    Lincoln County Medical Center
I went to the X-ray department of the Lincoln County Medical Center in Ruidoso, NM. to schedule a barium swallow X-ray. The checking for the X-ray department has two windows. One is for registration and insurance. The other window is to schedule the X-ray. There was a man standing in registration window talking to the lady inside the other room. I saw and waited for my turn. He and the lady talked for a full five minutes. During that time another hospital employee inside the other room joined in the conversation. Finally, I assumed that the man was just 'visiting' with the employees. I stood up and approached the man and the window. He said ' Well I guess I had better goand quot; and then walked away. The lady at the computer said and quot;Oh, are you needing to register?and quot; I said and quot;Yesand quot; and sat in the chair that the man had been blocking.
Frankly, I was a little p*****, but it is the only hospital in town. I finished the registration process including paperwork and went to the second window. I scheduled an appointment for the following day at 8:00 am. The next morning I showed up and went to scheduling window. I told the lady I was there for my X-ray. She took my name and birthday and began typing. I thought she was processing me. However, she handed me new document to sign. I looked at them and realized they were like the same ones I signed the day before. I told her and even showed her my copy of the documents I signed the day before.
She look surprised and then begin to look for the hospitals copies. She reviewed the list of that day's appointments and thumbed through her stack of paperwork. She was repeating the process when on the second thumbing she found my paperwork. She apologized and completed what she needed to do. She told me to sit in the chairs by the wall and that someone would come and get me.
I sat down and in two minutes a lady from the X-ray department came and took me to the X-ray room. I was greeted by two tech's and the told me where to sit for the barium swallow. Next the X-ray doctor entered the room and made a few other adjustments. The procedure went as it was supposed to go. I watched the barium go directly from my mouth, throat and into my stomach. I swallowed the barium solution several times and a few film X-rays were taken. They were processed and the doctor said everything look normal. He said he would send his report to my doctor. I asked for a copy of the visible records and he said that if I would wait a few minutes he would give me a disk with the images. I waited and he brought it to me.
The X-ray portion of my experience went very well. The registration and scheduling portion was not as it should have been.

    Lincoln County Medical Center
My daughter delivered a baby at this hospital. Dr. Hewitt, practice in Ruidoso, was her doctor. I was a very interested observer since my daughter did not have the best experience at a different hospital for the delivery of her first child. Lincoln County Medical Center staff was on top of everything at all times. Cleanliness, oversight, and care (before, during, and after delivery) were all excellent. The doctors, nurses, technicians (sonograms were needed on the baby after birth), and all workers were friendly and observant, looking out for needs before anyone had to ask. It was worth the longer drive to Ruidoso.
