Masonry reviews in Montville

So happy with the 2 jobs Roy Targia Masonry completed. Our pavers around the pool were all sunken from a poor original installation and the coping was all cracked and loose. Roy was great to deal with when we had to discuss any issues with the site as things were uncovered, and his prices were very fair based on other estimates I received. He was always available to answer my questions and provide advice. Roys extremely professional and efficient crew tore it out, fixed what needed to be fixed and laid a great design with flowing curved edges and beautiful coping detail. We added a walkway from the pool area and also had our long front cement walkway removed and replaced with matching pavers. I couldnt believe it only took a week; everything is graded nicely and ready for new grass and plantings. Joe, his foreman, also made sure to touch base with me to check on aesthetics and make sure I was happy with the progress. Overall, so happy with the new look in the front and back of my house and extremely happy with the ease with which it happened.

He was sort of a general-purpose provider for gutter cleaning. It was bundled into a few other services that they did. The masonry work was about $2,500 and that turned out to be very satisfactory. The gutters and the ceiling fan, and the painting work was about $500 and that turned out fine. Their responsiveness was no problem. Their professionalism is probably what I liked the most about them.

John's men did the work, I thought. However, they fooled me with much of the work. The work that was not done properly includes the flashing which was coming off the same day they installed it (it was not properly secured when it went around a corner of the chimney), they used the wrong color shingles when they removed the old exhaust fan and replaced the hole with shingles and, there are still some holes in the cement between the bricks that were supposed to be filled. I called John and he came back quickly to put a screw into the flashing but nothing was done about the shingles or the holes. The next day another corner on the chimney had the exact same problem and all it needed was a screw to be installed correctly. That same day he promised to come back to finish the work. It is July 24 and I am still waiting. There are quite a few excuses for not coming back and I still have them in writing through texts. He says he will be here to fix the problems but doesn't show up. After a few weeks he tells me he is in Florida as someone is very sick. The Florida illness, if real, lasted about 2 months. Apparently he closed down his entire business while he was away even though his workers do the vast majority of the work while he is on the phone. He did not call as promised when he came back from Florida but I, as I had been doing, contacted him and he said he was back and would come by the end of the week. No show. Same story the next week. Not so surprising, just last week he says he is ill and is in the hospital. I don't believe anyone was in the hospital at all and even if someone was, he should have fixed the problem long before going to Florida and when he didn't, he should have fixed them when he got back but he didn't. I told him about a leak still around the chimney which is exactly what he was supposed to repair but he doesn't care and will not fix the problem. A few weeks ago I went into my steep wooded backyard to cut down weeds and found 2 chimney caps and all the bricks that he took off the chimney. He or his men simply took everything that was supposed to be hauled away and threw it from the roof into the backyard. No response from him about this. They promised to take everything away but lied so I had to do it myself. I also found tar on my deck but he could not care less. He got his money and fled. Basically, I believe he is a con-artist as he talks a good game and makes it look like the work is being done properly but it really isn't. The "warranty" he provides is not worth the paper it is written on. It is as valid as his words (many of which are in texts which I may publish here). I repeatedly asked him if he is really coming back as I would simply hire someone else as there was a lot of rain and he kept up with his empty promises. The very subpar job he did still allowed water into the house but he didn't care. He told me the work he did would stop water from coming in but when I told him it was still leaking he simply replied that roofs leak. Well yes they do and that is exactly why I hired him to fix the roof. If you are interested in hiring this company you are risking your time, money and the safety of your home (at least if you have a leak problem). If John tries to claim on here that he did a good job or I am not stating the truth, I will be happy to post the texts. John knows that I am writing this horrific review of his "company" and that I am taking him to small claims court for the amount I have to pay to fix the terrible job he did. It would not have taken long to fix but he decided to be foolish and not take the time to do it. Now John says in writing to go ahead and put in a bad review if I want as he has 14 good reviews. I think it is fewer than 14 but that is a very low number even if it is true compared to other contractors on angieslist. I called him a dirt bag since he never came back to fix anything and his response, through text, was "**** u and court it will take a year I got a lot of money for people like u and so I wish the best" Just wanted to show people what I am dealing with (this could be you too); a guy who is proud that he gets a lot of money from people like me (I take this to mean his clients are suckers and he is rich by doing shoddy work). The bottom line is that you should not hire this company. UPDATE: John, who I think is a criminal since he stole money by his action of refusing to finish the job, texted me last Wednesday saying he would call on Thursday the next day to let me know when he is coming to finish the work. The only reason he texted me after months of not hearing from him is because I complained to Angieslist. However, as completely consistent with his past inactions he did not call on Thursday so I contacted him on Friday and he said he would be here Monday (today is Tuesday). As expected, of course he did not show up on Monday or respond to several texts on Monday about what time he would arrive. I decided to put all texts from Wednesday through Friday on this review so others can see how slimey this guy is. Sure he has some A reviews it is possible that they may be by people who did not look at work done on a roof. I had a different roofer come for a different problem and he looked at the chimney and told me the job was not done properly. I did not need a roofer to tell me that the flashing was coming off, the shingles were the wrong color or that dozens of bricks and 2 chimney caps were thrown in the backyard. He only told me about the cement between the bricks not being completed. If you want to hire a dirt bag who may not show up even a day after the job is completed like in my situation, go ahead. The following are the exact texts from last week: John: 9/28/16: Bob wow u got so much to say it's all good my friend do u see all my great reviews really I can't believe the b******* u are saying but its cause god don't like evil because I'm a nice great guy please send me the Address and I'll fix has to be like this week and let me take of it and really don't say to words to me not hi or buy let me do it and got thank u. Me: Need to know when you are coming. John: I will call you tomorrow to let you know when I will be there Me: Comments - Ok. Clearly he admits the job isn't done as he will come to "do it". He is so friendly too with saying not to speak with him as if I, who paid him in full, did something wrong. Me: Friday 9/30/16: John, didn't hear from you about when coming to finish job. What is the story? Need to know if you are jerking me around again or if going to finish the job you were paid for. Just let me know. John: Bob u got a big mouth who do u think u are talking to. Told by sat. Note from me - if look above he said would let me know by the next day Thursday not Saturday. Me: No you said "I will call you tomorrow to let you know when I will be there. That was Wednesday and I reminded you yesterday and again this morning. John: I really don't no if I should you are A problems u are giving me problem all ready. Help Me: Ok. You said u would call and you didn't and I am giving u problems? So now you will let me know tomorrow? So, on Saturday October 1, 2016 you will let me know when coming to finish job? John: Stop breaking my ball or I'm not coming how's that Me: Just tell me when. You are the ball buster. What is so hard about this? John: What are you doing about the review Me: You are asking me to change it before you even tell me when you are going to finish job? John: Are u going to change It Its going to rain everday lets do it Monday end of day lets make official Me: Ok, you are saying u will b here Monday end of day. I hope u show up. Know what color shingles to bring? John: Ed (sic, wrong name) let me do this please Me: Address is ____________________. See u Monday near end of day. Please leave enough time to do roof etc before dark. Thanks. Me at 2:54 pm Monday 10/3/16: Need to know what time you are going to be here. Thanks. Me at 4:24 pm: Please let me know what time you will be here or if you are not coming. Want to be home for you. Me at 6:03 Obviously you screwed me again. You wasted my time for the last time. See you in court. Better yet, don't show up. Why? Ask a lawyer. You will be wasting much more time than it would have taken to fix job you were PAID for. Hope angies list bans you after they hear about this. Comment: I have not heard a word from John since last Thursday when he promised to finish the job on Monday.

They were very prompt in all steps of the procedure.  They showed up when they said they would and worked continuously on the project until it was finished.  They were very professional.  The work is beautiful and matches very well to the granite work on the exterior of the house.  They were also very responsive to any questions.

The crew arrived on time, was very respectful and worked diligently to complete the job. The courtyard came out beautiful. The lighting is spectacular. The team highlighted the stone fireplace and slate roof to add a very dramatic affect to the entry.

The job went flawlessly. The repairs were completed the following morning after I called and everything is great. The work was professional, the contractor was very knowledgeable and professional, and there was no mess (sheetrock repair can be quite messy!)
Now the price is likely going to be higher than hiring your average neighborhood handyman, however what you get is a service that is generally more professional, reliable, and timely than your average neighborhood handyman. Add in the fact that they are fully insured and that you get a written guarantee backing up their work, and it's easy to see why this service is a good choice.

I left a message for Matt.  He called back the same day & we made an appointment for him to see the sidewalk & discuss the front porch.  He showed up promptly & walked around with us.  He explained what he would do for the sidewalk sections & the porch.  We asked him to quote several options for the porch, which he did.
After the first quote, he gave us a few other suggestions for the porch that he felt were a better way to do the job & more attractive.  One of these was a difference of only a few dollars; the other cost nothing extra.  We felt that he was right & agreed to do both.
He promised to do the work in less than a week & showed up with one crew to do the sidewalk & one to do the porch on the first day.  He finished on schedule for a reasonable price that included his Angie's List discount.  The work looks great.
After the job was finished, my wife was unhappy about the appearance of two sidewalk sections that had been repaired (patched) although this was what we had asked Matt to do.  He wanted us to be satisfied with the result so he offered to return another day & replace the two sections completely at a minimal cost.  We agreed & my wife was very happy with the result.
Throughout all our discussions with Matt, he was professional & easy to talk with.  He responded quickly to questions by phone & email.  We highly recommend him.

Andrew was responsive and explained the work he was doing on the facia brick and why it came loose. His other mason did the chimney and it came excellent. Andrew then filled in the sink hole at the driveway drain with cement and fixed all the cracks in the foundation walls that we could find at the time. will use Real Mason again for additional work on the front brick face of the house.
