AH/L Services LandscapingWith how poorly some of my experiences with landscapers and other service providers have been since I owned my house I was hoping for good, but not expecting what I got. Mike White, the owner of H/L Services is a professional, in every sense of the word. Lets start off with getting in touch. The ad for the service on Angies List (AL) didn't state if he covered my area or not. As Los Lunas is pretty distant from Rio Rancho, I contacted AL to find out if he serviced my area. They said he did, but also gave me his name and number to call and confirm. Mike got back to me within 36 hours and confirmed he could service my area. Even better, he told me that he could do the work on the following Tuesday if I wanted as he would be in my area. I purchased the deal, scheduled the date on AL, and he responded promptly that he'd be there. He called 10 minutes before he was going to be there to let me know (my son showed him around and what we needed done), and was busy at work by the time I got home. Mike parked his vehicles out of the way so I could get into my driveway, and even had orange cones next to the back of his trailer so no one could miss it. I met Mike and his co-worker and they were both very friendly, open to discussion and general conversation, and were very professional the entire time. While trimming my tree he gave me some advice on how I could better take care of it, and also answered all of my questions. He didn't push any extra services on me, and was fantastic to work with. I asked for some information on what else they do and he provided me with a brochure and gave me some ideas on what he's done that were similar to what I'm looking for. ANarrow Leaf IncThe shrubs in the front of the house we recently bought were all way beyond their prime so we decided to rip them all out and plant new ones. All the plantings in the large back yard were also a complete mess, so we decided to start anew with them also. There was also a huge, ugly and useless concrete slab that had to go. And the perimeter wall in back was too low to provide any real security and privacy, so it had to be raised. Based on Angie's List recommendations we called Tom Brasby of Narrow Leaf Landscaping. He came right over and gave us a quote for the masonry work, and we agreed on time and materials for the tear out work. His crew of Carlos, Daniel and Adrian came over the next Monday and started work. And do I ever mean work ! They literally busted their backs for the new five and a half days and tore out everything ! Trees, stumps, shrubs, gravel, concrete slab, etc., and finished the wall extension including the finish stucco. I was truly amazed at how hard they worked and what they accomplished. They'll be back next week for phase two. Plant new shrubs out front and two big pine trees in back; prepare about 100 feet of beds and plant shrubs and vines in back, and completely redo the irrigation systems in front and back. I know they'll once again do a superb job. Tom and his crew have been a real pleasure to work with, and Tom's advice about what we should plant and when has been invaluable. I consider myself very fortunate to have found such a great outfit to make our outdoors beautiful and livable.- william c.

ARamirez Landscape & MaintenanceI contacted Daniel Ramirez after reading positive reviews on Angie's List. I called and left a message; he returned my call within 30 minutes. He was able to stop by the same day and walk around property to give an estimate. He wrote it all down and provided an invoice - we paid $75 to the job started and he said balance wasn't owed until he finished and we were pleased with work. Daniel and his crew worked a few hours on a Thursday and finished it up for us early Saturday morning (no work done on Friday). He was in communication to advise of when he'd be arriving and let us know when unable to make it so we were never left hanging as to when he was going to be there. He was there the entire time working alongside his crew. We are very pleased with his work and had him estimate additional work that we are going to schedule at a later day (replace backyard bubbler system and piping for perimeter planter box and rock landscaping). Additionally, he provides yard maintenance service that I'm going to take advantage of - when I asked how often he recommended, he said to call him when it's needed. So no need to commit to weekly or even biweekly....we're going to see how it does now that we have it all cleaned up and give him a call.- Jennifer D.

AMontoya Landscaping & MaintenanceThe work was executed promptly and competently. Leroy asked for our approval of the work, and willingly made the changes that we suggested. It's hard to compare Leroy's charges with other contractors that we've hired, I'd guess that he was a little more expensive than some others. AMontoya Landscaping & MaintenanceI was collecting estimates for a job I wanted the project completed before the following spring. Leroy Montoya said his crew could be on the job on the next day (August 30th). They showed up on the next day and were finished in a week. The back yard turned out beautifully. I never used to even go in my back yard because it was so neglected and unpleasant. Now the back patio is my favorite place on the property. AThe Leather ApronHe did a wonderful job. However when I called him to return he said it was not worth it to him to drive from Cerrito to Taos for a small job. I had hoped he would be able to combine my job with another person's job in Taos. But he was not able to do this.- Anna W.

ALyons Handyman Yard ServiceIsiah was very professional and helpful. He priced the job and since he was a professional, I asked him to select the correct paint which I picked up at the store so I could put it on my credit card. Since I sleep most of the day, he scheduled the job so he wouldn't be making noise near my bedroom. He and his brother, who helped him, were very professional, scraping the deteriorating paint off and sanding the wood before application of the paint. He also does sprinkler and yard work. He is in the process of installing a new sprinkler and relocating another one for me.- M Andrew W.

A(1) Margo and Benny's team cleaned our windows (inside and out), scoured and cleaned all surfaces, vacuumed, shop-vac'd in tricky places, dusted, swept, and mopped a house that hadn't been cleaned properly in years. They arrived on-time and got right to work, were polite and responsive when we made special requests (such as avoiding harsh chemicals or strongly aromatic cleaners), and finished on time. The cleaning bill came in at $751.69, which was consistent with the estimated amount. (2) On a separate day, Benny arrived early with three additional men and several trucks to help us with a "hybrid" move; that is, we packed things and they moved it all. They moved a great many pre-packed boxes as well as all of our furniture. They set things up where we asked for them to and were ready to disassemble and reassemble furniture whenever necessary (or just give me free tips on how to do it myself). They were careful and attentive and finished the job in under three hours, and the bill came in at $785.33, well under the maximum of the range that Margo gave us when she gave us an estimate. I would happily hire them for an across-city move again.
