AMagnolia Home Remodeling GroupWe worked with Chris from Magnolia on a second floor remodel and were extremely happy with the process and results. The reno included demolition, framing for new roofline and dormers, roof and gutters, siding, new master bathroom, master closet, laundry space, wood floor and stairs, doors, millwork, tiling, masonry for a chimney extension, windows, and central air system. Chris is a great guy, very easy to work with it, trustworthy, and responsive. He hires skilled subcontractors and kept the reno moving at a good pace. There were no surprises with either the budget or scope of work. Magnolia made our dreams come true with this reno and we would definitely recommend them for your job.- Beth H.

AMagnolia Home Remodeling GroupWe had a three “room” project completed in November 2020: Framing - Removed back wall of house and part of the roof, rebuilt ceiling, installed beam, and rear wall Kitchen/Dining Room - Full gut job….new electrical, insulation, walls, floors, backsplash, appliances, paint, fixtures, etc. Deck - New from scratch. 17x17 with a pressure treated frame and timbertech composite decking, rails, balusters, steps, etc. ...since they were going to be replacing the roof where the new section was built, they also replaced our entire roof. The cost was reasonable relative to what it would’ve been to replace just the smaller portionn of the rebuilt roof. The subcontractors were all very professional and quality was high across the board. Here are the important points: -Communication - Stellar for the entire duration of the project (negotiating, permits, selections, day-to-day, inspections, etc.). Vic was our point person but had another person help when needed (permits, payments, etc.). When I needed something, it was Vic I worked with. We worked almost exclusively by text but got on phone calls when the situation called for it. -Schedule - Before we started the project, Magnolia claimed the project would take 4 months. I believe this would’ve been projected to be 3 months if we weren’t operating in a pandemic but the materials were a concern based on the initial plans the architect drew up. The entire project ended up taking 9 weeks from demo day 1 to the final inspection. Very impressive. -Pricing - Magnolia is not cheap but you’re paying for a contractor that’s experienced and proven in certain areas (e.g. kitchens, roofs, etc.) and has established relationships with the subcontractors they use. -Subcontractors and quality - Kitchen designer was flexible with what we were looking for but we had another kitchen that we used as a near mirror-image of what we wanted. The one thing that may be a concern here is that if you don’t know what you want, there might be a lot of back-and-forth to arrive at a final design. Roofers, tile/paint crew, etc. were all top notch. Overall a great experience. This was a high anxiety experience going in and Vic was professional and kept things moving very quickly and well ahead of schedule.- Anthony D.

BAmerican Home Remodeling IncI don't want this to seem like a negative review because their work and reviews speak for themselves. I am unable to provide an accurate review due to the limitations of the company's ability to do work within condo/apartment buildings. I can't blame them but their insurance company doesn't cover them. So, I guess this is more of a FYI. I am sure this is a great company to partner with for home projects. In our building next to Penn Station is a converted loft that used to be a button factory. Each unit has exposed brick, exposed beam, and exposed duct work which is rare for this area. These are deemed as New York-style lofts. There are 17 units in our building and all are individually owned. There are 14/17 units that are owner-occupied and everyone has their own contractors coming in pretty consistently to upgrade or make changes to their units. It's unfortunate and we looked forward to working with this company. I wish this company continued success and a great 2021. Sorry that your insurance providers wouldn't allow you to work with condo buildings.- Chadwick P.

BAmerican Home Remodeling IncThe end product is nice. My kitchen is very nice and functional and the basement is definitely better with the new door and bilco door. However the estimated timeframe of my project was supposed to be a month and a half however everything was completed within 3 months. There were times where they were not working on my house for weeks. Had to remind them numerous times on things that were not completed. I asked for the detailed listing of expenses that included material cost and labor compared to the budget and never received that.- Jessica S.

AJBL HOME IMPROVEMENTS INCThis is our second time using JBL home improvement. Dave and the JBL crew are excellent people to work with. They started work right away and Dave kept us informed of possible delays with furnishings due to the Pandemic. He always followed up with the cabinet and granite manufacturers and kept us informed of their progress. The crew was excellent and clean. Everyday they left all work areas clean. They always gave us options and opinions for furnishing placement. We are looking forward to using JBL for our future home renovations.- Joseph C.

AMajor Homes CorpBudd and the teams he had working on our house project were very professional and genuinely nice people. Because of Budds project management skills, the house project was completed in 3 months when other contractors told us it would take 6- 8 months! Budd was very responsive and quickly addressed issues and any problems that arose. We spent a little more than we wanted as there were extras that ended up costing us more but we would hire this company back in a heart beat!- carmelina l.

CWe went with Nick and Single Solutions as we felt he was very knowledgeable, trustworthy and fair in his pricing. His main worker Pete was a pleasure to work with and great with our kids as he was in our house daily everyday about 8am. The project started off great and stayed that way most of the time, but somewhere in the middle it seemed Nick became frustrated with the project and started to moan about the price and how he was giving us "many freebies". While I am sure he may have given us some "freebies" in the middle of the project, he should not be huffing and puffing about it to us. As well, if he didnt price the project accordingly, that is his fault and not something to take out on us. Around this point, it did not seem like he cared about our project anymore and just wanted to get it over with, which is a shame because I had many neighbors ask me about the work and if we would give a recommendation at the end, since everyone is always looking for a good contractor to have. Towards the end of the project, Nick came to me with an additional invoice for some services we did add on, like painting our foyer and fixing a few interior steps, but he also added on a few "nickel and dime" charges like installing a light fixture in the hallway off the kitchen(which was part of the reno). The light fixture was also not new and was there before we reno'd the hallway, so the electric box and all was there. He also demanded payment on the invoice that same day Friday, and when I said I would pay him after the weekend on Monday, he threatened to leave our gas line open and walk away for the day(which he was working on at the time for the oven in the kitchen) while we were about to leave for he weekdn. That was very unprofessional and scary, and not something I ever expected from a contractor who had good reviews/recommendations in Angies list. I ended up turning my car around 20 minutes into my trip, drive home so I could have a check for him waiting when he was done for the day for that additional invoice. When my family and I returned home at the end of the weekend, we found our new oven left on at 550 degrees while we were away. Nick and Pete claimed that was an honest mistake, which it could have been, but the previous threat coupled with the oven left on, made me very nervous to have them back in my house the following day. Due to some delays on their end, Nick and Pete did finally return to finish the project, and we were able to talk out these issues and end smoothly. If you choose Nick in the future, I suggest you hire your own or make sure Nick subs out for a painter. Nick and his son did the painting for this project and it was below average at best, with a lot of spots not done carefully or nicely, even after we had to point it out a few times. Overall the experience was OK and we are happy with our new kitchen and the work, but unfortunately experienced some hiccups along the way.

ASaul and his team did my mother's bathrooms - they did a great job! With the first floor bathroom, we converted the bathroom to a shower so that it would be more accessible to mom in her elderly years. We changed the plumbing and installed all new fixtures. He changed out the window and installed new bathroom tile. Saul was great at communicating and troubleshooting. I highly recommend him and his team.
