  • John and his staff were here quickly, after a major storm took down numerous trees in my yard. They showed up asap to remove the tree blocking the driveway and then returned the following week to remove the balance. I couldn't be happier.

  • I calledFriendly Tree as I had used them in the past. I did get them fromAngie's List. John came the next day and removed the trees from my office building driveway. Great job and good price. they could have charged more based on the storm. That is not how they operate. Never did they try and take advantage.

  • I chose to hold off on the work. They were responsive. They were professional and gave me the estimate relatively quickly and given me information so I was pretty pleased with the estimate that they gave me but it just wasn’t right at the time. My interaction with them was very good.

  • they came out to do the spring application. Called about brown spots on lawn came to look did some sort of application. Never came back for the rest of the services. I called to find out when they would be back left message no response. I proceeded to call and left messages from August to October and never received a call back and the services have never been completed. I had used them in the past and they had been very responsive but this year I am completely di- satisfied. No response from my 6 phone calls and messages. I am requesting a refund. I have to now find a new company to complete the lawn chemical and seeding process. I am hoping it isn't to late to get our lawn back to the way it was a couple of years ago.

  • Highly recommend. Great service at great prices. The owner works onsite the whole time as well. I would definitely recommend their Services. My entire family has used them for years. I've personally used them at least 3 or 4 times.

  • Starts off good with owner extremely attentive and around.  Gives initial impression that he's detailed, focused and will provide hands-on supervision of the work.  Some initial prep work completed in the fall after which he then asked for additional large deposits over winter/early spring because he said he pre-purchased everything and needs to cover the cost.  After that, things went downhill.

Was supposed to start right away in spring since pool was already dug and just needed the patio/fence so it could be completed.    When I contacted him shortly after, he said he was behind, gave reason, but would start the end of the next week.  Never showed and I continually contacted him weekly and he always had an excuse but claimed he would be there that week or next.  Went on for weeks and weeks and now the pool company keeps calling as they would like to finish.  Owner (Mike) continues to promise that we would be finished by memorial day even in Mid-May.  Master at stringing you along and blaming everyone but himself.  Famous words are we will be there and work straight through.  Never happened.  To be fair, I should point out that originally there was work that was supposed to be done the prior fall, however, the pool company had issues which prevented the landscape work from being completed.  While that was not this company's fault, Mike never said this would prevent his starting and finishing in the early spring and continued to make promises to that effect as noted above.  Some of the more crazy things he said...everyone is backed up and cant find a truck big enough for your trees.  Several times claimed the truck was all loaded and we will be there tomorrow or even that the truck is loaded and were on our way!! But no, not even then would he show. Once in a while at these times one person would show and do small things...

Finally in middle June he completes enough for the pool company to complete with the exception of the fence.  Tells pool company contact (who he knows) that he will be there to install the fence the day they fill the pool.  Doesn't show and I have a pool but fence not installed.  Several weeks of constant calling and he still doesn't install fence.  Finally meet with Lawyer and verbally threaten both pool company and him with lawsuit.  Finally installs fence and says everything else will be ready by July 4 when we have another party scheduled.  Plants many of the trees/shubs (definitely not all) and sod, but no irrigation for the trees/shrubs.  Just the lawn.  A mess, irrigation/drainage never works right and some trees/shrubs start dying. No barbeque, second party cancelled.

Constant calls, constant excuses, constant arguing where he would get angry and/or hang up when being questioned or called out on contradicting stories.  He also did work without getting inspection (as agreed he would but never did) and had constant stories about that as well.  Went though fall into winter with constant promises and some work being done but always piecemeal.  Never his full team "working straight through" and never any close supervision or attention to detail as things were typically not done right the first time and required constant re-working.  Finally fired him without the work being completed and bad trees being replaced despite his claims that everything was guaranteed and would be fixed in the spring.  No way we were going to spend another year being tortured.  Shame because he has the ability to do good work (some of his work/ideas we did really like), but doesn't deliver and we wonder what will go wrong next (eg all of the landscape lights are now not working and I'm still looking at some brown/dead trees that I cant wait for the warmer weather so I can have someone else fix).

  • One word.  Amazing.
We have used ARS before and Mike and his team were great then and they were great now.  In the past we used them to replace all of our gutters with covered units, with which we were very satisfied.  Here we were renovating the entire exterior of our home and after several months of other contractors coming in, Mike stopped by and in an hour had our business.  He was the most responsive professional we had talked to and provided the best price for the work.
ALSO, since we were very concerned about the small details, like wrapping 100% of all exposed wood in aluminum, and removing the gutters on the house before capping the old trim work so there wouldn't be rotted fascia board  behind the gutters, having someone who "got that" was important to us.  As a matter of fact, Mike was the only contractor who offered to remove all the gutters completely (included in his price) so that the work could be done properly.  All  the other contractors were willing to pull back the gutters and "see how much they could cover" of the trim, but none were willing to go the extra mile to do the job right - or they told us to have a gutter guy come and remove them and reinstall them when the job was completed, at our expense.
As for the work, lets begin with the roof - Complete removal and replacement.  Our roof was rotted in a dozen places and the repairs included replacing some rafters as well once the roof was opened.  This was way beyond what Mike had quoted us but - AMAZING - he charges us for the materials only, even though it took another 1/2 day to complete due to the rot. Also, I was doing some electrical work, running wires to new outside lighting locations and the roofers were patient and worked around me as I took advantage of the open roof to make my work easier.  This was a consistent theme throughout the job.
Next, construction.  We originally agreed to have ARS replace our kitchen window in the front of the house, replace two rear exterior doors with new insulated ones, and cut in a new door to the back of our garage.  All of that wass done beautifully.  They have a great carpenter who can basically handle all the detail work that you'd be worried would fall through the cracks with a roofing and siding team. Once the job started we also decided to replace a massive back window unit overlooking our yard.  It's a 5' x 7' picture window with two side units. Its was not problem for them, and again, the costs was extremely reasonable for an add on to the job.
Now for the main work, the siding.  We chose to use the Certainteed Vinyl perfection shingles in 7"  We like the look of them and really wanted a one and done solution for the house.  Our old cedar shakes were rotted through in many places and there was no saving them.  Once again, after the tear down, a nightmare of construction work to deal with the rot.  In a few places the rot was so bad you could see into the house once the shingles were removed, and the water damage was so bad around the garage they had to to rebuild and re-frame both doorways.  Again, not a problem for them, and the cost was labor and materials only.
Mike's team was also working our another team we hired to do some stone work in the front of the house and a replacement front patio.  They all got along and coordinated well so the job went smoothly for us.
IN addition to the traditional roofing and siding work, we also had some additional detail work done with Azek trim.  This included a building out a complete section of wall around our rear patio in Azek board and matching trim design.
All in all - DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this team.  We're very happy with everything they did, how much they charged, and how responsive they are to every request we made and continue to make.

  • I've gone through many landscapers and Tom is truly the best. He is polite, prompt, listens to your needs and provides suggestions. Tom and his team did an outstanding job! They hustle when they work and truly take pride. I plan on using Tom once the weather gets better to do a garden was and patio.

  • BVL was great.  The owner, Ben is a great guy and really works with you.  The job came out better than expected, and the workmanship is top notch.  I was very pleased.

Only drawback was that BVL was so super busy this summer I had to wait a couple of months to get them scheduled. So if you are in no rush then I highly recommend BVL for your next masonry project.

  • Roy is a professional and did a terrific job.  This was clear from the time of the estimate.  Roy identified the problem immediately and proposed only the work that was actually necessary.  By keeping the existing portions that were solid and using the materials that were not damaged, he was able to keep the price down for me.  More importantly, the final product was first class.  The patio looks like it was built by a professional mason - because it was.  Same with the front stairs.  There, Roy suggested a design which we were glad that we trusted.  It looks great.  Do yourself a favor and hire Roy.  Speaking from experience, there are many pretenders in the masonry and hardscape trade.  Roy is the real deal.   I would have been far better off if I started with him in the first place.
