Countertop Installation reviews in Jersey City

    HW Construction
We recently moved into a new apartment in Jersey City and hired HW Construction to help. We do need the work done urgently and the workers finished the entire process within one week, which was ahead of the schedule. The entire process was smooth and the workers showed professionalism. The price was also reasonable without extra charge for the requirement of the time-length of the project. We do recommend HW Construction for people who are looking for similar services.

    Best Carpenters
We had a very bad experience with the $45,000 remodeling of our kitchen by Best Carpenters. In addition to the very poor workmanship, their installation has cost us thousands of dollars to repair afterwards. Issues include highly damaging water leaks, electrical, sheetrock, cabinet installation and appliance installation (see the attached pictures). Best Carpenters project manager was rarely on site to oversee the work and was not responsive to calls. Water Damages from Best Carpenters Work: When installing the sheetrock in the new kitchen wall in October, 2017, Best Carpenters drilled a hole through the water pipes which then leaked to the three floors below destroying closets, walls and ceilings, as well as causing major mildew issues behind the walls. Repairs for all three floors cost thousands to repair and as of 2019 Best Carpenters has not yet paid for any of the damages they caused. Electrical: Best Carpenters had electrical wires sticking straight out of the newly installed wall without a wall outlet to connect to stove hood fan, dishwasher and refrigerator. This is potentially dangerous and, to our understanding, does not meet electrical code. Half of all electrical outlets and light switches were installed crooked and too deeply into the wall by Best Carpenters - failed 1st city inspection. One newly installed electrical outlet by Best Carpenters has stopped working. Outdoor water faucet installed 3 inches directly above an outdoor electrical outlet by Best Carpenters - water dripping onto the electrical outlet below can result in electrocution. Wall sheetrock and tile installation: The pictures attached show just a few examples from only two walls. One can see the poor quality of Best Carpenters workmanship with sheetrock installation and spackling. The kitchen countertop backsplash tile was bulging and crooked as the new wall was installed crooked by Best Carpenters. Appliance installation: The dishwasher was installed crooked by Best Carpenters. Installers did not know that all dishwashers have adjustable legs to ensure that a dishwasher is installed level. They piled up wood planks and sticks underneath the dishwasher to balance the dishwasher instead and still failed to balance it. Best Carpenters finished the sheetrock wall above the stove fan but forgot to install the fan ducting. The entire wall had to be torn out again.

HHI was unbelievable. They redid my kitchen and living room. Total gut of the kitchen, took down 2 walls, recessed lighting, crown molding, baseboard molding, redid hardwood floor, installed a chandelier. So professional and great to work with. The end product was just beyond what I could have hoped for. Such attention to detail and real craftsmen. Plus, they specialize in working in city environments which is more complicated than the suburbs. They do it all and take the stress out! Joe and his group are a class act! Would absolutely recommend!

Sean and his crew renovated my condo after a flood damage in early January. This is our first remodel project and prior to working with a contractor, we've heard pretty negative stories about GCs in general. And to our surprise, Sean was the exact opposite of what we've heard. Communication - I would rate myself as a very responsive person and because the remodel happened after a flood damage, I was quite in an urgent situation and was eager to get the project finished. Sean communicated with us in a very timely manner and on many occasions, live - as they perform a specific task within the unit. He responds to my texts throughout the night on matters and feedbacks I provided (re: inspection at end of day on a daily basis). Project timeline - we finished the entire project (lighting, kitchen, drywall repair, painting, floor installation, room re-arrangement, door/trim, baseboards, everything but tiles in the bathroom) within 5 weeks (which was my target). While there are glitches during the project, Sean was very honest and frank about the project and always communicated about the progress and delays if any. He arranged the day-to-day work appropriately so it uses the best of his crews' time and meet our deadline at the same time. Quality of Work - i can't complain about the integrity that goes to the work. Sean will be sure to modify and change anything that I expect, and if he doesn't, he would make sure he explains it so I can accept the reasons behind them. That's very important to me as a client. Even after the project ended, when we saw the need for minor fixes after we moved back in, Sean stopped by on several occasions to fix those things. Pricing - Sean's quote was very reasonable and he provided an extremely detailed breakdown of the costs (materials and labor). We know what we are getting, and it was this level of transparency that ultimately led us to hire him for the job. During the project, he provided receipts and if there are any incremental costs not foreseen before, he'd communicate that prior to purchasing. In the end, we spent maybe just a little over $1k more than the quote (which is VERY GOOD) compared to many stories I've heard. He even assisted in providing information to my insurance company for the claim, and was very happy to do it. Overall, I think he's professional and certainly added an extremely positive reputation to his industry. I would certainly work with him again in the future and have already recommended him to several neighbors.

The job was handled professionally from start to finish. Joe was often on site, and his foreman Emil was equally skilled and responsive. They kept me informed every step of the way. We had weekly conference calls to review the next steps. I was regularly asked for feedback on how they were doing. The job went surprisingly smoothly and was completed ahead of schedule.

    American Stone
Steve/American Stone are true professionals who will work hard to make sure you are 100% satisfied with the work.  We went to so many disappointing yards and shady fabricators before finally landing on the goldmine that is American Stone.  It is full of incredible remnants at fantastic prices.  Out of all the yards we visited, his was by far the biggest with the best colors.
After we picked out the slab, Steve came by personally to measure the space.  It was fabricated the next day and installed the day after.  The turnaround was incredibly fast at no cost to the craftsmanship.  Most importantly, the countertop is STUNNING.  Words cannot describe it... you have to see it in person.  Steve had a great eye for placing the designs just right for the countertop and backsplash.  He was also incredibly communicative and accommodating throughout the whole process.  There was a misunderstanding about the type of faucet (4 in vs 8 in) we had and Steve took it upon himself to reimburse us for the difference when we had to buy new faucets.  We had some trouble installing the faucets because of our sink's very thick flange.  Steve called on his men to come the next day to drill the faucet holes more so we could install the faucets at no cost to us.  Steve and all of his employees were courteous and professional at every step of the process.  I could not recommend them more highly and will definitely be returning to American Stone for all my future stone needs!

BCG Marble and Granite Fabricators Inc.
Working with BCG and Amildo was a pleasure! I am a fairly detailed buyer and usually have lots of questions regarding pricing and otherwise, Amildo was patient with me and answered all my questions. I was originally considering going with another provider (also from Angie's List) but that company / contact was rude, and short with me when I had questions. So BCG may have been slightly more expensive, but I believe the best value considering workmanship and quality of the representatives. I would definitely refer and use again in the future.
All interactions were professional including, when I originally went to their location (Amildo even stayed late on a Saturday)  to show me stone options, when the template was taken at my home and when it was installed a week later. The window still was add on work roughly a week later, but Amildo and BCG turned around the window still in a few days... great job!

Mr. Handyman of S. Orange/Westfield/Scotch Plains & Metuchen
Overall, I was very pleased with the job.  Greg was my technician and he was polite and professional.  He worked diligently and quickly to install my new sink vanity and mirror.  He didn't really take any breaks which I was surprised about.  This was my first time using Mr. Handyman.  I didn't feel comfortable with their pricing model at first as their pricing is based on number of hours rather than a set price range to complete a job.  They had given me a quote of the estimated time necessary to complete the job and Greg completed the job within this time range.  I liked that I didn't have to sign a contract or put down a deposit beforehand.  I spoke to another handyman who wanted me to sign a contract and put down a large deposit before they did the work. The process with Mr. Handyman seemed much easier as Greg showed up and completed the job.

    Kitchen Tune-Up
I do not live in Charleston full time so the scheduling of estimates and subsequent work was a bit of a dance, but Jesse and his crew were accommodating and worked within my time frames.  I was originally just looking for a basic re-face of the older cabinets but Jesse came up with some great ideas to move a few things, create more space and go with a two tone cabinet look that I would never have thought of.  So I ended up doing more than I had planned, but they never pushed to sell more, just offered ideas and gave me plenty of time to think about it.

Mike was the head of the crew and he was awesome - so I would ask for him in a heartbeat.  Everyone he had working on the job was very nice and very trustworthy - I had no problem giving them a key and letting them come and go as needed if I was gone for most of the day.

The job was not without a few bumps in the road - no one should ever do a job like this and not expect something to crop up  - and I certainly harassed Jesse about some final details.  But he took care of all of them and the finished product is pretty great.

I would highly recommend Kitchen Tune-up.

My wife and I (expecting our first child) bought our first house in Ridgewood, NJ.  The most important thing for us is that we were going to be an hour away from Ridgewood while this work was getting done, so we really needed someone reliable and self-sufficient.  We interviewed maybe 12-15 contractors before choosing Galarza Builders to renovate our kitchen, bathroom and half-bath.
We were extremely pleased with their work, professionalism and responsiveness.  Our arrangement was that we would choose and buy the items and they would do the work.  Vic was very detailed about everything we needed to choose up-front and what to look for/not to look for.  Vic picked up the big items (tub/toilet/etc) for me from the store as long as I paid for them first.  I felt Vic and his brother Steve went above and beyond what they had to do for us because if we couldn't make it up to Ridgewood, they would even swing by the house to make sure large items like our bathroom vanity were delivered properly. (Not saying they would do this for everybody just that they really accommodated our situation).  They also offered to do other little things for us (like hooking up our new dryer/washing machine) if it was a quick thing.
Vic and Steve were also very quick with their work.  I felt they were pretty much waiting on us to choose/buy things otherwise they might have been done with things faster.  For example our bathroom still isn't finished because we needed to send our vanity back and get another one so they will come back and finish it up for us when the vanity gets here.  They were also very trustworthy.  They did what they said they would even though we weren't going to be around to check up on their work.  We stopped in a few times unexpectedly and everything was being done just like we discussed (even completely sealing other rooms in the house so no dust would get into them - which I assume they could have taken shortcuts with if they wanted to).  This was without doubt my biggest concern about getting work done on our new house.
We're extremely happy to have developed a relationship with Galarza Builders because we will have more projects in the next few years and I'm glad we've found somebody we can trust.  We thought their prices were fair (they weren't the cheapest but definitely weren't expensive either).  I'd highly recommend them.
I realized after writing this that I left out specifics of the jobs - the bathroom was full gut-and-reno, including taking down plaster walls, replacing it with mold-resistant dry-wall and a new frosted-glass window, doing plumbing, leveling the floor of our old house, doing tiling, etc.  Everything except electrical which they were more than willing to work with my father-in-law, an electrician by trade.  For the kitchen, they replaced one plaster wall which needed to be re-insulated, and put together all of our cabinets with crown molding.  They also did a bunch of trim work on our doors around the house.  For the half bath, they tiled the floor and replaced the toilet and pedestal sink.
