    Dr Karen Thornton and her Staff refused give me an appointment for follow up care for my emergency surgery.  They said it would cost me $550.- out of pocket cost JUST TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT!  THis was a basic no frills request to check my injury/stitches after ten days. They were really rude and would not consider an appointment for me even though I had a referral from the emergency room doctor naming Dr Karen Thornton and referring me to her.
           In the past my experiences with this physician and her office Staff were such that the office would never return phone calls when messages Were left on their answering service.  The office staff would never call back if they told me they would call back. The doctor would not call me if the staff told me she would. 
          The office was often quite busy and understaffed. The staff was usually too preoccupied and overburdened to give good service, at times too overburdened to give ANY service.  Often, the only way to get an appointment was to call the doctor directly on her  " emergency " number.  The office was often SO busy it seemed impossible to get any level of care that could be deemed more personal than "VERY DISTRACTED"  Bedside manner was non-existent to mildly annoyed.
        The office is completely covered with posters signed by the casts of Broadway musicals.  Dr Thornton seems pre-occupied by meeting celebrities and Broadway stars.  Having seen her fawn over a minor actor who had a head cold I realized her demeanor toward celebrity patients seems much more attentive than her level of care for the rest of her patients.
      This office is like a patient factory, " Get 'em in, Get em out, get Their money"  If you want a  physician who is caring, thorough and professional, I recommend you look elsewhere!

    I have been taking my father to him for about a year. We chose him because of his association with the Hackensack Hospital and it is easy to get in. I am quite pleased. He is generally responsive whenever we have any questions or want any follow up.

    I like him. I like his staff. I like his manager, his nurse. There are times there is a wait but he takes care of you. If it wasn't required to have a primary physician, I wouldn't have him, I would just have doctor Perlman.

    She is another one I have been seeing her for 25 years probably too. She is primarily a gerontologist with underlying general practitioner, internist, whatever you call it. When I started with her I probably was her youngest patient. She is very nice. She is open to alternative medicine concepts as well. When you want to talk about that a lot of doctors are not too good about that. She is very open to discussing those kinds of things with you not just scientific medicine and she go to for you with your insurance company if there is something that you need might be a little bit tricky with the insurance company of ejecting it right out she will go to that for you. The staff are friendly and very nice. I would continue to use her.

    She is very warm and friendly and she likes go to relationships with you because you know for a women her gynecologist is the person you talk to about everything. She definitely will listen and helping you work through whatever you need to. I have been seeing her probably for 25 years. I would continue to use her again.

    I went for an annual exam. I had a nurse practitioner perform the exam (Stephanie Donohue) and she was great! I ended up needing to change my prescription and this was easy to do. You're able to send messages online with an account and they are prompt about responding to them. Great service!

    The office looks like something out of a horror movie, everything is old and dusty.  They overbook patients in an obvious attempt to put profits over patient care.  When you finally see the doctor (usually over an hour after your scheduled appointment time) he is so rushed by the plethora of patients still awaiting him that he doesn't pay as much attention as he should to your issue.  Dr. Stoopack himself is rather  courteous, however I would rather have a rude doctor that showed an interest in my problem.  Most of the nurses are incredibly rude, although one of them whos name is escaping me is actually rather polite.  I have visited this office over 3 times and each time I waited over an hour to see the doctor for less than 5 minutes (not an exaggeration).  I will be looking for a new G.I. and so should you.

    Dr. Paka was recommended to me for prenatal care by my primary care doctor and by a good friend who's been going to her for 10 years. Unfortunately, I'm not impressed. Maybe I'm spoiled by my primary care doctor's office (One Medical Group), but unfortunately, I'm disappointed: there doesn't seem to be much support or guidance or information volunteered unless I push for it. There's no communication among the front desk staff, nurses, and midwives/doctor. I try to mostly see Dr. Paka instead of the midwives, and in general she's friendly and encouraging, but she usually doesn't offer much context or explanation beyond the basic updates unless I press for it. I understand they see hundreds of expectant mothers, so this is all routine for them, but I guess I need a bit more hand-holding since this is my first pregnancy.

    The office is still on paper records. I asked for a copy of my records, and it's going to take 7-10 business days, which seems archaic. They don't call with any test results unless, supposedly, there is something wrong. So you just have to trust that no news is good news, which isn't always easy to do when the practice overall doesn't inspire confidence.

    Abby at the front desk is very helpful. Among the nurses and midwives, Giady and Sabeen are great. But Amber (a nurse) has bad bedside manner. Carol somehow doesn't seem as patient-oriented as I would expect a midwife to be. At my last appointment, I mentioned to Carol that I had some pain that I was concerned about, that it might be related to lifting some heavy objects a few days prior. She just said to be less vigorous with my activity, but she didn't ask any other questions - was I having bleeding, what kind of pain - although she did listen to the fetal heartbeat and said everything seemed fine. I had to ask about the blood test results from my last visit, testing for Down syndrome markers. She said everything was fine, then quickly read off some numbers about my statistical risk, without much context about what the numbers mean. When I asked whether the test had also screened for spina bifida, she said no, when in fact it had, as I found out later from Sabeen.

    Then I asked about having a newer blood test done, one which also screens for Downs and other trisomies, since I am 37 and technically of advanced maternal age. She said, no, we wouldn't do that because all the other tests have been negative. I said I was still considering it since it's non-invasive, for my own peace of mind. She said she didn't know if my insurance would cover it since there were no other factors present and I was hitting the end of the testing window, especially if I decided to terminate the pregnancy based on the test results (I was taken aback by the last part - that's jumping way ahead of things). I asked if I found out that my insurance would cover it, would they do the test at this office. She said yes, but she did not present any information in a way that would help me make a decision for myself; it felt more like a decision being made for me. Luckily, I connected with Sabeen a few days later, who called the insurance company for me, determined coverage, and then also took the time to review my whole chart with me when I went back in.

    I don't intend to sound mean by mentioning individuals by name. I just know that if I was researching providers for prenatal care, I would want detailed, specific information.
