services began immediatly. They brought in equipment that we didn't even realize she needed, but made life easier for her immediatly. They were reliable and caring. Towards the end of my mother's life, the nurses were very honest about what to expect. They stayed as long as needed to make sure my mom was comfortable. My sister and I feel they made an unbearable situation bearable for us, and more comfortable than we could have expected for our mother.
