Window Replacement reviews in Jamesburg

  • Making an appointment was easy, and the sales rep, Ken, arrived on time. Ken was very nice and not at all pushy, which is rare in the window industry. Definite plus there. I chose to check out this company because of research online about non metal spacers being important and because they were local. The windows looked really good on paper—steel reinforced and insulated sashes, automatic locks, etc. and they had a long warranty with included labor. Hopefully I don’t ever have to use that, but it was nice to know they backed their product so much. The warranty was what pushed me over the edge compared to a lower quote from another local company that offered non metal spacers. I Signed the contract, had the measuring guy come out and scheduled an install date 4 weeks out from the measure (longer than the 2 weeks quoted by the sales rep, but hey maybe it’s the busy season in November). I get a call 15 minutes before they were supposed to arrive for the install (time frame was 8-10, they called me at 9:45am) that they had gotten into an accident and can’t come out. I had already taken all the window treatments down and moved furniture for the install. This included little kids bedrooms that faced the street. I was upset, but hey, accidents happen... I call the office at 10:15am and no one knew there was an accident and they can’t even reschedule until the next day because the scheduling manager is at a job. No one has a calendar to even give me an idea of a date? Is it one day or two weeks? Should I put my blinds back up? Getting more annoyed here... The receptionist calls the next day around noon and she tells me one week. No asking me what day works, just, “we will come on this date.” Another week?! I expect to be pushed to the front of the queue since it isn’t my fault I had to reschedule and they try to finish each job in one day, so I got bumped behind 4 other people? How many crews do they have?? I’m even more annoyed. I gently push by asking if that’s the earliest they have (it is) so I just accept it. I don’t want to be one of those entitled jerks, but give me some information here, tell me what’s going on so I’m not in the dark and just being tossed around! I had to call the office and tell them the crew got into an accident? I have to wait a day to find out when I can be rescheduled? What if I wasn’t available the day they set it to? They’d have to call the manager again and call me another day later?? Anyway, one week later, the crew shows up and look at the windows and tells me they can’t install them today because they don’t have a ladder tall enough. What?!? I pointed out the third story windows to the sales rep and the measuring guy. They both assured me they have ladders than can reach them—“they install windows everyday!” The crew leaves with my windows. It’s now been 6 weeks since I put a deposit down and I have to wait another ??Day??Week??Month?!? until they will try again. Again I have to call them and again they tell me they will come in a yet another week for them to get two crews in. So I wait another week (moving furniture and reinstalling the kids’ blinds yet again) and when they show up, I’m biting my nails hoping they can actually do it. They come and they can! They get to work quickly and bang it out until it’s dark out. The guys seem to know what they’re doing and I leave them to it (I had to shuffle a toddler around while they worked. It was maybe 30 degrees Fahrenheit out, so quite cold with windows missing). ...when they were packing up, I noticed one screen had a hole in it and they replaced it no problem, but I was annoyed that I had to point it out. But there were 4 guys and it’s possible to miss it, so I pass that over. They did a decent job cleaning up and showed me how to use them, and they left. I later found a water bottle of acetone in the kids room (very dangerous!), and they left handprints on the outside of the third story picture window (I can’t clean a window that doesn’t open from the inside!), but other than that, the windows look great. I haven’t used them much until now since it’s been so cold, but they do seem a bit stiff/heavy to lift (double hinge). Maybe it’ll ease up after a few uses, so we shall see in the spring! Overall, I liked them and their product so I used them again (we have many windows and decided to replace them in groups because it’s expensive! Also, if I really hated them (like I hated the guys who replaced our sliding doors), I was willing to switch companies. The second time they came, the time from deposit to install was about ten days. That’s right. Ten days. I guess November/December/January is the busy time after all?? (I assumed it would be spring). The same crew came out and got everything done in a day. They cleaned the picture window as best they could, but left multiple caulk marks on our carpet—which again was discovered after they left. I guess they didn’t notice that either? These little things make me worry about what other little things they may have missed with the installation, but it’s been 1 and 2 months since the two groups of windows have been installed and it’s noticeably warmer in the house. No more drafts or leaks (we had a major leak in two windows), and I compared the thermal images of our old vs new windows and it’s much better insulated (we have a little Flir thermal imaging camera). The windows look good! Overall, I’m happy with the product and would probably use them again. Job 1: 12 triple pane double hungs, 7,200 Job 2: 16 triple pane double hungs, 9,400

  • The sales rep, Phil, came out on time and was very upfront and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed speaking to him—he seemed to really know the ins and outs of the product without trying to throw terminology at me to intimidate or dazzle me. He seemed to sincerely like the windows his company offered, but was not at all pushy about it. Truly refreshing. He even showed me the app he had that allowed him to plug in the window type and dimensions and the showed the pricing. He did his best to help me decide on what windows to get (switching to a slider vs. two double hungs) and inform me along the way. Ultimately, we went with a different company for our immediate needs since my husband slightly preferred the other company’s product over jantek’s, but we plan on using them for some other windows that don’t need to be replaced right away (picture windows in front of the house) since their pricing is better. If their installers are as professional and knowledgeable as their sales rep, Phil, we will be very happy!

  • The workmen were OUTSTANDING! The were EXTREMELY professional and at the same time, friendly and approachable. They answered all of our questions without hesitation and when an issue occurred (wrong window sent), they quickly identified the problem and alerted us to it. They were very careful to protect our home from damage and cleaned-up after themselves exceptionally. Can't say enough about our installation team.

  • First I would like to say it was a pleasure working with the RBA from start to finish on our window project. The GD CREW (Jimmy, Hairo, and Beni) where Outstanding!!!! They arrived during then scheduled time frame. Came in introduced themselves in a very professional manner. Started covering then floor and what ever needed to be covered and explained how the work flow would proceed. They were very professional and well oiled team and had time to answer any questions as to what needed to be done. When job was completed in an exceptional manner, they cleaned up the areas they had work in and did a very nice job. Jimmy explained all then warranty and completed all the paper work in a very professional manner. The GD CREW, I would highly recommend them for any job and would ask they come back if we have a future job. From 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, I give them a 20. Thanks for a great job.

  • It went well from beginning to end. Mindy who runs the office scheduled the appointment with Doug who was out a day later. He explained our options and took the measurements. 2 weeks later Kelly headed the team that installed the new door. Looks great and unlike my old builders door, this one is fully insulated. Everyone I dealt with at Universal provided first class professional service.

  • This was a big job that lasted about 4 months and the work was exceptional; better than I expected.  They always cleanup the job site at the end of each day.  The owner and his foreman always stayed in contact with me to insure we were all on the same page.  The quality of the work is an A++++

You can always contact me directly, James Casarella at 732-737-1514, if anyone want to discuss.

  • Great! The two installers worked diligently to get the doors in place. You can tell that they have been working together for years.  The owner, Ron is very polite and did a nice job setting it up for us.

  • This company is a major headache. After a 3 plus month delay and after I tried to cancel the order ,which their GM Robert Maffei refused to do, they found my windows in their warehouse and that they were siting there for months. And the door and storm door was damaged and never sent back. Only after a F rating did their GM finally gave some service because he want the F rating removed. which I did. However, 5 months later, the lack of quality are showing through. The locks on the  10 foot slider window are flimsy and can be put out to a degree. In effect they don't offer any security. The windows can be lifted out of the track and removed because there are no security piece on the windows to inhibit this. The locks don not put the windows tight. The 9 foot slider patio door lock does not pull the door tight when locked and You can pull the door back a quarter inch and at that point the there is wind leakage. Also you can lift this door up and out due to no surety bar at top of door. The insulated front door has a mail slot, which is mandated by the community I live in, however there is light and cold seeping in, I have to put a foam block to keep the light and cold out and I had to stuff foam into the deadbolt slot to stop air leakage due to lack of insulation when the door was put in. I have reported this to the company's warranty people last week but never got a call back. Their salesman never has a sample of the product to show you only pictures and it cost me 8100 to find out why. Also the salesman promised me a security plate for the front door. But that wasn't put in writing because it was explained to me that is was part of the door installation.  Use a local contractor and avoid these people. They smile and promise the world but leave you hanging. I have other windows to replace and I will be going to local contract and as maintenance director of over 150 homes I now show them the castle products in my home and point out the deficiencies and they can from there.
Here is an update. A sales rep called to sell me more windows. When I told him the issues I was having all he could do was giggle, like it was a joke. Until I told him I was writing to his boss and that as maint. Director of my community all his contracts had to come through me.. Stay away from this company.

  • James came to give an estimate in early December 2014 and I was happy with it.   The windows were custom so they had to be ordered.  When they came in, we had to wait until the weather got a little warmer to install them.  They were installed this week (mid-March) and I am thrilled!

There were 2 installers and they completed the job in 2 days.  They installed 8 new windows with outside frame wrapping, and also wrapped 7 older windows.  They put down tarps to protect my floors and also covered all of my furniture with plastic.  The quality of their work was excellent.

l wouldn't hesitate to recommend their work. This is the second time I've used Lawrenceville Home Improvement and I was very happy the first time too.

  • Ryan came out to my house and gave me an estimate for 12 replacement vinyl windows. It was a fair price, but I wanted another price. I contacted one of the big box stores who gave me the same price because they were having a sale. the big box salesmen stated they used all subcontractors and did not have their own crews. Markey had their own crews. Markey installs OKNA windows and after much research found them to be one of the best. The crew came out in the beginning of December 2014 on a misty day and finished in one day. Our house is a 1,700 sq.ft. ranch and our gas bill for January was $ 95. Markey was fast, very clean, left no mess. We intend to purchase an OKNA patio door in the spring
