  • They could be a little more straightforward about the work they are doing on the car. The person who was working on my car smelled really bad. He has really toxic breath and he physically smelled bad. Unfortunately, he was the one who had to come to me and give me information about doing the repairs. I usually do not generally pay attention to that, but it was where I did not want to be near the person. They should help their personnel to be more hygienic. The actual work they did was good quality. The waiting area was nice. The manager was very nice and helpful. I am less likely to use them again.

  • bad experience oil chang and sensor replacement went well. roof antenna was different story. The roof antenna has been been getting loose since we have had the car. the service person stated to my wife(very condensending to her) that we must have backed into something etc. I called him and he stated the same thing. I told hin it was a fit and finish issue. he stated that his descion was basically final and for me to take pictures and he would ask his manager. I took the pictures which showed no damage to the roof or antenna. called Garcia the person in service dept gave me the number to send the pictures to I did and got no response. I have since taken the car to an shop spent money for an independent opinoon. They ageed with me , a fit and finish issue. It seems to me that Garcia did not want to do or did not have the ability to do the work. We have been with Garcia for along time. We may move along.

  • My first 2 visits in 2013 were wonderful. Vince made it clear that customer satisfaction was top priority. I was treated with respect. The estimate was accurate, fairly priced and work was done quickly and properly.
Now it's April 2014 and everything has changed. A fellow from England named James has taken over and it seems that selling parts is more important than fixing the problem. Charging for time spent is more important than diagnosing the problem. We all make mistakes but I don't charge other people for mine.
Since previous visits went well, I tried Nob Hill again. I live 30 miles away and left my car overnight for them to analyze it and put together an estimate. When we spoke the next morning, they had replaced the spark plug wires and coil pack and wanted over $530 total to complete the job. I stopped by to hear it run and speak with the mechanic who also recommended new spark plugs and cam sensor.
I had replaced the spark plugs only 200 miles ago so that was a surprise. $12 for plugs a few weeks before and they wanted $60 for parts and $136 to install them again? I decided that should be last on the list - if all else failed to fix the problem.
When I arrived, It ran no better than when I dropped it off so I asked if I could work on my car in their parking lot. James said OK so I bought and replaced the cam sensor myself which did help. We dug the old coil pack out of the trash and found the new one was defective. After I put the the old coil pack back on myself, it worked just fine and the car ran smoothly as it should. After hours of arguing with James, and being told that since I approved the work, I had to pay for the coil pack. Even if it was defective and didn't help??? Being unable to speak to his superiors, he finally took the coil pack off the bill and I "only" paid $350 for their services, not $530 where we started out.
They recommended a new serpentine belt which I agreed was worn and cracked but I decided to do it myself when I got home. Cost me $46 for a better quality part and took 15 minutes in my driveway to replace it. They wanted $75 for the part and $52 for labor.
Their markup on parts is anywhere from 3 to 5 times their cost.
They also now charge a $104 diagnostic fee - even if you go with everything they recommend. Even if parts have a lifetime manufacturer's warranty, you only get the 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty from Nob Hill.  I was told that "everyone else in Albuquerque charges the same". I guess being better than the competition is no longer important. What a shame.
Normally you only pay a diagnostic fee if you DON'T have the work done. This fee covers their time to diagnose the problem and prepare an estimate which is reasonable - but only if you take it somewhere else to do the work.
The top of my bill says "The repair shop you can trust" and I remember when I could. Until they once again put customer satisfaction, accurate estimates and fair prices at the top of the priority list, I will not spend another penny at Nob Hill Auto.

  • After reading good reviews at Angieslist I drove there this morning and spoke to Vince at the front desk. I will be driving my van with 270,000 miles to Memphis and the A/C wasn't working very well. They got it in the shop within a few minutes and found the A/C needed recharged. In less than an hour, it was all fixed and only $81 total.
Decided to go ahead with the recommended PS & Cooling system flushes. Flushing works far better than the "drain and refill" I can do myself. They also cleaned the battery terminals for free.
Sure made me feel a lot safer going on a 2000 mile trip. One of the best experiences I have had with an auto repair shop!

  • He's very upfront about what the cost is going to be and I trust completely that he's going to fix it and everything is going to be okay. His prices are competitive. I referred all my family to him and now most of them go there.
