  • I was very upset as I was supposed to be the first procedure at 6:30 am. The machinery that is used to measure the pressure in the bile ducts had not yet been turned on and warmed up so I was going to have a little bit of a wait. In the mean time, another one of his associate doctors that was me assisting him that day asked me if my liver enzymes were ever elevated on blood work and I said yes, just the week before I was in the ER and my enzymes were elevated. I had discussed that with Dr. Elfant and given him a copy of that blood work when I went for my consultation so I was surprised he was asking. About and hour and half later the doctor came in and said that because of the elevated liver enzymes they no longer had to measure the pressure in my ducts and that they were just going to cut the liver duct and the pancreatic duct. I was never told to bring and over night back, or that I would be having any difficulities afterward so I was thinking i would go home and be okay afterward. I was really getting mad because it had been almost 4 hours and I was still waiting. I told the nurse that if I wasn't next that i was getting dressed and leaving. 25 minutes later he came in and apologized and said i was next. I asked him if I should worry about getting pancreatitis and he said and quot;you knew that was a possibility before you decided to have this procedure. no soothing words, nothing else to say as he walked out of the room. I was petrified. His associate Dr. was very sweet and comforting. I don't know for a fact but I think Dr. Lee performed procedure and not Dr. Elfant. He wasn't even in the room until they started to put me under. Dr. Lee was standing beside me getting the scope ready. I was in terrible pain when i woke up in recovery around 1:30. they let my family back to see me but I was there until 4:30 til they decided to keep me for pain control and observation. Dr. Elfant finally came to my room at 4:00 to say it was a good sign that I felt pain and that he was hopeful that I would be alot better. They said that if the next day my blood work was okay and I could eat solid food I could go home. Well I didnt eat at all that night because of pain and nausea and the next day all I managed to eat was dry toast but someone signed off that I had eaten solid food and I was released at 12:00 the next day. They told me to make a 2 week followup with Dr. Elfant They never told me that I would have problems eating for a while afterward or that I would just feel nauseated everyday. After 3 days at home not being able to eat, I called the office. I finally got a return call from the nurse practioner 4 days later. She said didn't anyone tell you that your stomach would feel weird for a couple weeks afterward and the eat a bland diet?k I said no. the paperwork said nothing about. In fact, it says you can return to a regular diet right away. After that I continued to have trouble eating and I called to make me 2 week followup I got no reply after 4 days so I called again. They finally called me back and said that Dr. Elfant would not approve a visit for followup and that I could see one of his associates. He would see me however if I decided to have another ERCP to have my pancreatic duct cut. I was so upset. He said he was too busy with his cancer patients. Really???? Trust me. I understand that cancer patients need care but don't I as well deserve the same respect?????? There are other doctor in the practice who are caring and that I would go to which is why I said I would go back to the practice but I want a doctor that will follow through with me. Not just operate on me and then drop me. I will say that there aren't many GI docs that perform the ERCP and that he is one of the best. hes just not warm and toasty I think hes too busy to followup with all his patients.

  • He took all his time with me and he told me we would get to the bottom of it.   He scheduled me for surgery the following week.   He diagnosed me interstitial cystitis and started me on medication to treat it.   He truly cares about his patients.   that is very rare in a doctor.     His receptionist even called to check on me a few days after surgery and the following week.   I would high;y recommend him.

  • Dr. Mohamed M. Salem is our primary care physician. He's thorough. We like him. I went to see him in January 2009. It's not hard to get an appointment with him. The office environment is very nice. The staff is friendly. Dr. Mohamed makes sure I know what's going on with my health. Overall, it's a good experience when I have to visit this doctor.
