    Fdp Builders
FDP Builders planned and built me a new basement family room with a half bathroom. They did excellent work, were very professional, and stayed within the budget they quoted me. I highly recommend them!

    M Mossey Builder Inc
Beyond Awfulj Job estimated for one month>6 weeks; 3 months and counting he abandoned job site. He started out nice; accommodating, but clear after seveal weeks that this job was going to be a nightmare, he; asked for payments before due;didnt finish what he was paid for, left our home in outrageous condition. Major issue was that Mr. Mossey represented himself as having a solid team. There was not a team from Day 1. His son, primary builder, quit after a falling out with him and took another job. This was known to him when he contracted with us and he didn't have decency to say he couldn't do the job. The first week his son came for a few hours at night and when I asked why, he said he had another job, He came several times but that dropped off. We are not sure of third main staff person he promised but we never saw him. He used his s-i-l who is a bartender as a painter. He was nice enough but had no other builder skills. He called in contract people here and there but mostly worked himself when he worked. He removed venetian lights from our house without permission. He asked for 6000 dollars 2 days before he abandoned job. He said he hurt himself but didn't respond to calls, texts, pleas to send workers while he recuperates and never contacted us with a plan to finish.. It is clear that he abandoned job with intention of taking our money. Of the 59000 we paid him he left over 20000 dollars of work. He left place in shambles, broke things, garbage all over outside of property..Not one room totally finished. .

    Ultimate Construction
The contract was signed and I gave a good faith deposit of $1250 (20% of the total). We were looking to start the first week of August. When August came I started to call the owner Sebastian requesting to start the construction as agreed. After much solicitation he said that he was behind with some work and we would be starting in two weeks. Two weeks went by and Leo addressed the fact that he was no longer with the company. Now a new person was in charge named Darrin Cole. He came to look at the space ( third walk through )and said that he could do the job in 3 days instead of the 2 weeks we were initially talking about. Some details about the contract were not sufficiently clearly defined or not defined at all. The waterproofing and finishing of the closet was not described. The installation of the windows was not in either. I tried to contact Leo to come and explain but there was no feedback nor he met with Darrin Cole to explain what he meant was needed to be accomplished. I had a very tight budget and I thought I'd get the window openings ready and then just pop the new windows when I could afford buying them (8 windows). Darrin was saying that it was easier to build the chase boxes having the windows to put in too. I ordered 5 windows, the shuttered ones. One more week went by and we couldn't start without having updated the permit with the Town. This was already discussed in July. Finally the building department declared that I needed a certified plumber and electrician for the installation of the toilet faucet and lights. I told the owner Sebastian that he could do some other work in lieu of that otherwise he owed me a credit since these jobs were not being performed anymore. His plumber's quote was $1000 vs mine for $350. |Darren sent some people to do some spackeling and at the end of the first day of work demanded from me $1000. I responded that I paid only the owner and that the contract provided only a deposit and balance at completion of all work. Also if he needed to pay his workmen I had already prepaid $1250 one month earlier. On the second day of work to my disbelief the workers had painted one coat of paint on the Sheetrock without even using the primer which was still sitting in my backyard and that I had solicited to bring indoors along with 10 bags of mortar I was asked to purchase for the job. |No stucco was done and all the imperfections were visible through the paint. One column was built and instead of being square wind up being rectangular. Darren himself said that the whole work needed to be redone and he would replenish the material that was wasted. I was quite unhappy. He was expecting to be paid for this horrible job from me. We talked again about the windows and he said that he expected $350 for the installation of each window! I have text messages showing how the price agreed with the owner was $350 for 5 windows or matching the same price of each window. The owner talked to Darrin and started telling me that the quote was not written in the contract and so nothing we said was valid. I was quite upset as even Home Depot as an outside contractor would have quoted me at least $100 less for installation of windows than this Darrin. |I followed these discussions in the following days forwarding to the owner our conversations about the windows and reminding him that besides these differences between us we were still very behind with work, I was put under pressure to provide even more money and what work was provided was highly substandard. We had also anotger 4 hours general contracting work which was never performed in my upstairs bathroom. This was the initial step into knowing this company through one of the deals... |I continued to call several times a day the owner reminding him that we had a pending contract and that I was tremendously behind with timing. School was resuming and I had to be already be done with the project. No response was ever received. My texts and voicemails were in vain. I contacted Angie's list for help interceding for me as if it wasn't for their representation of this company I would have never happened to call them over. |The loss of time was enormous. I bought a lot of lumber and metal sheets and mortar that was not needed to perform the job. I have to demolish and rebuild the faulty column and pay for someone else to stucco, prime and repaint all the areas. This is a cost for me. For all these reasons I ask that Ultimate Construction returns and credits me back the good faith deposit I exposed myself with. |if it wasn't for their representation of this company I would have never happened to call them over. |The loss of time was enormous. Unfortunately the lack of organization, communication, recklessness in overseeing the workmen and ultimately due to the poor performance I am unable to recommend this company nor can foresee resuming work with them in the near future.

    S. Scanlon Contractors
I hired James Marttine of S. Scanlon contractors to repair my damaged sun/screen room, which had partially
damaged roof an leaked water from heavy snow the month prior.
I searched for them on this list, but no review yet... ok not the end of
the world, plenty of contractors not reviewed on this list yet.
He came down and gave estimate of 7500.00 which seemed a little high, but I needed the room fixed.
I gave him 1/3rd  ( 2500.00) as a downpayment, and he was supposed to start work right away.
    I signed a contract ( as did he )
    Then, nothing,
No calls, no emails ...I called and called, and when he did pick up, he said he was busy etc etc.
He said he submitted plans to town, but when I called them ( the town construction/permit office )
they told me the plans he submitted were not up to code and he was notified to re-submit corrected copy.
    He never did.
This has been 3 MONTHS now - and no work started. I have been emailing him and calling to get by deposit back, but
it doesnt look like he plans on doing that, so the last resort is Small Claims court.
It looks like thats where we're headed. I plan to file in a few days.
(  I told him as much and will give the extra few days to see if I get a response )
This contractor is the reason Angies list is a must.
Steer well clear of S. Scanlon Contractors

    O'Meara Construction Services
We hired Rob OMeara and his team to work on the 83 year old house we had just bought. Prior owners had been there for 40 years but made very few updates, so we had a lot of ground to cover, and a very fixed budget.
We interviewed four contractors (including a highly rated one from Angies List) and chose OMeara Construction Services. Price was competitive and Rob was far and away the most knowledgeable of the contractors we talked to. We also felt he was the one who displayed the most pride in his work, and we couldnt be happier with our choice.
Rob and his team displayed wonderful craftsmanship (they beautifully restored original windows that had been buried under a plaster wall for at least 40 years and created a built-in dresser in master br), and found creative ways to retrofit many areas. For example, the kitchen had 30 to 40 year old counters/backsplash, flooring, and fixtures, but we did not have the budget to do a full rehab with Robs team we were able to create a lovely and fresh kitchen that looks like it is brand new, but was really a very affordable facelift. Our guests love the bright subway tile they put in, and the white marble window sill they added for a finishing touch.
Robs team tore down a wall in the kitchen to open things up, added two new window bays in other rooms, and a new shower in one of the bathrooms. They painted and plastered, and oversaw subs for flooring, plumbing and electric, including cleaning up
some unsafe electrical connections the previous owners had created, then added outlets throughout the house and a radiator in our sunroom. Rob and his team also rescued the hardwood floors that had been buried underneath carpeting for more than half a century.
What had been a rundown house looked beautiful and charming by the time we moved. Rob and his team were efficient and easy to deal with, cleaned up every day, and stayed within our budget.
More than anything else, we found Rob (along with his foreman James) to be trustworthy and transparent, and we appreciate that they took such good care of our house. They alerted us to any potential problems as soon as they arose and worked with us to find the most cost effective solutions. And no small thing OMeara Construction had a lot of experience and good relationships with the Towns inspectors and permits, something that, as first time NJ homeowners, we came to recognize was a big part of the process.
    We highly recommend OMeara Construction.

Luigi has a knack of collecting money up-front as services are started and he goes off to other jobs once money is collected.  What was supposed to be finished in one week took almost 2 months.  In addition, bad workmanship resulted in several jobs having to be redone that contributed to the long time frame.  For example, the bath floor tile had to be re-done 4 times before he got it right (it was laid flat without a tile towards the drain and had to be re-done over and over again). His workers are sloppy and broke several items around the house that were never replaced.  To make matters worse, on one ocassion, he left a worker behind at our house and never came back to pick him up.. I had to drop him at his house at the end of the day. Luigi did complete the job finally but his tactics are borderline crooked.  His prices are reasonable so it is tempting to want to use his services on price alone. Avoid using his services if you can help it.
