    Las Cruces Dermatology
Las Cruces is in the southern end of New Mexico where the sun shines 360 days per year. Since I am a landscape designer and gardener, I work outside every day. It is important for me to take care of my skin due to constant sun exposure. My semi-annual checkups are thorough. Dr. Kerner checks my skin from head to toe. If there are any suspicious looking moles or skin lesions, he take a biopsy and sends it to the lab for any signs of skin cancer.
Several years ago when I first saw Dr. Kerner, I had several pre-cancer skin lesions on my nose and cheek bones, He took biopsies of all the areas in question, and treated them with chemical creams. Due to his diligence, I now use sun screen everytime I need to
work outside for any prolonged period of time and pay attention to my exposure to the sun. I also have become accustomed to wear hats to protect my skin and hair!
One more thing; in the years past I have been plagued with fever blisters on my lips due to over-exposure to the sun. I purchased lip balm from Dr. Kerner that has sun block in it that prevents fever blisters from forming. I am eternally grateful for that alone!

I saw the dr maybe a total of 20 minutes and that included the surgery. Dr not very personable. He seemed to be too busy to ask questions or offer suggestions. The staff is superb. Every nurse, assistant and office personnel was helpful, friendly and showed respect to patients.

Then when you get to the office and check in........wow not even a nice hello. Welcome!!!! Whatever?! I saw Anne, she is so quick, it is obvious she could careless about her patient's as well, she wants you IN and OUT as quickly as possible. I could go on and on, about how much we dislike this office, but I'm sure you get the picture? My husband and I will no longer be going to this office in the future.

You have to realize when you make an appointment that all the cosmetic services (fillers, botox, laser treatments) are provided by a nurse practitioner or technicians. You still pay top dollars. For cosmetic services, you don't even see the doctor. The doctor does not do any of that, and only comes about once a month (he resides somewhere else and has several clinics).
So, I will not use them again. If I go to a dermatologist, I would like to be seen by the MD.

Dr. Hempstead schedules couple appointments which makes the procedure much more comfortable. There was no one else in the room and my husband and I stripped to undergarments and were thoroughly checked by Dr. Hempstead for any abnormalities. My husband went first, which gave me an idea of what to expect. He found sun damage and toe fungus and offered products to use to help prevent further damage. My husband is very fair so he offered to treat him for sun damage. He gave him literature to read so he could informatively decide with on whether to proceed with the remedy. We were very comfortable and confident in Dr. Hempstead's approach to our skincare. We will keep him as our Dermatologist and recommend him to others.

I can't compare him to other doctors. I find him very good. I'm not sure if people would be able to get him. He has a pretty full client list. For new patients it would be 6 months or longer wait period to see him. That's very common in Las Cruces with a good surgeon or a good doctor. He is a very knowledgeable dermatologist. He has taken care of couple of my pre-cancer problems.

Very nice office - Dr. was on time - treated approximately 50 spots with nitrogen. he explained that they were not cancerous, but were pre-cancerous. Only complain is that is difficult to get an appointment for less than 3 months out.

I needed a full body exam to check for sun damage. I had 2 places on my face that needed freezing. The Dr. Froze them and thy have healed without marks. I also had painful scars on my knees from knee replacement surgery. He offered to give me cortisone injections to thin them out and soften them. I agreed, and they are much less painful now. The staff were efficient and professional. I will return to this practice in the future.

After a short wait, he looked at my skin problems, and said that one was pre-cancerous. He froze off all areas, and said to return in a year.
Last year I went because I had large blotches on both my arms, which no one in FL. could determine what was the cause. Dr. Kerner, took one look, and said it was from the sun, and proscribed zink and vitamin C. The blotches disappeared within a month, and have not returned. I was very impressed. He is also very warm and friendly.

Very thourough treatment - probably 50+ spots were frozen. No explanation as to whether they were actual skin cancers or suspicious spots. Although insurance covered the treatment, it did seem quite expensive.
