    Nylund, Dr. Justin
More pain than I was used to for tooth cleaning. It felt like I was being burned by the fancy new tool. He seems like one of those dentists who just want to make a lot of money. I had to go back for a second visit because he couldn't figure out how to get his computer system to run properly - he has no idea what to do if the computer doesn't tell him. My wife went to get a filling from Nylund and her jaws ached for days.

    Mark Niemiec DDS
I went to Dr Niemiec and all was going well, I had a severe infection on a tooth that needed to get filled, so he gave me an antibiotic prescription for the infection and some hydrocodone for the acute pain, he simply wrote the prescriptions and we set a date about a week after for me to return and get the filling taken care of. The only instructions regarding the medications were those written on the bottles. So about 3 days after I called Dr Niemiec and told him I was still having acute pain and could he issue a refill. He was outraged like Ive never seen a doctor be in all my life, saying those hydrocodone pills were to last me all week or longer. So I went over to his office and showed him where it was written on his prescription bottles to take 1 or 2 tablets every 4 hours as needed for pain, so the time that was lapsed since he had issued the prescription was longer that the prescription would have lasted by 25%, taking the least amount. He wrote me another prescription but he never forgave me. For many years if I called his office his receptionist would simply say they couldnt make me an appointment. But now they say that I had 3 missed appointments; maybe, by law, thats a valid reason for any type doctor to refuse service to a patient. My recollection say that Dr Niemiec put that down about 3 missed appointments so he didnt ever have to get his feelings hurt, or be reminded that I hurt them. I would solemnly swear I never 3 appointments If I did have 3 missed appointments they all would have been more than 11 years ago. 10 years is the limit a credit card collector has to ever expect any bankruptcies to make good. This was never about credit so it might be reasonable to say after any reasonable period Dr Niemiec could show Christian values and just forget about the tiny amount of error and see all the good. I might have missed one scheduled appointment because he had seemed so unreasonably judgmental on the phone, but not 3. I dont recall ever missing even one appointment with him. But Ill give him the credit of my doubt. I will destroy my enemies by making them my friends. (Abraham Lincoln).

    Simms, Dr. Tom
He provides wonderful service. I have been using him for my dental needs for about 5 years and my husband a lot longer. If you call him with an emergency he puts you right in to have a look at it. He is very good at what he does.

I have been a patient of Dr. Niemic's since 2006. I initially chose him because he accepted my dental insurance with Delta Dental. But I have stayed on as a patient because of the excellent service and state of the art dentistry that Dr. Niemic and his team deliver. I referred my husband, my son, and my two daughters because he is so competent and even now, without insurance, his services are affordable and he makes every effort to work with you on payment plans, etc.
I have lived in New York, Massachusetts, California and now Taos. Dr Niemic is tops!

    Harris, Dr. Kellie
I moved to Taos and began using Dr. Harris on the recommendation of my (future) father-in-law and fiance.  I did not particularly like how the office is set up like a big clinic; while it makes it easier for Dr. Harris to supervise what's going on around her, I didn't like the lack of privacy.  Anyway, I cracked a tooth and when I went in I made a point of handing the desk person my insurance card; I  knew my insurance had changed.  I was given a written estimate for the work being done, and agreed to it (I still have the document).  I paid the balance due on the estimate that day.  As it turned out, the billing people did not check with my insurance company since I got mail from them that my insurance had "expired".  I gave them the card again, and was told they didn't have that insurance on file.  I pointed out that I HAD given them the card at the time, and SAID my insurance had changed.  Then I got mail from the insurance company, denying billing.  It was obviously billed incorrectly; the rejection said that billing for a permanent cap needed to be submitted after work for the temporary cap. (I had the temporary cap done, then back again for the permanent crown).  I assumed that the doctor's office would re-submit, but instead they billed me as if my insurance was denied. To top it off, I had problems with the crown when out-of-state; I had an infection under the cap & was told the work had been originally done improperly.  I didn't go to a second dentist for a second opinion; however, my (future) father-in-law ended up having a tooth implant with a specialist out-of-town, supposedly stemming from problems with work done by Dr. Harris, as told by HIS dentist.  He didn't get a "second opinion" on his work, either. Dr. Harris is extremely hard working and dental issues can be extremely complex, and I think it's her staff not giving communications. RE: my cap problems, I know I called the office to complain of air in my cap & it was sensitive, the person answering the phone did NOT give it to Dr. Harris, or ask Dr. Harris to call me back, they told me "it was OK and somewhat expected" and foolishly, I believed them. I think the staff is over-reaching. Another time, I called in severe pain, and was told "the Dr. is gone & there is nothing I can do. Take some Advil".  I told them I had & it didn't help; again I was told there was nothing they could do. At a later visit, I told this to Dr. Harris & she was not pleased & gave me her personal cell. The next time I had a problem I called her directly, she took care of it , and told me to see my MD if the problem did not resolve because it would most likely be a bigger problem than a tooth infection. So, even though we like Dr. Harris, we are not seeing her anymore. We don't want a clinic situation, with staff that can't bill properly, who won't consult the doctor when a patient calls.  I am not giving the experience an "F" because she also did some cosmetic stuff, botox and restylane, and the work was fine.  I have had both procedures done more than once by other MD's so I do have a basis for comparison.  And those are cash procedures, nothing to do with her billing office.  I also am an A4M member, have taken classes, and have some knowledge of how the cosmetic stuff is to be properly done. Once I sent a visiting, out-of-town patient of mine (I am a pharmacist) to her to "fix" an obvious problem with Botox (some people react differently on sides of the face, and adjustment is needed) , and that person came back to tell me how grateful she was, Dr. Harris fixed the problem.  And if you just need a cleaning, or minor dental work, enjoy the luxurious surroundings of the office & ignore the clinic noise.......

    Simms, Dr. Tom
Went great. I was tempted to travel to Albuquerque to use my old dentist, who is excellent. But after reading reviews I decided to give Dr. Simms a try. Glad I did. He's extremely cordial and competent. He explains everything he's doing as he does it, which is wonderful both because I'm curious about how these things are done, and because he acknowledges my presence in the room - something not all doctors are good at. The crown fit well. A small correction was made quickly and without trouble. I would not hesitate to hire him again.

    Nylund, Dr. Justin
Dr. Nylund is the first dentist who actually listened to me AND acted on what he heard - I am resistant to novocaine and usually need both extra novocaine and time for the numbing. My typical experience is that the dentist starts drilling, I am in pain, everything stops while the dentist injects more novocaine and we wait for the numbing to happen. With Dr Nylund it was different - he gave me a bigger dose of novocaine to start with, along with additional time to numb, so I had NO pain whatsoever in the whole lengthy process of removing the old crown, removing the cavity and prepping the tooth for the new crown. Thank you Dr. Nylund!
Dr. Nylund also scored points with me by keeping me informed of what was happening as we went through the procedure without talking down to me. He gave me a heads up that due to the depth of the cavity and its proximity to the nerve, I will probably have cold sensitivity in that tooth - yep, he was right about that!
His staff are also friendly, capable and thoughtful. Thanks to Dr. Nylund and his assistant the temp crown is the most comfortable I have ever had, I don't even notice it's there it fits so well with the other teeth. Also, when I mentioned I would be traveling with the temp crown, the assistant handed me a small tube of Fixadent, so I could re-attach the temp crown if it popped off.
Looks like I have found my new dentist!

    Nylund, Dr. Justin
Based on the 72 yr. old's review, I booked a cleaning with Santana. I have been looking for a Hygienist for the last 10 yrs. I've found her! Santana is so thorough, careful, kind and educational in her cleaning. I'm not sure that I have ever experienced this kind of treatment on my teeth! Excellent! They also do digital xrays which is new to me. Very quick and so easy to see what's going on in my mouth.
As is customary, at the end of the cleaning I met Dr. Nylund and he surveyed my mouth. He noted my xrays and showed me where there was a problem related to what I had described to him as a problem. I appreciated his manner and approach with me.
    Wonderful dental appointment!

    Simms, Dr. Tom
Dr. Simms is extremely sensitive to the needs and concerns of his patients. He goes to extremes to communicate to explain what is needed and what is going to happen. He is gentle and very technically competent. He provided a temporary filling to protect tooth in bad condition just before I left the country for an area where competent dental care would have been very difficult to find. When I returned, he saved the tooth with a permanent filling and crown. Other dental needs have since been taken care of with the same level of care and competence. My dental phobia has basically vanished thanks to Dr. Simms.

I like him really well. He's a nice young man. He bought the practice from someone I know. He's a good dentist. He has the best group of people in town. They've been voted the best dental practice for a number of years. I have a long standing appointment.
