Chimney Repair reviews in Pennsauken

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • This job went beautifully. I called Angelo and left a message. He called me back within hours and set up an appointment to come and look at my damaged chimney. He quickly determined exactly what needed to be done and informed me of the process involved to do the job. This was quite technical. A massive scaffold needed to be built around the chimney to provide access to the top and sides. It should be noted that this would take place on a rather closed in back patio, with no real access to the street or driveway. Angelo's crew arrived on a Saturday morning right on time with all the specific items needed for the job. The scaffolding was loaded in a most professional way to allow it to be unloaded in exactly the right order for assembly. His crew of seven men carried the parts from my driveway to the patio and had the scaffolding assembled in about 2 hours! This scaffolding was about 30 feet tall and had to be cantilevered onto my sloping roof. Again, care was taken to seat the scaffolding on the roof so no damage was done to the shingles. With this constructed work immediately began. Each man had a specific job. While the crown was being prepped, the flue covers were removed and brought to the ground for rebuilding. At the same time a stone specialist was hard at work on the stone cutting and finishing for the missing stones. This was a real crew who knew how to work together in a hazardous situation. They worked with precision and assisted each other in a most fluid manner. No tools were ever dropped nor did anything fall to the ground. By the end of the day the crown was fully prepped for recementing, the flue covers were rebuilt and ready to install and the missing stones were cut and refitted and cemented into their holes. The scaffolding remained up over night. On Sunday the crew returned and quickly completed the cementing of the crown and checked the overall condition of the chimney. Small chinks were filled in and a waterproof coating was sprayed on the entire chimney. They even cleaned the flues with chimney sweeps. Now the scaffolding could be disassembled and reloaded back on to the trucks. This was all completed by about 1:00 PM and was the end of this part of the job. Two weeks later, over Thanksgiving, Angelo and his crew returned and completely repointed my walls. This again required the building of a smaller scaffold to go down the cellar steps. The walls were cleaned, the old mortar removed and prepped for the new mortar. The next day the new mortar was carefully installed. This was the end of the job. It went exactly as Angelo had described it. The chimney and walls are really new looking and add greatly to the look of my house! I will hire Angelo again!

  • DO NOT HIRE THEM. Canceled our service because they did not show on time. The owner and his employee opened with how dare I give their work away. There was no written proposal or signed agreement. The owner Mike preceded to call me names and cuss at me while I was holding my one year old. They are extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. DO NOT HIRE.

  • Several attempt they said were coming to give an estimate and they never showed....finally on day three without even notifying us they showed up at like 5:30 pm. Already lost interest and found someone else by that point.

  • Mr Cowan came out and assessed my problem with a failing Chimney. My chimney was crumbling from the inside and desperately needed a liner and some minor repairs. The pipe going from my heating system was barely held together and loose. Mr Cowan came out and assessed my situation and wrote up a fair estimate for the work. Mr Cowan and his team came over on X-Mas Eve and completed the work. They were professional , courteous and clean. If any one needs any kind of Chimney repair , Cowan,s South Jersey , LLC , is the guy to use. A+ service!! Tim

  • The interior plaster wall that is against the back of the chimney has been absorbing moisture.  It wasn't a leak, but it was enough moisture to slowly create a damp spot and crack the plaster.  From old patches, we could tell that this had been a long-standing problem (the house was built in 1920).  We have had a chimney liner put in, a new roof, and the chimney repointed from the roofline up.  We thought the problem was solved and took the plaster out, down to the chimney wall and then replastered - but with no success.  The damp slowly started appearing and spreading and then cracking (worse than before).  We were extremely frustrated and tired of spending so much money on this problem and still with no success.

Bob came out for a estimate and was extremely helpful and informative.  He did tell us that we were going to have wait for a season before replastering the wall, but once done, we shouldn't have to do it again.  Bob's plan was to repoint the chimney from the roofline down, and replace the flashing on the roof around the chimney (the North Jersey way).  He also said he would replace the stucco on the exterior wall where it looked like we had the moisture problem on the outside, seal the entire chimney and our brick steps at the front entryway (the steps were just a nice extra).

We had also requested an estimate from the gentleman that repointed the chimney from the roof line up (he wanted just under $6,000 to do the roof down and replace the flashing around the chimney).

Bob did everything but the stucco repair (it was not needed - it was just the paint flaking, not the stucco).  The job was done well (in 2 days).  They kept the area as clean as possible (difficult to do when grinding out the old mortar).  The job looks nice, and I keep feeling the interior wall (we have had lots of rain), but I think we are good - no moisture.  I am thrilled that this ugly problem is no longer looming over us.

I would definitely use Bob again.

  • I called for an estimate and talked directly with Geno. He came out the next day to look at the job. I received an estimate the next evening. It wasn't really an estimate, but a guarantied price. Compared to other estimates it was very reasonable. I liked Geno from the start and have learned to trust my instincts. They started the job the week he said they would and worked every day except Sunday till finished. Geno's crew were well seasoned professional installers who worked from sunup to sundown. They also cleaned up the yard every night before leaving. Geno came the last day to install the shutters and to do the final cleanup. I am very happy with the work they did, and have received many compliments on the siding. Overall it was a great experience with no problems or issues to deal with. A job like this could be a nightmare if you get the wrong company. I'm glad there are still honest
contractors out there, thanks Geno.  And thanks Angie's list.

  • Paul promptly returned my call after I left a voice mail requesting his services. He can over the next day, completed the inspection and the work needed. A quick, first class job, providing good insight on the questions I had with no pressure for more services than we needed. I recommend this company if you need an honest assessment and a good quality job at a fair price.

  • I had a leak in the second floor bedroom - outside wall near the chimney.  The chimney had been repointed, sealed, and a liner had been installed - still had the leak.
Chris came out (on a Saturday!) for an estimate.  He took pictures and showed us where he thought the problem was.  The first group had just slapped more cement over the cracks for repointing rather than cleaning out the joints - it was already cracking again.  The chimney cap and tile flue were also full of cracks - it's a wonder we didn't have a waterfall inside.
Chris offered a 10% discount if we gave him a decision right away because he could move his scaffolding over from a job finishing nearby.  We accepted and the scaffolding was up by Monday afternoon.  The job was done quickly and looks great.  Now we just wait and see if that solved the leak.
I would definitely recommend Chris and will certainly call him in again if the leak continues.

  • Chris came out right away and inspected chimney. Took photos and explained that our chimney was pulling away from the house. old house built in 1929 and chimney was not tied in correctly. A permanent repair would require a new chimney which we could not afford. Chris said a temporary repair would keep the weather and bugs from infiltrating the gap. We chose this route and Chris and his son came out on a Sunday, only two days later,to make the repair. Chris told us to keep a close eye on the chimney and call him if any problems occurred. Chris was punctual, professional and efficient, not to mention courteous throughout the process. We could have gotten more estimates but chose Chris because we trusted his judgment and ability to get the job done promptly and professionally. We were not disappointed.
