Spine Care reviews in Toms River

    Brielle Orthopedics
Surgery was recommended, but I had to have it done closer to my daughter (and post-op caregiver) who lived 90 miles away in northern NJ. The surgery was performed at NYU Langone in NYC on Jun 11, 2013. I definitely would come to Brielle Orthopedics again for procedures not requiring proximity to my daughter.

Dr.   Sripad Dhawlkar performed the surgery.  Initially he stated it would take approximately  six hours, however the surgery lasted 8 hours.  The reason for the extra hours (I was told by his Nurse Practitioner, assistant) was he found something that didn't show up on the MRI and said "I have to address this because I have to give her the best mobility and freedom from pain". She went on to say that
he would not "close" until he accomplished that
Recovery in the hospital was brutal.   I needed three blood transfusions, and at one point staff thought I had a heart attack (which I didn't) because my vitals were below normal range and my blood count was low. Oh, and yes I was made to walk to the bathroom with assistance (not) Thank God for the morphine drip and two oral pain meds. I was on the cardiac unit for two days.  Dr. D came in a few times a day to observe me and read my chart.
I was rescued and transferred to the rehab unit where the fun of walking continued with a twist of therapy.  I was taken off the morphine drip which left the two oral meds.  My vitals were still low, but I was improving.  I remember once I was left in the big shower room down the hall so I proceeded to take a shower!  It was only until I was walking down the hallway till someone notice I was unattended (that would be one of the Administrators of the hospital. Dr. D. spoke with me several times while I was on this unit.
I was glad to be home, but still in a lot of pain, and fighting not to take the pain meds.  I couldn't roll an inch without being in pain.
I began in-home therapy after about a month, and was determined to get back on my feet again.  I advanced to out-patient therapy where I went for several months.
scouters weeks went by and I had my first post op visit and my "daggers" (souchers) removed.  Every month after that I received an Xray and follow up exam for a year.
I gave Dr. D permission to give anyone "on the edge" of having this procedure my telephone number to hear my story.  Several people called
I put my entire trust in Dr. D. because I saw in him compassion and confidence from the first time I walked into his office.  He explained everything by showing me my MRI pictures and he did not push the procedure.

They are wonderful. They have their own rehab, and they are incredible. They are just all around good. No matter when I call, they take me right away, which is nice. You don't have to wait for weeks. It's a very large and very clean facility.
