Masonry reviews in Piscataway

    Falletta Masonry
Anthony came to my house to give an estimate on repairs for the concrete slab. After reviewing the condition of the slab, he gave me insight on the slab's condition that others did not point out, then suggested I save money on the repair by doing a fairly simple solution myself, which did solve the issue. I will keep him in mind when I get to the replacement of some brick stairs or other masonry work.

    Garcia's Construction and Design Inc
Jaime Garcia and his workers were respectful, hardworking, punctual and professional. Jaime explained in detail, exactly what would occur from the beginning to its final execution, in replacing the front sidewalk of my home. I am extremely pleased with the work that he and his workers did. I have already begun to discuss another job, to happen in the near future. I most definitely and highly recommend him.

Terrific! This is a top notch company that is highly professional. They explained exactly what was going to be done, they worked in a meticulous manner protecting the surrounding area and always cleaned up before they left. The steps are extremely well done, look great and, are guaranteed for 3 years. I couldn't be happier!! I plan to hire them for additional work and, highly recommend them! Very nice job - Thank You!! I'll come back when the railings are installed and provide a before and after picture.

    Howard Paving & Excavating Co
The reason I chose Howard Paving in the first place was because they told me exactly what they would be doing and how they would do it before we even got started, and I liked what I heard.  They were going to tear out and dispose of the existing asphalt, lay a bed of I5-grade crushed stone, and put in the Belgian block in the first step.  Then I would water the driveway daily for 4-8 weeks to let everything settle.  Then, they would pour 2-3 inches of new asphalt.  Since my driveway has a quite a steep slope and was completely falling apart, I felt this was a good approach for laying a solid foundation for the new driveway.  My biggest worry was that the new driveway would start to crack and sink the same as the old one.  (Only time will tell if this is going to happen, but I feel they did everything they could to avoid this problem.)
The crew showed up when they said they would.  They worked quickly and finished the first stage much faster than I expected.  Howard Paving has all the big machinery you could want for this type of job and they weren't shy about using it, even on my smallish driveway.  My only minor quibble, was that they cleaned up and left without a word.  But in fairness, my contact point with the company was easy to get a hold of and always answered my questions.  Actually, when there was a mixup with my phone number, he went above and beyond by stopping by my house in person to get it straightened out.
So I spent 8 weeks watering the driveway each day after they laid down the crushed stone.  I could see it compacting and hardening day-by-day, so I had a good feeling that I was laying down a solid base.  They told me to park our cars over it to help it settle, especially in the areas that the cars might normally sit.  This seemed like a good idea, and it's better than parking in the street for two months.
A word about the Belgian Block.  They were good about asking me if I wanted any cut-outs on the sides so you can get better access to the grass.  They did a good job with the block.  It's straight and solid as you would expect.  For the mortar joints, they actually inverted the joints to give it a unique look.  Instead of pushing the mortar inward to form little channels between each block, they inverted that and created little caps instead.  I was fine with that, but I wish they would have asked first.
The last step was to come back and lay the asphalt.  This was done very quickly, although it seemed they were spending extra time going over it with the compactor to make sure it was just right.  I see a little bit of a rise down the middle of the driveway, where the two "lanes" overlap slightly.  You will notice the same thing in multi-lane roads.  They used the same type of machine to lay and smooth the asphalt as you see when they are working on a highway.  So, I suppose, if my driveway had the same traffic volume as a highway, you might get some wear in the seam area, like you always see on a highway.  Again, not sure what could be done about that, and it's a low-traffic driveway after all, not an interstate.
We stayed off of the driveway for 10 days, and lightly misted it each day, like they said.
So overall, I am satisfied with the job.  And I learned a little bit by watching the guys work.
As for the pricing, it seemed like a fair price -- I didn't get a ton of quotes.  I was looking more for quality than for the cheapest price.  I paid $500 down, then $2250 after the crushed stone was laid down and the rest of the money after the asphalt was laid down.
They recommend a sealing coat after the first year.
This was pretty painless, other than two months of watering the driveway every day for about 10 minutes.  (Maybe I overdid that part?)

    Mario Grano & Sons

I've done many reviews over the years but this one is the hardest.

How do you sum up in a few paragraphs the positive impact made by Ben, Gene, Kathy and the entire staff of Mario Grano and Sons?

They are honest, hardworking, respectful and full of integrity.  My husband and I trust them completely.

They listen to the consumer's needs and wants.  My husband and I expressed the desire to use American made products and they found them for us.  During the initial visit you will be educated on what they do and how they do it.  Being a layperson where masonry is concerned, I couldn't understand the scope of their expertise until my work began.  As my husband and I watched them perform their various assigned jobs, it made us smile: haven't seen people we could confidently trust since the '60's!  (When the first generation started this business.)  It amazed us to see how each person performed his job with such a sense of pride and clarity.  An extremely dependable, happy and well trained staff; they arrived on time, left on time and cleaned up every day before they left.  If there was a rain delay for any given day, Kathy was kind enough to call first thing in the morning to advise us.

We had a custom design in mind and they had the vision to understand it and execute it perfectly.  They excel in custom work and also give invaluable advice for those that need help in designing their dream.

Their love for what they do shines through in each action they take.  These men are perfectionists!  My husband and I hold a deep respect for each person in this company.

Choose Mario Grano and Sons for your next job; it will not only be money well spent, you will be trusting your dream to the experts and the nicest people you've ever met!

    Falletta Masonry
Showed up on time and performed the work promptly.  During demolition, the concrete ended up being thicker than expected (TWICE as thick actually), but they were able to handle it well.
They were able to add some nice design flair and the end result looked great.  We also appreciated that they cleaned up the site afterward.
Bottomline, if I had to do it all over again, I would definitely call Faletta Masonry!

    Frank Vocisano Masonry
Franks responded rapidly and completed job within 72 hours of discussions.  Are preparing house for sale and he recognized need for quick repairs.  Second time I have used him for masonry work.  First time about $1000 for repairing front steps and side masonry along outside porch.  Great job both times.

    Frank Vocisano Masonry
A friend recommended Frank. Frank was timely, corrected all of the issues and left no mess. He repoured concrete where needed. He was careful not to destroy my shrubs and lawn. His price was very reasonable given the issues.  I am very pleased with the work and would recommend him highly to anyone

    A. PIGNA & SON MASON CONTR
I thought the estimate was high. The reason why they didn't do it is because I know the builder who built my home and I can get him to do exactly what I need for half the money. They came and gave a quote exactly how I expect them to give them a quote. They walked me through on how they will do the project. They ran some numbers for me. It's exactly how I expected them to behave. They showed up on time. They communicated with me.
