    GreenWorks Environmental LLC
After heavy rain, a large puddle forms in the center of my back yard.  It will be there for days before it's absorbed or evaporates.  Our yard is also on a slope so we're hoping to level it and fix our flooding issue.
We were setting up interviews for quotes and to find the right person for the job.  In my research for the right professional, I came across GreenWorks & I was really impressed by their reputation and credentials.  I told my husband to get in touch with them for a quote.  Through their website he submitted his information and within an hour he received a call from Victor Coppola.  Victor and another colleague spoke with my husband about our issue.  He seemed very impressive and knowledgeable.  He did a look up on public data of our house and knew it was on a slope, he was able to research our property from before the 1950's and even tell us the type of soil that we have in our area.  Victor followed up the teleconference with a very professional email to summarize the discussion and attached his 9 page resume and a couple other solicitations.
Unlike all of the other professionals we interviewed, Greenworks was the only one who charged a "$395.00 Visual Assessment."  This was the charge for them to come to our property, see our yard, provide a solution and a quote.
We decided it would be worth it to move forward and Victor handed us off to Melissa Coleman-Coppola to set a date for the Visual Assessment.  This is when it all went sour.
Melissa was very unresponsive.  My husband tried setting up a date for the Assessment.  He had to email her twice before getting a response.  Her response came days later and she simply said, "Sorry I missed your email.  Victor is available today at 10 AM".  Mind you, she was trying to set up the appointment 2 hours before the appointment.  We required more advanced noticed to accommodate our work schedules, since Victor is unavailable on weekends.  My husband sent several emails after to set a new date and we never heard from them again.
We are so turned off by the unresponsiveness and unprofessional that we could not secure a date for an assessment, which we were going to pay for!!!  The final email we went was to both Melissa and Victor, notifying them that due to the lack of response, we no longer want their services.  Of course, they had no response to this.

    Air Treatment System
Andy is so polite, punctual, knowledgeable and passionate about his work. It was a pleasure to work with him. The job was a dirty one, but he and his crew worked diligently and efficiently, until the job was done, it took a day. The area was all cleaned up (a major pet peeve of mine is a messy work area left behind). We also had an ozone generator in the studio for overnight and Andy was, again, on time and polite and working with our schedule, even though it was the weekend and he had an extremely busy schedule, as well. He was in constant email contact for any questions. His truck is well-kept. I appreciated the respect he showed the crew, which made for a pleasant working environment for everyone. Again, this was a dirty dirty job, but Andy rose to the occasion and did excellent work. I highly recommend Air Treatment System.

I have to admit I didn't shop around for prices but my inspector recommended him and the inspection price plus the radon price was cheaper than other inspection companies that included Radon detection. Luckily Mark was able to accommodate me on short notice and even came on a Saturday, the day we had the inspection. I received the report four days later.

First he was late, approximately 15 minutes late, which was disappointing since I understand now that many inspectors arrive a little early so that they can finish looking at the perimeter of the house. He had my realtor, my husband and me waiting after we rushed from work. He was also late when picking up the radon test when my realtor was waiting for him.
Overall, Mr. Polo knows his stuff. He spoke very knowledgeably about things. He also went under the deck to do a good oil tank sweep even though he said he usually doesn't do that. So I give him credit for thoroughness in that regard. In the end, if you just want a guy who will walk through the house, point out stuff you need to pay attention to while you take notes, then he's your guy. But if you are a first-time homebuyer and need someone who will do more hand-holding, show you how to turn off the water main, and stuff like that for example, or give you a really detailed report with pictures and arrows, then Mr. Polo is not the one for you. I learned this the hard way, but due to time constraints I couldn't get the inspector I originally wanted. Mr. Polo though accommodated my schedule, but in the end his services fell short.  His report is almost incomprehensible. There are unfinished sentences and no pictures, but he does get it to you quickly.  So if time is a factor that's another reason to hire him. But like I said, if you're a new homebuyer and need the report as a reference for future fixes and are not good at jotting notes during the inspection, then I would recommend going elsewhere if possible.

This was a smooth and easy transaction from start to finish. I phoned Andy on a Sunday and didn't expect to have my call returned until the next day, but he called me back a few hours later. He came out to provide a free estimate a couple of days later. I thought my problem was one of mold, possibly from a leaking radiator, as that was the area where the smell was strongest in my sunroom. However, when he came out, he showed me that the smell was actually rising through the radiator pipe hole from the crawl space beneath. The former owner of my house had put cardboard in the insulation in the crawl space and animals had burrowed into this and defecated. The strong smell of their droppings was what I had mistaken for mold odor. Andy explained what he would do to remedy this. He also looked at the insulation in my attic. My attic floor was insulated, so the insulation in the eaves was superfluous and could cause mold issues. When I was in the process of buying my house my home inspector had suggested that this be removed. Andy said that would not be a problem. I arranged for the work to be done a couple of weeks later, when I knew I would be on vacation. There was no problem in getting the day I requested. Andy and his assistant Mike showed up at the agreed time and split up, one working in the attic, the other in the crawl space. They worked dilligently and cleaned the area very well, even removing some heavy items that the former owner had left in the attic, that I had been unable to lift and dispose of. I really appreciated little extras like that. The old insulation from both the attic and crawl space was bagged up. I believe they can take away the debris for an extra fee, but I was happy to simply store the bags in my garage and put them out incrementally with the trash. Both Andy and Mike were very professional and pleasant. I also received a pamphlet with information on people with whom Andy has worked in the past and can vouch for if I require other services. He also will be speaking with someone who can replace some latticework on the outside of my crawl space to make it more difficult for animals to enter from the outside. Between Angie's List and references from workers who've done good jobs like this, I feel I can hire confidently for all of the jobs that are sure to come along with an old house.
